22.01.2022 Our little Simba’s love to garden. As soon as they go outdoors, they grab the watering cans and ask for water. They carry their own watering cans to the garden and water the plants. They have been loving our herbs and like to explore them with their senses. At little Simba’s we allow the children to be active learners. According to developmental theory children are active learners and they must be given opportunities to explore, discover and experiment.

13.01.2022 Many times, we hear parents being concerned about their childs sleeping routine. And when they start going to childcare they may not have as much sleep during the day as they do at home. Main reason is, they need to adjust to a new environment just like if they were in a new home. As parents, it is natural to be asking yourself: is my child getting enough sleep? ... Well, to this question we can tell you that every child is different. But generally, a good indicator is that, if your child is happy, then he is probably getting enough sleep. As your child is growing, their sleeping needs will change as well. Here is a quick guideline from the website http://www.raisingchildren.net.au : -Babies (from 6 months old) sleep around 14 hours per day. They still have about 1-2 hours nap during the day. -Toddlers sleep around 12-13 hours per day and still have about 1-2 hours nap during the day. -Pre-schooler (aged 3-5 years old) need around 11-13 hours sleep during the night and some would still have a nap during the day. If you are concerned or want to find out more about your childs sleep needs, we encourage you to go to http://www.raisingchildren.net.au You will find great advice and articles to help you understand how sleep is important for your childs health and wellbeing. We hope this will help our parents and community and remember, we are here to help so talk to your educators or to your centre manager if you need any help.

12.01.2022 Here is an example of a fine motor skills activity our educators set up in the baby room. For this activity the educators placed on a table A4 and shredded papers. Then, the educators placed some glue on the A4 and the children were encouraged to stick the shredded paper onto A4 paper. Our Little Simbas had a great time when they realised the paper was sticking to their fingers. They were seen trying to remove papers by shaking and tapping their little hands.... During this activity, the children were exposed to play with easy to find materials, such as shredded papers. This type of activity allowed children to extend their play because the generic objects (here shredded papers) could be used as multiple things. Fine motor skills activities are important for your children. They help them achieve important tasks like feeding themselves, grasping toys, zipping or buttoning up clothes, writing, drawing and more. Here is why at Little Lion our educators create everyday different fine motor skills activities! This is where their future starts.

11.01.2022 Last week the children all celebrated NAIDOC week. This is a very important time to celebrate and reflect on the achievements, culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our Simba cubs used colourful paper to make a rainbow serpent. Rainbow Serpent or Rainbow Snake is an immortal being and creating God in Aboriginal Mythology. It is also popular image in the art of Aboriginal Australia. It is in the shape of rainbow and a snake. This activity helps t...he children to explore Aboriginal culture and promote diversity in the classroom. Our Little Lions listened to story about an aboriginal girl called Mary and compared to the colours of skin and discussed the difference and similarities between them and her. Then they were introduced to aboriginal symbols and tried to draw them on the sand. They also made their own boomerang by using the dot painting techniques just like aboriginal art.

09.01.2022 Why caring for childrens teeth is important? Many babies begin teething at around 3 months old, with the first teeth usually appearing at around 6 to 9 months. By the age of 1, a baby will usually have around 8 teeth. However, babies develop at different rates, so this can vary. It is important to look after your childs teeth from the moment they start teething. Keeping your childs teeth and gums clean will protect against infection, cavities and pain. Decayed baby teeth ...can damage the permanent teeth underneath. 1. Brush your childs teeth twice a day, using small circular motions. Their teeth should be cleaned after eating and before bed using toothpaste with fluoride that is suitable for children. This can help to strengthen the outside of the teeth and prevent decay. Make sure they brush for at least 2 minutes and remind them not to swallow the toothpaste. 2. Help your child to brush their teeth from the time they get their first tooth until they are 7 or 8. After that, supervising them is still important. 3. Try to get into a regular tooth brushing routine, and give your child plenty of praise when they brush their teeth well. 4. Replace toothbrushes or toothbrush heads every 3 months. Children should floss as soon as they have 2 teeth that are in contact with each other. You should supervise flossing until they are about 10. 5. To develop strong teeth, make sure your child eats a healthy, balanced diet and avoids foods with a lot of added sugar, such as lollies, biscuits and soft drinks. Always choose fluoridated tap water. 01.01.2022 Hi everyone! This week we are talking about Dental Health Week (DHW): the Australian Dental Associations (ADA)s major annual oral health campaign. It takes place each year in the first full week of August and this year DHW will be August 3 9. ... This campaign aim to educate Australian families about the importance of maintaining good oral health by promoting four key messages: Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Clean between your teeth daily using floss or interdental brushes. Eat a healthy, balanced diet and limit sugar intake. Visit the dentist regularly for check-ups and preventive care. The focus of this years campaign is on the harm sugar does to oral health, aiming to help Australians to get sugar savvy. The campaign includes recommended daily sugar consumption levels, advice on reading food labels, and spells out the effect sugar has on our teeth. This information is reinforced with three main sugar messages: Consume no more than 6 teaspoons (24 grams) of free sugar per day as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Choose foods with less than 10 grams of sugar per 100 grams. Look out for hidden sugars when purchasing foods and drinks. The article in our newsletter this month is enlightening our families about How much sugar is hidden in their trolley. We strongly recommend our families to read that article and please stay connected as we will update you with activities done in our both centres this week. Have a lovely evening and see you tomorrow. http://www.ada.org.au/Dental-Health-Week-2020
