23.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be... NAIDOC Week 2020 was celebrated with a whole school assembly yesterday that included a special video presentation, Aboriginal dance and an acknowledgement to talented Didge player Jake Siegwalt, for his contribution to our school Aboriginal Education Program. Jake is leaving us to commence employment as an apprentice chef, and we wish him all the best for a happy and successful future. This special assembly was then followed by a morning tea for our Aboriginal students with some delicious treats prepared and served by our senior Hospitality students. Our school Executive staff also held their weekly meeting in the Yarning Circle later in the day. Special thanks to all who contributed to this special acknowledgement and celebration of NAIDOC Week 2020 at Belmont High School.

23.01.2022 The staff of Belmont High would like to acknowledge the wonderful efforts of these young men and women from the University of Newcastle who completed their internship with us today. Thank you to our supervising teachers for sharing your expert knowledge and guiding these students during their time at BHS.

22.01.2022 Earlier this week Year 12 Biology students traveled to the USW Museum of Disease in Sydney to study Infectious and Non-infectious diseases. Students learned about lifestyle diseases caused by too much alcohol, saturated fats and exercise, and also observed the diseased body parts of people who had many different types of diseases. Students then worked through a series of activities to support their understanding of the Infectious and Non-infectious Disease component of the HSC syllabus. Thank you to Mrs Hobbs and Mr Wrightson for organising such an interesting and engaging excursion for all who attended.

11.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM LAKE MACQUARIE POLICE As we approach school holidays, it is particularly important to remind parents of the critical need to know where and what your children are up to at all times. Over recent months, Lake Macquarie Police have experienced a dramatic rise in young people being left unsupervised in and around major shopping precincts and surrounding youth hang-out areas. As a result, police have been addressing a spike in anti-social behaviour and criminal act...ivity within these groups of youths. Police are also observing large groups behaving in ‘peer pressure’ scenarios, encouraging criminal and anti-social behaviour, which puts all persons present in danger. Assaults, offensive behaviour, and property damage are criminal offences that place all young people at risk either by perpetrating or by falling victim too. Police with local stakeholders continue to implement a variety of strategies to reduce violence, crime and fear in this space, however we are urging parents this summer to assist where they can know where your love ones are, where they plan to go and who they are with.
