21.01.2022 **THANKYOU'S!!** What a great party!! Saturday evening was by far my most satisfying moment of this art journey, and there are so many people to thank for such ...a memorable experience. First, the OTTO's. Barry, Sue and @gracieotto for having faith in me to put on a good show, and helping organise from start to finish. So kind and generous with their time, such a smoothe process. A pleasure getting to know your beautiful family. @jesscarrera for her amazing, continuing efforts in exposure, getting sponsors (@hawkesbrewingco & @taylorswines) and marketing, giving Belle Epoque by far the greatest reach and recognition we have ever had. And we would still be that place no one had heard of if not for you! Thankyou! The Reynolds family; Nadia, Lara & John (@garden.love.flowers & @eyes_of_a_gypsy) for your unbelievable spread and floral display. The food was to die for and so well prepared & served. And the gallery has never smelt better with all the fresh flowers! Thankyou! The amazing @annamurakawa.violin and @anniekmcgee for their beautiful, eclectic setlist & setting the vibe & background to such a great evening. So much amazing feedback from the public of just how classy & professional you presented. Thankyou! All the helpers who did not stop the whole night. Milly, Holly, Sean, the list goes on. Thankyou! Our stellar photographers, Josh @finesilvermedia and William Yang. I was SO busy throughout the evening, so your photos have been a comfort experiencing the evening I really was too overwhelmed to soak in at the time! Thankyou! The other artists who kindly offered pieces for the Exhibition; Michaela Krzyszton @m.l.k.d.e.s.i.g.n.s, @lanathymian & Jan Shaw. Your phenomenal works really lifted the space!! Thankyou! @elizabethfortescue & The Daily Telegraph, Zoe Porter & @iconic_and_vintage , & @filmink Being a small, young gallery in the Inner West, it has been so hard getting recognition & building an audience. We gallerists are a dying breed & you have helped us see hope for longevity!! Thankyou! And Mum & Dad. For your love and everything!! Everyone who came, you really made my year, truly. Much love!! 20.01.2022 Two very special visitors today!!

19.01.2022 Thank you so much for the great feedback on last week's videos, the first of our series on our most interesting works at Belle Epoque!! I really appreciate your... support, It is incredibly humbling!! I hope you all learned something, or I inspired further reading... . Here's a fresh one... Number 3. Let me know what you think!! Any suggestions, comments, or requests appreciated also!! . The glorious, original mixed media "Study For A Bird's Nest (Baudelaire's Bird)" (1973) by iconic Australian artist, Brett Whiteley AO (1939-1992). . This work has been in a private collection for 30 years, and we are very lucky to offer it at our upcoming Sydney Fair Showcase at Royal Randwick Racecourse in late November... Save the date!! . Whiteley is represented in the collections of all the large Australian galleries, and was twice winner of the Archibald, Wynne & Sulman Prizes. He held many exhibitions, and lived and painted in Australia as well as Italy, England, Fiji and the United States. He tragically died prematurely of a drug overdose at the height of his popularity... . His final studio in Surry Hills was converted into a gallery by the Art Gallery Of NSW and the Brett Whiteley Travelling Scholarship named in his honour. He is the highest valued and sought after Australian artist, and currently holds the record for the second, third and forth most expensive Australian paintings ever sold!! . This impressive, original mixed media study is extremely RARE!! It was part of a series of Bird studies based on the work of French poet, Charles Baudelaire, including "Baudelaire's Bird" (1973) & Butcher Bird With Baudelaire's Eyes" (1972). They were completed around the time he constructed his epic, self-portrait "Alchemy" (1972-73). . "David, Genius, is really knowing which remark it is that convinces another person that one is in possession of genius. That's all, in other words genius is the most sensitive of human discovered conventions" . The inscription is directed at his infamous friend and philosophical sparring partner, David Litvinoff... . belleepoqueantiques.com See more

18.01.2022 **BELLE EPOQUE COLLECTION #1** . Please let me know what you think?? If you like, I'll make more!! I've had quite a few people ask me for more interesting con...tent, so I've decided to make a little video series on 'The Belle Epoque Collection" highlighting our most fascinating pieces. The classical "Die Musik" (c.1900) by prominent German artist, and favourite painter of Adolf Hitler, Friedrich August von Kaulbach (1850-1920) He was a portraitist and historical painter; son of Theodor Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Kaulbach (18221903), the court painter at Hannover, and the great nephew of Wilhelm Kaulbach, another prominent member of the Kaulbach family of artists. He learned to paint from his father, and later was a student of August von Kreling at the Kunstgewerbeschule Nürnberg (Nuremberg school of arts and crafts), a predecessor institution of the Academy of Fine Arts, Nuremberg under influential German painter, Franz Von Stuck. He is famous for his decorative and enthusiastic portraits of predominantly feminine society in the French style of the 19th century. His portraits were mostly commissioned works, the portrayed almost exclusively members of the highest German and American social circles. He was a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin and director of the Munich Academy. However, he is perhaps best known for the fact he was one of Hitler's favourite painters. In fact, his epic masterpiece "Triumph Of Music" was the pride of the Third Reich Chancellery dining room, and Hitler requested to face the painting during every meal. It was destroyed when the Führerbunker was bombed during WWII. This impressive, historically important study I discovered last year was likely a draft for his masterpiece, as few paintings exist of Kaulbach's work on the theme of music!! belleepoqueantiques.com

18.01.2022 Hi everyone!! Here is the latest edition of my video series, "Belle Epoque Collection", episode #4 - Gustave Doré & Vincent Van Gogh... . Let me know what you ...think!?! . And thanks so much for the support, I have been overwhelmed with kindness... Thankyou!! <3 . Gustave Doré (1832-1883) was a famous 19th century French artist, printmaker, illustrator and sculptor. Doré worked primarily with wood engraving, and was well known for illustrating several important national publications, including the Bible. . The artwork available is a detailed ink and chalk sketch of Covent Garden, completed during his important trip to London in 1871. This particular illustration was the basis of a series of wood engravings for Blanchard Jerrolds London, A Pilgrimage (1872), a publication that would serve as the central inspiration for a young Vincent Van Gogh. . If you can afford it if I can, Ill do it too subscribe to this years Katholieke Illustratie, which has Dorés prints of London the wharves on the Thames, Westminster, Whitechapel, the Underground railway (Vincent in a letter to brother Theo, 13 Jan 1877) . The other day I saw the whole of Dorés work on London I say, thats splendidly beautiful and noble in sentiment for example in the room in the night refuge for beggars, which you have, I believe, and otherwise can still get. (Vincent in a letter to Anthon Van Rappard, 19 Sep 1882) . The artwork is RARE. It is on brown paper (common medium for Dore sketches), which has darkened with age. It is hand-signed by the artist and has been professionally framed in a custom gilt, gallery frame, with custom plaque. Also included is a copy of an early auction catalogue from the estate of the original owner, a famous Australian art collector. . belleepoqueantiques.com See more

15.01.2022 **BELLE EPOQUE COLLECTION #2** Welcome to the 2nd edition of our Video Series of "Belle Epoque Collection"... Let me know what you think?? . The original, archi...tectural, geometric "Temple" (1964) by Pop Art Icon, Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997). . During the 1960s, along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and James Rosenquist among others, he became a leading figure in the new art movement. His work defined the premise of pop art through parody. Inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein produced precise compositions that documented while they parodied, often in a tongue-in-cheek manner. . His work was influenced by popular advertising and the comic book style. He described pop art as "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting". His paintings were exhibited at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City. . This unique original invitation/lithograph for Lichtenstein's "Landscapes" exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery, NYC in 1964 is Herman More's (Curator of the Whitney Gallery, NYC) personal invitation. It bears the original horizontal and vertical fold crease. . It is a UNIQUE, one-of-a-kind piece and historically significant in linking one of America's greatest 20th century artists to one of America's most important Modern Art institutions, the Whitney Gallery, NYC. . A hugely influential, recognisable piece of the 20th century, is one of three original, limited edition lithographs we have in the Belle Epoque Collection. This work will be available at our upcoming"Sydney Fair" Showcase at Royal Randwick Racecourse in late November... We have an unbelievable lineup of artists we will be offering!! "The Camel Ride" (1964) by important Indian Abstract Expressionist, Shanti Dave (1931-). . Generally considered one of India's greatest 20th century artists, he was a member of the influential Lalit Kala Akademi and the Sahitya Kala Parishad, and was awarded the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri by the Indian Government. He exhibited worldwide and his works are represented in major public and private collections worldwide!! See more

13.01.2022 Its hard for actors to work as much as they would like to, so painting for me was a way of having a creative outlet in the periods between jobs. It kept me ...sane. We got some wise words from Barry Otto, along with his daughters Miranda and Gracie, about the Australian icon, who currently has an exhibition of his art at Belle Epoque Fine Art & Antiques in Sydney.

12.01.2022 This Saturday, May 5, at 4-7pm is the official opening of our "Royalty" exhibition at Belle Epoque. We have over 100 original, eclectic works available by some of the greatest British artists spanning 3 centuries to present day in celebration of the upcoming Royal Wedding. 256 Stanmore Road, Petersham. 10.01.2022 **BELLE EPOQUE COLLECTION #9** . An artist so infamous, TIM BURTON made a film about her?? . Check out the latest edition of the Belle Epoque Collection... Feat...uring the Queen Of Kitsch!! . The impressive "Japanese Princess" (c.1977) by famous American Kitsch artist and pop culture icon, Margaret D. H. Keane (1927-) . Keane is known for her paintings of subjects with big eyes. She mainly paints women, children, or animals in oil or mixed media. While the work achieved commercial success through inexpensive reproductions on prints, plates, and cups, it has been critically dismissed as kitsch. . The work was originally attributed to Keane's husband, Walter Keane. After their divorce in the 1960s, Margaret soon claimed credit, which was established after an in-court "paint-off" in Hawaii. . A resurgence of interest in Margaret Keane's work followed the release of Tim Burton's 2014 biopic 'Big Eyes'. She maintains a gallery in San Francisco which boasts "the largest collection of Margaret Keane's art in the entire world!! . belleepoqueantiques.com See more

10.01.2022 **OTTO: An Artist's Life** . Jan 19 - Feb 23, 2020 . The life's work of legendary Australian actor and thespian, Barry Otto (1941-).... . "My career is in acting, but I'm also a professional artist" . Barry has enjoyed a career in film and television spanning over half a century. For the older generation, he has been a household name and Star of Australian Theatre. For the younger generation, apart from being father to renowned actors and director, Miranda and Gracie, he is best known for his award winning roles in Australian Film, including Strictly Ballroom, Cosi, Australia, The Dressmaker, Great Gatsby, and my favourite, as the eccentric advertising executive, Harry Joy in the Australian cult classic, Bliss. . However, Otto's passion is painting. Since the age of 14, he immersed himself in art and making art, with influences such as Lord Frederic Leighton, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Pierre Auguste Renoir. . A multiple entrant and subject of the Archibald Prize over many years, this year Barry was the focus of Contemporary & Street Artist Anthony Lister's Doug Moran Prize Portrait, which was a finalist. . From January 19 - February 23, we are lucky to be hosting Barry's first solo exhibition in almost 9 years, "OTTO: An Artist's Life", a collection of original paintings and drawings spanning his lifetime; works up until recently he never thought of parting with... . 02.01.2022 **BELLE EPOQUE COLLECTION #6** . The latest in our video series features one of the most controversial figures in art history!! Let me know what you think?? . ...The RARE "Children Blowing Bubbles" (c.1940) by prominent Dutch painter and accidental National hero, Han van Meegeren (1889-1947) . Van Meegeren was a Dutch painter and portraitist and is considered to be one of the most ingenious art forgers of the 20th century. Despite his life of crime, Van Meegeren became a national hero after World War II when it was revealed that he had sold forged art to Hermann Göring during the Nazi Occupation of the Netherlands. . During World War II, wealthy Dutchmen wanted to prevent a sellout of Dutch art to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, and they avidly bought van Meegeren's forgeries, thinking them the work of the masters. Following the war, the forgery was discovered in Göring's possession, and Van Meegeren was arrested on 29 May 1945 as a collaborator, as officials believed that he had sold real Dutch cultural property to the Nazis. He was convicted on falsification and fraud charges on 12 November 1947, after a brief but highly publicized trial, and was sentenced to a modest punishment of one year in prison. . Van Meegeren was so famous, his own original works we widely forged. Children Blowing Bubbles is an original Van Meegeren painting, rather than one of his more famous forgeries!! See more
