25.01.2022 Within the last 6 months or so, I have had more than a couple of enquiries regarding placenta encapsulation. More specifically, requesting encapsulation services on the day of the birth of their baby, without having contacted me for some months beforehand. Perhaps I havent made it clear enough, but it is essential that I have prior notice that you intend to have your placenta encapsulated. Contacting me with interest in the service, asking about costs and whats involved - ...that does not facilitate entering into an agreement for me to carry out this precious work. I will update my website and Facebook page with more information, but it is super important for both me and my clients to ensure that: we enter a signed contract; and a deposit is paid. One of the few expectations I have of my clients is to confirm that they are going ahead with the encapsulation at least a couple of weeks ahead of their due date, so that I can be prepared with materials required for the process. Encapsulation has a relatively small window for effectiveness - I prefer to collect, process, and deliver within 24-48 hours of birth - and contacting me some hours after ones baby is born to request encapsulation does not allow me the time to deliver within this window. 25.01.2022 By way of an update, my services are still limited due to the restrictions by the North West Private Hospital. The Huon Ward is still restricted to primary support person only, which is normally a partner. However, if you do not have a primary support person able to attend your birth, I am able to assist.

23.01.2022 In a world where the issue of consent is forefront, it never fails to surprise and sadden me that circumcision remains as prevalent as it is. You wouldnt give a toddler a boob-job, why remove part of a babys body when completely unnecessary to do so? Circumcision of boys without a medical indication is ethically unacceptable when the procedure is carried out without informed consent from the person undergoing the surgery. Therefore, circumcision should not be performed before the boy is 18 years old and able to decide whether this is an operation he wants."

Oh just wait until they’re teenagers, you have no idea. DO NOT LISTEN to people warning of the dangers coming. Find people who are dancing up the path ahead of you. You just wait until you’re feeling the waves of bringing a new soul into existence, it’s the most glorious moment of my life. Oh just wait until you’re nursing and holding your newborn in the middle of the night and you’re breathing in the sweetest smell of the top of their head and it feels like you’re the only two in existence and your love for them is almost scary because your mind can barely conceive it. You just wait until you get to watch your two year old learning new independence, capabilities and language, it’s the highlight of my life watching their personality, humor and individuality develop. Just wait until all of the foundation and relationship you spent their whole lives building results in a grown person that you now get to connect with on a whole new level, without resentment and control or rebellion because they’ve felt respected and considered since they were born. 11.01.2022 Doula question: Why does it take only a minute or so for some cords to stop pulsing and others over 5 minutes? Answer: Hospital Birthing Suites are kept rather ...cold, especially an Operating Room. The warmer the environment the baby is born into the longer it will take for the liquid gel in the cord to become solid. Plus the baby taking good deep breaths switches fetal circulation to air-breathing circulation bringing blood away from the cord and sending it instead to the lungs. Retired midwife here See more

05.01.2022 Many believe or are told they must be 10 cm to begin pushing. This is not science based! I have seen women pushing WAY before they were 10cm. I have seen women... pushing HOURS after being complete. 10cm means nothing. You can progress in 2 minutes, 2 hours, or 2 days. All variations of normal. You can be 10cm dialated for some time and still not be ready. Thats okay and normal! Often providers learn mom is 10cm, so they tell her to start pushing (prematurely). Then shes pushing for hours, causing complication. All because she was not yet ready! Listen to YOUR body, not a stranger who knows nothing of what your body is feeling/doing in those moments. When in a captive birthing facility, you may experience them demand minimums and normal signs. They pull this shit regularly. How much is science based though? Not much! Often causing complication. Your BODY will tell you when to push. You honestly will likely have zero say and it will just happen. If it in unhindered, of course. That's the truth I can leave you with. The system is corrupt AF. Setting many up for failure. That cervix you have, is no crystal ball.

We live in a state of fight or flight and second guessing our decisions because we focus on the 1.5% chance of a medical emergency happening. That's not healthy for anyone. Let's flip the conversation on its head and discuss how you have a 98.5% chance of having a successful vaginal birth after cesarean and what we can do to support that outcome. #vbacsuccessstories

01.01.2022 A new report says more than one-third of women in four low-income countries in Africa and Asia were slapped, mocked, forcibly treated or otherwise abused during childbirth in health centers and suggests that such mistreatment occurs worldwide. The study published Wednesday in The Lancet medical journal says women in Nigeria, Myanmar, Ghana and Guinea also experienced high rates of cesarean sections and surgical cuts to the vagina, or episiotomies, without their consent and often without a painkiller.
