25.01.2022 I know that youve heard this before but we need to keep it up front.. Just in case......
25.01.2022 A brief look at approaching hoops in Association Croquet, focusing on the importance of playing a flat mallet croquet stroke in different areas around the hoop. Another video from Wilson/Fletcher Croquet.
24.01.2022 This weekend the Western Skin Institute held their Christmas party at Belmont CC. It turned out to be a fun family event. The weather was kind and the afternoon went very well. Our members who were helping out, were given especially made cookies by WSI organiser Victoria, who also left product samples for club members to try.. A fun afternoon with fun people, so Western Skin Institute, you are welcome at Belmont anytime. Must mention the wonderful helpers without whom these events couldn't take place. Cherry & Kevin Bluff, Denise & Ken Deller, Jane & Wolfgang Klemenz, Mike McKenzie, Kate & Ian Petersen, Colin Scott and Ray & Dianne Wilson and of course our master of ceremonies Stephen Forster, thank you all.
24.01.2022 Another beautiful winters morning at Belmont and almost a capacity crowd. Nineteen members arrived, so gradually our GC social day numbers are returning to normal for winter. Hopefully the next set of regulations will see the allowable number of players go up to at least 30 which will cover the members who only play Golf Croquet. Thanks again to Ken Deller who sets up the 3 lawns and packs away and sanitizes the equipment at the end of play.
23.01.2022 A few words of wisdom. Everyone is a gem. Especially one for the road.
22.01.2022 Jane was intending to go one better this year. I have no doubt that she would have gone close. Next year, now Jane.
22.01.2022 New Year’s Day and 14 members were ready to start their GC Croquet year off today in bright sunshine and with a warm breeze. GC Captain Jane presented our inaugural monthly ‘Most Hoops’ trophy to Margo Paton, who won with 129 hoops. Congratulations Margo. Everyone was very happy to welcome in 2021, even though it’s ‘Masks on‘ again in the clubroom for the time being.
22.01.2022 AN EXPLANATION OF THE VOTING SYSTEM THAT WILL BE USED AT THE VCA AGM HELD TOMORROW 17th AUGUST BY VIDEO LINK. by JIM SAUNDERS Several enquiries have been received as to the format and operation of the electoral process to be utilised at the VCA AGM on Monday, 17 August, 2020.... As a voting delegate at the meeting and having attended a briefing session, the following is my understanding of what shall take place. The meeting will be held by video link with various members and observers in attendance. Voting will be restricted to one delegate from each of the 13 VCA Regions. The names of the delegates must be notified to the VCA Secretary no later than 48 hours before the meeting. Positions for the Committee of Management and their nominees are in alphabetical order: Vice President Stephen Forster, Kate Patrick Treasurer Claire Keating Secretary Sarina Cevaal-Hewitt Committee David Johnston, Janet Leckie-Brunton, Lyndsay Nelson, Kate Patrick. For Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary one is to be elected. Three are to be elected for the Committee. Voting will be by secret ballot. When that commences the voting delegates will be separated from other attendees. Ballot papers will be electronically distributed, returned to the scrutineer and results announced progressively. Successful candidates must gain a majority of the votes cast by delegates present and voting to be elected. Where there is only one candidate for one position the candidate must still gain a majority of the delegates present and voting to be elected. Depending on the outcome of the election for Vice President there will be three or four candidates for the Committee. In the event of a tie there may be another ballot to determine the successful candidate. If still unresolved the Chairman may use a casting vote. See more
22.01.2022 We can’t play croquet yet but we can go shopping in Geelong Free parking in the Geelong CBD Free casual on-street parking in central Geelong will run until 31 December 2020.... Time limits will still be in place to encourage turnover in these parking spaces and ensure convenient access by shoppers and visitors to central Geelong. This will make it easier for people to park in central Geelong to access essential services.
21.01.2022 Pleasing to see 13 members at Belmont yesterday, despite an unpleasant forecast. Everyone is used to social distancing now and the morning went well. So if you are thinking of returning to croquet, we are well prepared according to DHHS regulations. Looking forward to seeing you again! Dont forget to bring a thermos, kitchens arent opened yet.
20.01.2022 GRAFFITI! Something that every club dreads. Last week we had several areas scrawled on, but thanks to our wonderful City of Greater Geelong Council, the graffiti was gone within a couple of hours of reporting it. We might not have won the flag, but we are on a winner with our council maintenance dept.
20.01.2022 Came across this photo on the weekend in amongst the Croquet Vic photos. The well dressed young man on the left represented Australia along with Edward Wilson from South Australia in New Zealand a few years ago. Guess who? Nice photo of them both.
20.01.2022 Full house at Belmont today. Surprising, considering the drizzling rain but everyone is keen to start playing again. Dont forget to book before you come along, restrictions are still on. Soon to be members Brenda & Jim Jackson are enjoying their games and learning very quickly.
20.01.2022 Great results for GCA AC at Portland CC tournament Congratulations to all of our Belmont players. Well done!
20.01.2022 Everything is ready for a very busy few weeks. The lawns look great and the gardens are in bloom.
19.01.2022 What a wonderful surprise for Carol!
19.01.2022 Ken & Carol take a break while the other games are finishing. Since we started back, we dont stop for morning tea. Social distancing makes it awkward indoors, so members decided to play on.....Carol took advantage of an early finish to check her messages. It will be a joy to be able to sit and chat one day the way we used to at morning tea.
19.01.2022 Drysdale Croquet Club long term member, Edna Peel has taken a very heavy fall at home and is at present recuperating in the Alan David Lodge, Torquay Road, Charlemont. A genuinely lovely lady, Im sure that she would appreciate a get well card from her croquet friends who may have lost touch over the years. Here is Edna on the left with her great friend Wilma Bath.
19.01.2022 BELMONT CROQUET CLUB is proud to be able to say that we are not in that 65%. Our members have been very supportive of their club and President Jim Saunders and the committee are very grateful to each and every member. Your committee is making plans for the future including applying for grants for an upgrade to the kitchen. ... Watch out for updates. See more
18.01.2022 Our Christmas party wasn’t catered for as in previous years, but the BYO food didn‘t stop the enjoyment of the day. We played lots of games with lots of prizes. A ‘Hum this Song’ game proved that very few of us can hum. Denise’s quiz sheets had most of us bamboozled. Especially the cryptic one. Ray won the best dressed again and Ken and Robert were given a bottle of wine each in appreciation of the things they do for the club. All in all a very pleasant Christmas party on a beautiful summer’s day. Thanks Anne and Denise.
18.01.2022 Where have we heard these words before? Coaches, partners, opposition! Thanks Denise Deller, definitely relevant.
17.01.2022 Clever little video showing COVID-19 transmission from a person to surrounds and back to people. Thanks Pene Robertson Prunell.
17.01.2022 To all Belmont members Please be aware that as of 5:00pm Thursday December 31 the wearing of a face mask is mandatory within all Council owned facilities. This is in line with State Government directions issued today in response to the re-emergence of the virus within the Victorian community. So it’s MASKS ON in our clubroom.
17.01.2022 Cherry thought that masks might lead to a guess who and she was so right. Belmont today. GUESS WHO?
17.01.2022 The eighth time!........ Making history Stephen! The Victorian AC Champion
16.01.2022 From 11:59pm on 31 May Up to 20 people can participate in outdoor group sport and exercise activities, provided you can keep your distance (at least 1.5 metres apart) and they are not competitive. Will we be following these new guidelines if DHHS brings it in on the 1st of June?
15.01.2022 Early morning Jumps practise. Nearest camera, Judy, Margot and Jane. Jane is left handed but she switched for the photo.
15.01.2022 Jim makes jumping look easy and Joan looks suitably impressed.
14.01.2022 We’re almost back to croquet! Our much revered ‘Keeper of the croquet lawns’ will be getting everything ready. Hope he’s in a good mood!
14.01.2022 Not much about croquet at the moment, but our Mr Fixit has been busy. Two sets of Childrens picnic mallets were donated, so Robert has made a stand to hold the mallets, balls, centre pegs and hoops. Dont they look great. Now all we need are some kids! Maybe a Grandparents day, something to plan for in the future. Thanks Robert.
14.01.2022 When everyone returns to croquet, will we be seeing some new hats? These were from last year.
13.01.2022 Just in case Belmont has to use a Video platform for General Meetings in the future..Be Prepared!
13.01.2022 Paddy Chapman has composed a new website for AC enthusiasts which is well worth visiting even if you are a GC player. Take a look at and follow the link https://croquetdev.com/ Thank you Paddy.
12.01.2022 Another great croquet video from Wilson/Fletcher Croquet. Pivot Balls
12.01.2022 A beautiful morning with the dew still on the grass, brought our members out to practice.
11.01.2022 Australia Day 2021. The day started off with pouring rain and dark skies, but 17 brave souls arrived at Belmont determined to have some fun and we did. We had a ‘Best Plate’ and a ‘Best Dressed’ and spot prizes of Skin Care and Freddo Frogs. Lots of laughter, excellent ’best plates’ to have at morning tea and Freddos to snack on.... All in all a very good Australia Day for us. See more
11.01.2022 Happy Birthday to Belmont CC player Paula Hollier.
11.01.2022 Some people made the most of their time away from croquet. Ray Ogle never wastes his time. Look at this little croquet trophy he made..plus his mask. Clever man our Ray!
11.01.2022 Introducing our new members Louise & Bob Plowman. Louise & Bob are from Lakes Entrance and are looking forward to meeting our members. Welcome to you both! Hopefully the number of members we can have on the courts will increase soon and we can get to know each other.
10.01.2022 Tuesday saw a full house at Belmont croquet today. We also welcomed Reg & Margo Paton to the club. The greens had a mind of their own, so did the hoops in a lot of games.. Lots of muttering went on. Still, the sun was warm when it came out and we dont know if we will go into lockdown soon...So we play while we may.
10.01.2022 The Geelong Croquet Association has nominated Belmonts Stephen Forster for the position of Vice President on the Victorian Croquet Associations Committee of Management. Belmont members wish Stephen the very best of luck in this all important, upcoming election to be held at the Croquet Victoria 2020 AGM on the 17th August.
10.01.2022 Belmonts youngest member Jacob Ballis is turning 14 tomorrow. Seems like yesterday that his grandmother Shirley Kelly introduced him to croquet and Stephen Forster showed him how to hold a mallet. Happy Birthday Jake!
10.01.2022 Anne Worland has asked to see our members in masks....a bit kinky maybe, but it will give us a task that will also give us a giggle no doubt. Post your mask photos on here. Dont be shy, no one will recognise you. In these pics, the person with the grey mask wanted to wear the bejewelled mask. Time he started playing croquet again. Any of our croquet friends are welcome to post here as well, remember we wont know who you are unless you tell us.
09.01.2022 Opening Day 2019. Ian Petersen runs the hoop. Who could have guessed what was coming!
09.01.2022 They weren’t dressed quite like this, but Mike McKenzie and Ray Wilson carried in the trestle tables kindly donated to the club by President Jim Saunders and his wife Val. With all the functions coming up the gift is certainly appreciated by the club. Thanks Val and Jim. Thanks also to Mike for transporting the tables.
09.01.2022 Come back Carol, you have had enough time off. Your mallet will go rusty, your fluffy jacket will moult!
09.01.2022 Remember Dennis was working on a mystery project during lock down. Well here is the finished object. A buddy to play croquet with. He started life as a hot water heater. Very clever Dennis.

07.01.2022 Anna Miller has decided to free up her time to pursue other interests. We cant let her disappear from the croquet world without a celebration of her contributions and achievements. Anna has been a valued member of Belmont Croquet Club for more than a decade now. We know that before that she played for many years in Horsham and was well known on the tournament circuit before she retired to Torquay and joined us. We were somewhat awe-struck when we first saw that beautiful,... seemingly effortless swing. Anna quickly reassured us. She joined in with normal club play, mixed quietly with everybody and soon became an integral part of the club. Anna started as an association croquet player but developed a liking for golf croquet as well. There were several years when Anna was selected to be part of the Victorian State Team in both codes one could only admire her stamina (and skill). Anna was Vice-Captain of the Vic AC team in 2013-14 and of the Vic GC team in 2015-16. On the world stage Anna played for Australia in the Inaugural World Womens AC Championships in Melbourne 2009-10, then again in Nottingham in 2015. She also played in Cairo for the Over 50 GC World Championships 2010-11. Closer to home, Anna could always be relied upon to be part of the Belmont Pennant Teams and often represented Geelong against friendly enemy Ballarat in our annual challenge matches. Anna has been a Committee Member, AC Club Captain and Vice-President of Belmont. She has also been on selection panels for the VCA and even Australian Croquet Association Vice-President. Anna has quietly lobbied to improve the game for all. Whether it be, competition standard balls for all games at our club, equal tournament opportunities for GC and AC codes, Australia-wide, or balancing opportunities for women. She has also contributed greatly as a referee for both codes. She conducted several referee training programs for Geelong, in both AC & GC. Her most recent croquet undertaking was as Venue Referee at Belmont for the AC World Championships in February 2020. We will all miss you Anna Miller. We have loved your style, your wisdom and most of all your company. Cherry Bluff. Belmont CC.
06.01.2022 Proactive Health and Movement came to Belmont on Saturday for their Christmas party. The theme was ‘2020’ and we had a famous Richmond ’bad boy’ footballer, ‘Zoom’, ‘Toilet Paper’ and everyone’s favourite ‘Double Donuts’ amongst others. Stephen Forster was organising the croquet games and they all got into the fun very quickly. A great group to host, Proactive Health and Movement are welcome at Belmont anytime.
06.01.2022 This hat is what the fashionable croquet player/referee will be wearing this summer. Doesn’t Belmont’s Reg Paton look smart. Groovy baby!
06.01.2022 At last, we can use our kitchen again. Anne takes down the sign while Denise makes a cuppa with a real cup.
06.01.2022 A little light reading for Association players and those who are interested in the rules. https://www.worldcroquet.org//Laws%207th%20Edition%20WCF%2
06.01.2022 Belmont CC members started playing croquet again today. 10 players at each session taking care to comply with all the protocols necessary to keep us all healthy.
05.01.2022 Nice medal around your neck Mike. Congratulations. Victorian GC H/C Champion.
05.01.2022 Here is our Kerri-Ann Organ winning the ACA Womens’ Championship. Congratulations Kerri-Ann from all your friends at Belmont. Congrats also to Rosie Landrebe who was runner up.
05.01.2022 When we had the first lot of restrictions in March, by the time we went back to croquet, I had forgotten how to jump. More restrictions so Ive probably forgotten again...this video from Murray Tinker, will jog my memory I hope.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5kvRDXgGrk
04.01.2022 Masks, Sanitising, Social distancing are all in a day’s play at Belmont. We would wear suits of armour as long as we can play.
04.01.2022 Carol will be discarding her fluffy jacket soon and taking up her croquet mallet again. We met her on her morning walk.
03.01.2022 A croquet-related meeting. Taking a pleasant morning walk (naturally wearing my prescribed mask) I came upon these three (2 humans; one cat) taking the fresh air in a very pleasant garden. (Posted by an anonymous photographer.)
02.01.2022 Belmont’s Reg Paton set the hoops and refereed the ‘Challenge’ games at Belmont today. Thanks Reg!
