25.01.2022 I felt the Earth move, under my feet. Reports coming in from all around the state of people feeling the earthquake, including in Geelong. Early indications show a magnitude 6.0 earthquake centered in the Mansfield / Licola / Woods Point area, north east of Melbourne. At this stage it appears there has been no reports of damage in the local area.... If your need emergency assistance call the State Emergency Service on 132 500, or Emergency 000 if the situation is life threatening. If you felt the tremor, please go to https://earthquakes.ga.gov.au and complete a Felt Report.

22.01.2022 Earlier this afternoon, Wednesday September 2nd, Belmont Tanker and crew responded to support Fire Rescue Victoria from Station 64 (Belmont) to a truck rollover on the Geelong Ring Road at Waurn Ponds. Crews arrived onscene and found a truck had hit the median dividing wall and jack-knifed, ending up on its side which resulted in a large diesel spill from the damaged fuel tank. FRV and CFA crews, as well as other Emergency Services and the EPA, remained onscene for close to 4... hours until the truck was righted by Heavy Haulage to be towed, and the spill was cleaned up. The Geelong Ring Road northbound is expected to remain closed late into Wednesday evening, with diversions in place. #weworkasone CFA (Country Fire Authority)

22.01.2022 The most common cause of harvester fires is material collecting on hot engine components There are several ways you can prevent harvester fires on your prope...rty. Some of our top tips include: Postponing paddock work during the highest fire-risk periods Run regular maintenance checks on farm machinery Monitor weather conditions throughout the day and stop operations if it changes Remember to always ensure you have appropriate firefighting equipment in place. You are required by law to have a nine-litre water-pressured extinguisher on hand

21.01.2022 CFA was humbled to receive millions of dollars in donations over the 2019/20 fire season. The support shown for our volunteers was overwhelming and we are plea...sed to announce how we are distributing $20.5m. Highlights include millions of dollars for brigade equipment, a new leadership and development program for volunteers, ten mobile community education vans and mobile tablets for online volunteer learning and training. Donations given to specific brigades are also being spent on ultralight tankers, field command vehicles and other items needed to support our brigades. To everyone who contributed: we cannot thank you enough. Read the full story: https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/-/cfa-rolls-out-20.5-million-in

21.01.2022 In recent months we have seen an increase in house fires in CFA areas and sadly across the state, six lives have been lost. CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria are asking all Victorians to know their risks and be prepared when it comes to fire safety around the home.

21.01.2022 Stage 3 Restrictions will once again apply to all of Regional Victoria which includes Geelong from 11:59pm Wednesday 5th August 2020. Also dont forget you require a face mask after 11:59pm Tonight Sunday 2nd August 2020

20.01.2022 Next Wednesday July the 1st 2020 is set to be a historical date for Victoria's Fire Services. The State of Victoria will see an amalgamation of all Officers, Firefighters and employees of the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) and all Career Officers, Firefighters and some other paid employees of the Country Fire Authority (CFA). The new organisation will be known as Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). All current CFA Volunteers will remain with the CFA which will revert to b...eing a volunteer fire service. Currently the Belmont Fire Brigade is an Integrated Fire Station within the CFA, this meaning the station is staffed 24/7 with a complement of a minimum of 4 on duty career firefighters, supplemented by a group of volunteer firefighters who respond to emergencies from wherever they might be when a call is received, whether that be from home, at work or out shopping. The career firefighters respond to the majority of calls the Brigade receives, whether it is to calls in the Brigades own response area covering Belmont, Grovedale, Waurn Ponds and parts of Highton, or responding to assist neighbouring brigades like Grovedale, Highton, Geelong City, Torquay, Anglesea, Barrabool and others. FRV Fire Stations have beeen allocated a number to identify them and from July 1 any reference to FRV from the Belmont site will refer to "Station 64" and the Pumper (Urban Fire Truck) will be known as "Pumper 64". The CFA volunteers will continue to operate as the Belmont Fire Brigade and utilise the CFA appliances, the Belmont Tanker and community funded Belmont FCV. Both Career Firefighters and CFA Volunteers will continue to serve the community from the current station located in Reynolds Road. The Belmont Fire Brigade is proud to have a strong relationship with all our Firefighters. We all work closely and have done since the career firefighters were first posted to the Belmont Brigade back in 1989 after being relocated from the Geelong West Brigade. Regardless whether we are paid or unpaid, volunteer or career, CFA or FRV, the service to the community is our highest priority and we will continue to provide the community with the service you have grown to know and rely on in your time of need. Whether that be a response to a house fire, bush fire, motor vehicle accident, hazardous materials incident or an Emergency Medical Response alongside Ambulance Victoria, the firefighters at the Belmont CFA and FRV Station 64 will be here for the community when called upon. The Belmont CFA looks forward to continuing our service as a volunteer organisation, while working along side our colleagues in the newly formed Fire Rescue Victoria.

19.01.2022 Today, we reflect on the events of this time twelve years ago when 173 people tragically lost their lives in the 2009 fires. As our communities have forever changed, the loss will never be forgotten nor will the bravery of our firefighters.

19.01.2022 Robin Parsons AFSM Recipient I know you would all like to join with me in passing on our congratulations to Robin Parsons from Belmont Fire Brigade and to let ...him know how proud we all are of his achievement in becoming an Australian Fire Service Medal recipient. Robin has been with the CFA for more than 57 years which is a fantastic service history, he joined the CFA as a volunteer Reserve member at Geelong in 1962 and become an active firefighter in 1963. Robin noted that when he volunteered, he was under some excellent mentors and as he gained experience, he tried to model himself after them. Quite ironic given that Robin himself has been a mentor to many. In 1973 Robin joined the career staff as a firefighter at Geelong City and climbed the ranks to serve as a Station Officer across a number of brigades, before he eventually took up a position as Senior Instructor and Operations Officer at Fiskville. Robin has distinguished himself as an eminent source of information relating to the practices of the Australasian Inter-Service Incident Management System (AIIMS) and the implementation of the Incident Control System (ICS). He has gained the experience of participating as a senior member of Incident Management Teams (IMTs) during campaign fires and emergency incidents across Australia. He has been described as going above and beyond to mentor personnel in the AIMS system, regularly delivering training and sharing his experience. Upon Robin’s retirement as a Career Officer in 2012, he has remained with the CFA, re-joining the Belmont Fire Brigade as a volunteer member and remains in an operational support role. Robin has previously been awarded a National Medal, Outstanding Service Medal and was named a CFA Life Member. From all of us in SWR we would all like to say well done Robin, you’re an inspiration to many and an absolute gentleman to all. Rohan Luke Deputy Chief Officer Regional Director South West Region

17.01.2022 CFA Brigades in Geelong and surrounds have already, or soon will, commence the important Pre-Summer training and skills maintenance drills. As emergency services, all CFA Brigades have been granted permission to commence this mandatory training, which will be conducted under strict COVID compliant guidelines. These restrictions include being COVID Safe at each session, which means everything is cleaned and sanitized before and after each session, the training is done in sma...ll groups of less than 10 members present at a time, and the correct PPE/PPC, including masks, are worn at all times. Many Brigades have not physically trained for many months now, and this training is vital to CFA Brigades preparedness for the Summer period.

17.01.2022 With Summer and the Fire Danger Period just around the corner, and the days getting warmer, CFA members have been preparing and are ready. Question is, are you? How well do you know fire? www.vic.gov.au/how-well-do-you-know-fire

17.01.2022 As the state’s south west continues to experience an increased tourist population this holiday period, firefighters are urging travellers and communities not to... become complacent around fire. The region’s Fire Danger Rating will move to High with some warmer weather expected at the weekend from Friday, 8 January through to Sunday, 10 January. CFA South West Deputy Chief Officer (DCO) Rohan Luke reminded members of the community to remain vigilant despite recent rain and cooler weather. Recent rainfall has led to increased fuel loads and as the warm weather starts to take effect, these grasslands will quickly begin to dry out and pose a high fire risk if one were to ignite, he said. There are still a lot of tourists and school holiday travellers across the south west region and we are reminding them to take extreme care around campfires, barbecues and other fire-related activities. People should also be aware of their surroundings, especially as they travel to unfamiliar locations during the summer holiday period. Now is not the time to become complacent around fire. 14.01.2022 A nice day has turned wild and windy. Reports of power outages in Grovedale and trees down across Geelong. Remember to away from fallen powerlines. For SES assistance please call 132 500. For life threatening emergencies please call 000. Stay safe.

13.01.2022 Belmont Tanker responded to this fire as part of the Geelong Strike Team.

13.01.2022 The Belmont Brigade attended this incident on Torquay Rd Grovedale earlier today, along with other emergency services. Powerlines were thankfully not involved, with the local internet providers lines being damaged. What made the tasks of emergency services difficult was the large amount of public and onlookers at or nearby to the scene. The best option is to wait until it is safe to go and have a look, or better yet, JUST DONT GO NEAR IT.... Our crews and other Emergency Services are there to provide rapid response to isolate the scene and make incidents safe before they become a larger problem. Popping past for a quick look or to take a photo to post on one of the many Facebook Information pages increases traffic in the area as well as more bystanders to ensure are out of the danger area, which makes doing our job even more of a hazard. What we don't want to see is you getting yourself involved, getting injured, creating another accident from rubber necking, putting your safety and the safety of others at risk and diverting resources away from the initial incident. Our job is to keep the community safe, so please, if you are not involved .....STAY SAFE and STAY AWAY!

13.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of #FireActionWeek2020. From today until Sunday, CFA and our emergency services colleagues are focussing on getting Victorians better ...prepared for fire season. So we are asking everyone, what are you doing to prepare? Start now by: Preparing your property and clean up green waste and debris Make a bushfire plan for yourself and your loved ones Keeping an eye out for our Fire Safety Essentials workshops in the coming weeks

13.01.2022 Early this morning, Belmont, Highton and Geelong West CFA crews assisted the South Barwon SES and other SES units with impact assessments in the Waurn Ponds and Mt Duneed area, after a storm rolled through the area causing extensive damage. The SES have received more than 170 calls for assistance for this area, with work still continuing into this evening.

The system, used by Victoria’s emergency services, sends text messa...ges to mobile phones and pre-recorded voice messages to landlines with advice about emergencies. The upgrade allows emergency services to send longer text messages, providing more details to help keep you informed and safe.

13.01.2022 This is not the news we wish to be posting but it is with great sadness that the Belmont Fire Brigade advises of the passing of Brigade and CFA Life Member John 'Jack' Curtis. John joined the Belmont Brigade in February of 1946, and served as Captain, Lieutenant, Secretary, Brigade Chair as well a Firefighter in his 74 years of service. John was awarded many awards and recognition over these years, including a Brigade Life Membership in 1969, CFA Life Membership in 1991, th...e National Medal in 1986 and First Bar in 2011, the Outstanding Service Badge in 2007, the VFBV Gold Star and was the first Belmont Member to be awarded a 50 Year Service Medal in 1997. John will leave a lasting legacy at the Brigade, with the CFA Brigade Tanker, and the Brigade Member of the Year award, being named in his honour. He was well respected by everyone at Belmont and other Brigades, and his presence and contribution to the Brigade will be truly missed by all who knew and served with John. A private funeral and burial service will be held for John later today. The Brigade will look to hold a memorial service with the family after COVID restrictions have been eased. Further details of this will be advised. Vale John Curtis. See more

12.01.2022 Our brigades are a part of our communities, and as first responders they see the heartbreak and trauma caused by road crashes. Last Labour Day Long weekend, our... brigades responded to more motor vehicle crashes than any other incident. Please drive safely this weekend, for your sake and ours.

12.01.2022 Today CFA brigades were called to a number of out-of-control burn-offs If you're using the great weather to clean-up your property for fire season, make sure ...you conduct your burn-off safely. A burn-off, if not extinguished properly can re-ignite days after the original burn. Keep your burn-off safe and legal: Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn on 1800 668 511 Check and monitor weather conditions particularly wind To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand Leave a three metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading Never leave a burn-off unattended stay for its entire duration If your burn-off gets out of control, call ‘000’ immediately

12.01.2022 19 years ago, on September 11th 2001, 343 Firefighters of the FDNY, 23 Officers of the NYPD, 37 Officers of the PAPD and 8 Paramedics made the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade Centre in New York. Today, we honour and remember them. We also remember 2,977 innocent people who died on that day, as well as the many emergency service workers that aided the rescue and recovery efforts in the following weeks and months after, who have subsequently died from 9/11 related illnesses. May they Rest In Peace.

08.01.2022 On this day 38 years ago Victoria and South Australia experienced what was to be known as the Ash Wednesday bushfires. Our drought stricken landscape combined w...ith ferocious winds, fanned the fires that swept across the state and devastated many communities. Tragically, 75 lives were lost including 14 CFA and three SA Country Fire Service volunteer firefighters. 07.01.2022 A busy afternoon yesterday for the Belmont Brigade, not even 24 hours since the introduction of the Fire Danger Period. First at around 1620 Belmont Tanker responded along with crews from CFA Highton, Grovedale and Barrabool, and FRV crews from Belmont Station 64 and Geelong Station 63 to bring a grass fire in Wandana Heights quickly under control. Then at 1830, the Tanker was responded as part of a Strike Team, along with Corio, Geelong City, Geelong West, Grovedale and Highton crews to the grass fire at Mt Cottrell. After assisting with blacking out in some very rock filled paddocks, the Tankers and crews returned late last night.

07.01.2022 These photos were taken only moments apart at a grassfire on Simpson Rd Ardmona late last month. Grassfires can start and spread quickly and are extremely dange...rous. They can travel up to 25 km/h. Are you prepared for grassfires this summer? When it is safe to do so, slash or mow to reduce long dry grass around your home Make sure if you have plans to travel over the festive season, be aware of grassfires download the Vic Emergency app and know weather conditions ahead of setting off. 07.01.2022 We know there are many CFA families whose dads often give up time with their loved ones to support their communities. Each and every day we are so thankful for ...our hardworking volunteers, and today we would like to wish all of the dads in CFA and our wider communities a very happy Father's Day We'd love to hear from all those who have dads in the CFA in the comments below Pictured: two generations of the Hardacre Family from Ruby Fire Brigade

07.01.2022 Today we remember the brave people who sacrificed their lives serving for our country. We also pay our respects to those who continue to serve our communities to this day. Lest we forget.

06.01.2022 A timely reminder of what to do in case of a fire or emergency. - Write or type out your fire escape plan and practice it with all the people you live with. - Dial Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.... - Get everyone out of the house as quickly as possible. - Wait in a safe place for firefighters to arrive and never go back inside for any reason.

06.01.2022 The Belmont Fire Brigade would like to congratulate one of our own distinguished and long serving members who has been awarded the Australian Fire Services Medal (AFSM) in recognition of his outstanding service to the community in the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, which was announced today. Congratulations to Mr Robin Parsons from all Officers and Members of the Belmont Fire Brigade. Robin has served the Belmont Brigade over many years, being a former career officer, and is still a current volunteer member of the Brigade, which has included serving as the Brigades First Lieutenant recently as well. https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/-/geelong-based-firey-receives-

05.01.2022 The Belmont Fire Brigade, like all CFA Brigades, are comprised of volunteer members, and while the CFA does provide the majority of fire fighting equipment required, the Brigade is always seeking funds to increase our capabilities and equipment. A great example of that is the Forward Command Vehicle, or FCV, the Brigade currently has. This was fully funded by the Brigade with funds raised and donated locally from the community and local businesses. During the 2019/2020 Summe...r period, the community generously provided funds to the CFA via the Donations Trust Fund, this has allowed a number of Brigades across Victoria the ability to obtain one or several items. Belmont was successful in obtaining a defibrillator, as pictured, and a reversing camera for the Brigades Tanker. But there is always something else that the Brigade is looking to acquire or upgrade. The CFA Brigade Donations Trust Fund now has the capability to accept Credit Card donations via the link below, and it also has the ability to nominate which Brigade to donate to should you wish to do so. If you would like to make a donation to the Belmont CFA, nominate Belmont as the Brigade when making a donation. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/about/supporting-cfa

04.01.2022 Today we mark one year since the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months. Today we reflect on the devastation and challenges that followed 21 November and the incredible support from all emergency services who came together to aid the communities impacted by the unprecedented fire season. 02.01.2022 During and following the 2019/20 fire season, $25 million was donated to CFA. $4.8 million of these donations were allocated to one of CFA’s four programs to di...stribute donations a tools and equipment ‘District Pick List’. The 11,000 items distributed to 95% of CFA’s 1200 brigades from this list will help us protect our communities across the state. To everyone who donated to CFA thank you.

02.01.2022 This New Year's Eve, don't let your celebrations put your community at risk. With many official displays now cancelled, we urge you to avoid the dangers of illegal fireworks. Don't ruin the party by letting your fireworks become a grassfire.

01.01.2022 This morning after some decent rainfalls overnight, the Belmont Ambulance Victoria Station carpark was turned into a backyard water feature. With some assistance from the on duty crew utilising the Belmont Tankers draughting capabilities, the excess water was successfully relocated. Thanks to Glenn H for the video.
