19.01.2022 Hi All, Benalla Saints have a team participating in the GV Football/Netball Movember challenge. After week 3 we were in position 3, great effort considering we were a week late starting! With one week to go we need to pull out all stops to win the challenge with 5 pretty ordinary MO’s. Most importantly all donations go to support men’s mental health and physical issues such as prostate cancer. All donations are greatly appreciated by the team. Representing Benalla Saints we h...ave Lloyd Johnson, Jake Pallpratt, Corry Westbury, Brody Webster & Cody Crawford well done for getting involved. Donations can be made to the team on the link below. Thank you to those you have donated so far. https://movember.com/t/benalla-saints-fnc?mc=1

17.01.2022 Presidents Update I hope everyone is as excited for Season 2021 as we are! We have all dealt with many uncertainties in the past 12 months but Community Sport is now back. It is going to be a challenging year with the many extra tasks that need to be completed to ensure as a club we are COVID compliant at training and on match days, but it will be worth it. The year off has hurt many clubs with participant numbers in both Netball & Football down on previous years.... We are still looking for players in certain grades of netball and football. Everyone is encouraged to get involved and assist in getting community sport back to the place it once was in regional towns. Volunteers I would like to take the opportunity to ask anyone wanting to get involved in our great club to please make contact. Volunteers are the lifeblood of community sports clubs and without them we simply cannot operate at the level we wish to. Football Update Our senior men’s squad had their first practice match yesterday against Wodonga Raiders. In pretty warm conditions it was evident everyone was very happy to be back on the park. Thanks to everyone who made the trip up to support the boys. This weekend we have our second and final pre season hit out against Wodonga Bulldogs at the Benalla Showgrounds, under 18’s commencing at 10am. Coffee, BBQ and Bar Open during the day, with the Lakeside bar open after the game. Our senior women’s team have played in a Round Robin pre season event with their season kicking off this coming Sunday at the Benalla Showgrounds. Entry to the women’s football is free so please get down and support the girls. Unfortunately we do not have a Youth Girls team this year due to the lack of numbers, hopefully back again next season. Netball Update Netball appears to be the hardest hit by the year off with limited numbers across all grades, the only exception is the under 15’s with strong numbers. At this stage B Res needs to pull a team together in the next week or the club will be forced to withdraw this grade which is certainly not the preferred option. If you want to get involved now is the chance, don’t wait until it is too late. This weekend we are still looking at the potential for a senior practice match against Wodonga Bulldogs. Memberships Our Memberships are now online @ Benalla Saints, link below. After having the year off we need people to get involved and purchase a membership to ensure the club can remain financially viable in this challenging times. The players will be conducting a Membership Drive on Tuesday the 23rd of March. https://www.benallasaints.com.au/copy-of-playing-membership

15.01.2022 Thanks for clicking on Terry's Big Bearded Ball Drop Facebook page! This campaign is inspired by Markwood resident Terry Greaves, 59, who in January 2020 was d...iagnosed with Metastatic Melanoma and without treatment was given six weeks to live. Terry was told that he had stage four cancer in most of his organs and bones. It wasn’t good news. The father of three commenced Immunotherapy treatment immediately, travelling regularly to both Melbourne and the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre. Recently Terry received the positive news that the treatment had been successful, increasing his life expectancy from six weeks to two to five years. A small working group of Terry’s family, including wife Heather and brother Paul, and friends, are organising this event. Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It affects us all. We all know someone who has been diagnosed. Being able to access treatment and support within the region is so important, and this is a way of supporting those services into the future. Terry is a familiar face in football circles across the region playing and coaching until age 47 with a long list of clubs including the Benalla Demons, Wangaratta Rovers Football & Netball Club, Benalla All Blacks FNC, Milawa, Moyhu, North Wangaratta, Goorambat and Violet Town. Terry’s Big Bearded Ball Drop will be held in November with members of the community urged to purchase online a $20 individually numbered ball which will be dropped from a helicopter towards a target. The closest ball to the target will win the grand prize. Interested ambassadors are urged to go to www.balldrop.com.au to learn more and register as an ambassador. To donate visit www.balldrop.com.au All money raised will go directly to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Inc. 13.01.2022 Hey Sport, R U OK? is a campaign to benefit all participants, officials, administrators and supporters across the grassroots sporting community. The initial fo...cus of the campaign is to empower coaches with resources and tips to help them build an R U OK? Culture to support their athletes and players. An R U OK? Culture is one built on mutual respect, trust, authenticity and a willingness to support those in your world who might be struggling. The campaign resources will help coaches spot the signs that someone might be struggling and provide tips to guide them on what to say and do in the event one of their athletes is not OK. 10.01.2022 Hi all, Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men's health, and this Movember, the GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League (GVL) is joining the fun. Movember sees men across Australia Grow a Mo to save a Bro. Supported by Mo Sisters, the fundraising effort over November helps raise vital funds mental health & suicide prevention, prostate cancer & testicular cancer. Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends are facing a health crisis, yet it’s rarely talked about. Men... are dying too young. We can’t afford to stay silent. 2020 has been a year of curveballs and challenges, and we’re still in the thick of it. Research conducted by Movember earlier this year showed some worrying signs around the state of men’s mental health. Many of the men in our lives are struggling with uncertainty, social isolation and anxiety about the future, and it’s starting to take its toll. Research by the men’s health charity showed 23% of men said their mental health had worsened in the first six weeks of the pandemic, with 30% noting increased feelings of loneliness Additionally, calls to Lifeline increased by 25% when physical distancing kicked in and in Victoria in particular, there has been an increase in self-harm indicators that may result in higher rates of suicide in the future. To help support this initiative the GVL Board are supporting a GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League Mo’ Premiership Cup Challenge. Board Chairman David Roff & Board Member Brett Stevens are leading the charge for the board and will be growing a Mo. We’re putting the challenge out to everyone at each of our member clubs, and across the community, to join us in the inaugural GOTAFE GVL Mo’ Premiership Cup Challenge. We are encouraging people to sign up as a Mo Bro or Mo Sister, join their team and help raise vital funds and awareness of mens’ health. Together we can make a difference for men's health in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. The inaugural GOTAFE GVL Mo Cup Premiership is going to be a fun way to raise awareness for a vital cause. It’s also a great way to get players, coaches, committee, trainers, volunteers and more involved. At the end of the month, the team that has raised the most funds will take out the inaugural GOTAFE GVL Premiership Mo Cup. Who will win the Mo’ Cup Premiership for Season 2020? Please donate and lets see if Saints can win this challenge! https://movember.com/t/benalla-saints-fnc?mc=1Bena

08.01.2022 G'Day All, Quick update for everyone prior to Saturday's "drop". Stage one of the lottery has been completed under the watchful eye of independent auditors Ald...ous & Hill, Benalla. Everyone who made a $20 donation, or purchased multiple tickets (balls), has gone into the first ball drop electronic lottery with 1500 lucky donors randomly selected. Those 1500 donors have now been allocated a unique numbered ball, or balls, for stage two of the lottery. This will involve 1500 balls being dropped from a helicopter at 1.30pm at the Benalla Showgrounds. The ball which lands closest to the target will win the $10,000 major prize. Emails are being sent to successful ticket holders with their unique ball number (s). Unsuccessful ticket holders who didn't make it through to the second stage of the lottery are also being informed by email. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our original plan of dropping 6000 balls from the helicopter and inviting a large crowd to attend the event, had to be revised. As a result, Saturday's event will occur without a crowd to ensure it complies with COVID-19 restrictions. However, the ball drop will be live-streamed on this page so everyone can watch from the comfort of their home. We would like to thank everyone who donated to our cause and helped raise more than $170,000 for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Inc. We could not have done this without you! To see if you were successful in gaining a ball, please click on the following link: https://d1kd509ja4tmjb.cloudfront.net/9b056786929f18c93ae05
