22.01.2022 Hear from our curator, Emma Busowsky Cox as she talks about this year's Paul Guest Prize and highlights the 42 finalists. The Paul Guest Prize is an award and exhibition held every two years that highlights contemporary drawing practice in Australia. At this stage, the exhibition will be online only due to the COVID-19 restriction. The Prize was initiated by former Family Court Judge and Olympic rower, The Honourable Paul Guest OAM QC and encourages artists from across Aust...ralia to engage with the important medium of drawing in contemporary art practice. The Prize is a non-acquisitive cash award of $15,000, judging and winner announcement will occur when our pandemic restrictions allow. And this year we are also putting it to the people in launching a People’s Choice Award for the public’s favourite work. Votes can be cast here: http://bit.ly/PaulGuestPeoplesChoice More information on the Paul Guest Prize: http://bit.ly/PaulGuest2020

15.01.2022 One of the many beautiful garments showcased in our latest exhibition, Piinpi: Contemporary Indigenous Fashion. Designed by Lyn-Al Young Gunnai/Wiradjuri/Gunditjmara/Yorta Yorta, born 1995 ... Ngoorntook (winter) 2020 silk, diamante In this garment, we see Young’s distinctive design approach through the direct application of paint to fabric. Connecting to her Ancestors through ancient mark-making techniques, Young experiments with ideas of materiality and construction to connect her work to her saltwater Country. Draped across the front of the garment is diamante mesh, used to symbolise ‘fishnets’ for hunting and catching bush foods. Visually the garment emulates the colours of the sea; shades of blue, white and black are fused, creating movement and imitating the rippling effects of crashing waves across the ocean. The exhibition is now open until 17 January 2021. It is a free exhibition. Due to limited visitor capacity, please register your attendance to avoid disappointment. You can register on our website at https://bit.ly/Piinpi Image by Leon Schoots.

12.01.2022 Piinpi, an Indigenous word commonly used across regions of East Coast Cape York Peninsula, refers to Indigenous ‘seasonal changes’ and the regeneration of Country. This free exhibition is now open until 17 January. Registration is essential. Find out more about the exhibition now at https://bit.ly/Piinpi
