21.01.2022 This morning I got up before dawn and rode my motorcycle to a vantage point where I could watch the sunrise. Today’s date marks a day of division in my generation, a day that should unite our country. Today I think about the lives lost, the history soaked into this soil, and how lucky I am for what I have today and to call this sacred land home. I’ve realised that it is not my place to tell someone how they should celebrate today, but stand strong in how I believe it should b...e. I had many minutes silence, as the yellow sun rose above the red dirt bringing light to the black sky, to think of what today means to me and what I think Australia Day should be. This day is important to our cultural history, and we should not forget why. Should we change the date? Should we change the name? Or should we change our perception of what it really means? This day will always be a memorial of the original indigenous custodians of this land, and what they endured in order to remain with it. Although I am not an indigenous man, I hope to spend the first light of every 26th of January from now on, watching the sunrise, thinking of those who stood here before me and what they sacrificed so you and I could be here today.
