25.01.2022 Our Club Concors and Polo Day is going ahead rain or shine. Look for the Bentley marquee. Gates open from 10.00 am. So polish the Bentley; pack the picnic, table and chairs; chill the champagne; round up those friends and have a fabulous day cheering on your favourite team, stomping the divots and taking in the ambiance.

23.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 9. Woolf Barnato won the very first Top Gear-style stunt race, many decades prior to Top Gear. The Blue Train was very fast, very blue, and very French. It could run from the Mediterranean coast to Calais in northern France in under a day, and Woolf boasted over dinner that he could get to London before it got to Calais. He won by four minutes, then was heavily fined by French authorities for racing.... https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d
22.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 2. Bentley didnt want to race at Le Mans in the first place. In 1923, a couple of Bentleys customers called (or sent a carrier pigeon/telegraph/smoke signal), and asked if the company would support them during some 24-hour race that the French were holding at a middle-of-nowhere place called Le Mans. Bentley (thats him in the middle) eventually agreed, and John Duff and Frank Clement finished fourth place in the first ever 24 Hours of Le Mans. The following year, those same guys won. https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d

20.01.2022 Happy birthday Walter Owen "W.O." Bentley. Born 16th September, 1888 in Hampstead, London. Walter Owen Bentley though he preferred to be called W.O. founded the company that carries his name on 10 July 1919. Now, almost 100 years later, his name is known across the globe for creating cars with an unrivalled blend of performance and the finest craftsmanship and materials. Below, we take a look at the man who changed motoring forever.... Bentley Motors was founded by W.O. Bentley. The first car to bear his name pulled out of New Street Mews, London in 1919. From modest beginnings, the company moved from strength to strength in a relentless pursuit of both luxury and performance. Were it not for the brands five victories at Le Mans in the 1920s, plus a sixth in 2003, this combination could be seen as a contradiction in terms. In which case, it could be said that Bentley continues to create the most acclaimed contradictions on the road today. Almost a century later, W.O.s vision continues to guide our beliefs, actions and ambitions. Located in Crewe, England and owned by Volkswagen AG since 1998, Bentley Motors remains the definitive British luxury car company, crafting the worlds most desirable high performance grand tourers. https://www.bentleymotors.com//historic-p/w-o-bentley.html

18.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 3. The famous Winged B hood ornament was designed with forgers in mind. As a counter to the red-hot faux hood ornament market, theres actually a different number of feathers on each side, in the hopes that forgers wouldnt notice.... https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d
17.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them. Lest we forget.

14.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 4. W.O. Bentley would have loved American muscle cars. He coined the slogan Theres no replacement for displacement for the Bentley 4.5 Litre engine, which was much larger and more powerful than the 3 Litre. It was a criticism against supercharging, and it became the mantra of American muscle car enthusiasts for decades. https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d
13.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 10. Bentleys Mission Statement Hasnt Changed Since 1919. The company was founded in 1919 and has had the same mission statement since the beginning.... That mission is To build a fast car, a good car, the best in its class. https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d

12.01.2022 Final numbers have now been provided to the Deckhouse Woolwich and it looks like we are going to have a cracking event. Parking will be available in the front of the restaurant on a first in best dressed basis. Plenty of parking is available adjacent tto the restaurant for those that dont secure a spot in front. It would be good if we could get a few Bentley motor cars next to each other in front of the restaurant for a photo opportunity. Lunch is at midday, so suggest ...you plan to arrive earlier to secure a good parking spot. Due to the numbers attending, the Deckhouse Woolwich has asked that we move to a set menu at a fixed price of $60. This will include an entree and main course and tea/coffee. From the options they have provided, there is something for everyone including gluten free and vegan. If you havent booked but would like to attend, please contact your Event Captain Mike Mulvihill immediately either by phone on 0404 470 623 or by email on [email protected].
11.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 8. Bentley had a boss named Woolf. Woolf Barnato was a wealthy playboy who raced cars for fun. He ran at Le Man three times, winning all three, then took over as CEO from W.O. Bentley after Rolls-Royce took over the company.... https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d
11.01.2022 Dear Members, it is with a heavy heart that we advise our upcoming Christmas in July Event is cancelled immediately and indefinitely postponed. Due to recent developments in relation to localised COVID-19 outbreaks and restrictions reimposed on pubs and other similar venues, the Committee has taken the decision to not proceed with Saturday 25th Julys event. ... We must at this stage hold off holding any public gatherings until such time it is safe and feasible to do so. We thank you in advance for understanding and appreciate that this is sudden and unexpected, and that this sudden cancellation may cause disruption to many individuals schedules / plans. Please contact the Bundanoon Hotel directly to discuss refunds / credits as applicable. Kind Regards, BDC NSW inc. Committee.

08.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 7. One of their racers, Glen Kidston, was one of the most badass men youve never heard of. Prior to racing for Bentley, he was a naval officer whose submarine became stuck in the sea floor thanks to faulty gauges. He somehow then got it unstuck. Years later, he was the sole survivor of a plane crash; he kicked through the fuselage while he was on fire, then put himself out, tried to rescue a prince, ran a mile through a forest for help while still smoking, then took a quick flight to calm his nerves, before going to the hospital for his burns. The following year he won Le Mans. He only died when his plane literally fell apart during a dust storm in South Africa, at which point several high-society women in London supposedly fainted. https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d
08.01.2022 Dear All, We have been advised of sad news that Marienne Vawser died this afternoon. She was at home and with family. It was not unexpected due to the cancer, but is still a shock when it happens. I am sure many of us will be very sad to hear this as Marienne was not only a good friend but always a significant part of John Vawser Motors and of course always smiling at our Club events.... Always the organizer, Marienne had planned her funeral arrangements with Viv Reed. Once I know details, I will inform NSW membership via a special e-Bulletin. Unfortunately pandemic restrictions will apply. The Clubs thoughts go out to all her family. Gregory May, Chairman.
08.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 5. Ironically, supercharged Bentleys dominated Le Mans for years. Bentleys with huge superchargers hanging off the front of the car owned Le Mans in the late 1920s and early 30s. The superchargers werent allowed to be installed on top of the engine because Bentley thought that to supercharge a Bentley engine was to pervert its design and corrupt its performance.... https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d
07.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 6. They were called Blower Bentleys. Impressively, that actually wasnt slang for a 1920s flapper with an oral fixation and a nice car.... https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d
06.01.2022 Dear fellow Members, In view of the current COVID-19 pandemic, most of your Committee are of the opinion that we should postpone all indoor gatherings for the foreseeable future, or at least until until clearer directives are issued by the responsible Governments authorities. Containment of the virus by minimising opportunities to exposure are the current bywords.... Accordingly, the upcoming General Meeting on Monday 6th April is postponed until further notice. I know that many were looking forward to the Bentley Quiz night. It will happen, but not just yet. Stay safe. Gregory May, Chairman, BDC (NSW Region) Inc
06.01.2022 A toast to W.O.’s birthday, followed by an auction and raffle to raise funds for Westmead Children’s Hospital.
05.01.2022 25 things you didnt know about Bentleys: 1. Their racing team, known as The Bentley Boys, were legendary partiers. The 1929 Le Mans victory celebration party consisted of dinner, dancing, and fair drinking until six in the morning, at which point the three prettiest girls were awarded the prize of taking a ride down the driveway in the Bentley with the driver of their choice." Crash helmets were mandatory. https://www.thrillist.com//bentley-history-23-things-you-d
