24.01.2022 Hi folks, BUFF is in a time of fallow and we would refer anyone interested in local community gardening to visit Eat Dirt Permaculture on Facebook and their Moodji Farm project in Bermagui. It is open to ll and doing a wonderful job. Thanks and happy digging.

24.01.2022 Happy New Year to all and may this year be productive, fun and supportive of our growing non chem, fresh local produce! One topic on my mind that is not wholly garden oriented is the Great Southern Forest program that launched recently and pertains to our region. May i recommend it to our friends and colleagues as a future strategy for managing the bigger garden of our native forests. Check it out at www.greatsouthernforest.org.au and maybe become a Friend, too, at https://www.facebook.com/greatsouthernforest

22.01.2022 You may have seen this before, though if not... Soooo true! GOD: Frank, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there on the planet? What happened to the Dandelions, violets, milkweeds and stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought and multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long-lasting blossoms attracts butterflies, honey bees and flocks of songbi...Continue reading

21.01.2022 It is Spring time again and life of plants reboots... and so do we. With several sites being worked on, there is plenty to do and we are certainly open to others joining us, as and when they can. The main arrangement we live by is: Any visiting of the BUFF gardens has to be coordinated by our members, as our hosts do not appreciate strangers/non-BUFFers dropping by unannounced.... Please contact Paul on 0466 013 153 or Maggie on 0488 517 200 to find out how and when to access these private sites. Give us a call anyway to find out more about our community gardening projects, which are open to all.

20.01.2022 To all those who have from the beginning Liked us, Followed us and commented, a very big thank you!. Buff has been in existence for several years now and changed over that time, sometime a largish group and sometimes only a few participating, a bit like the breathing in and out of Nature. We have expanded our gardening spaces and yet... we have not attracted the hands, minds and hearts to actually maintain a credible and practical engagement on the ground.... Also, the sites we have developed have changed and it is now time for us to acknowledge this and accept that the few who are active do not have the capacity and time to sustain BUFF in its present form. The model has not proved viable on the longer term, or, we are not the ones to carry it forward. BUFF was always to be reviewed and adapted to accommodate real life and aspiration, so now is the time to admit we have no solution at hand to enable its continuation. We are withdrawing from both current sites and reassessing options, in other words, going into complete hibernation as is appropriate for this season. If anyone wishes to make contact and offer energy, passion, resources, abilities or actions, please do so and discussions can happen, though otherwise this page will sleep. Happy gardening and growing with heart...

17.01.2022 Thanks for Liking and checking BUFF out folks. With Summer here we are open to more hands in the ground, so drop us a line and we can set up a visit. Happy growing

16.01.2022 After some banging, puffing and pulling, the first bed at Fairhaven now has some protection for its new inhabitants to grow to maturity. I think of this a Green Arches rather than the Golden M ones.

14.01.2022 Spring has sprung and we are busy getting seeds and seedlings in the ground at both sites. New beds are in and netted now at Fairhaven (FH) and almost all beds are ready at our other site, so we are going well. This, in part, is thanks to a couple of newcomers, good on you both, and we are certainly open to more joining us, as and when they can, as access is flexible now to both gardens. We've put in Giant Bell peppers, cabbages, carrots, beetroot, parsnips, silverbeet and broccoli and a choko and pumpkins at FH, at different times to stage the harvesting. We have an abundance of Asian and mustard greens including green and purple mazuma, plus a variety of rocket to choose from. With a batch of Cos coming along nicely too, it bodes well for salad days.

14.01.2022 Hi folks, What better way to start off a new year, this new year, than with a great opportunity for like minded residents of this region. Check this out, though it is not BUFF oriented, per se: Central Tilba NSW: Virginia York has a 44 acre farm in a delightful position on the northern foothills of Gulaga with a small orchard and veggie patch, 3 horses and plenty of space for 1 or 2 tiny houses. There is a half cleared private paddock with access to a dam and its own gated en...tranceway that I would like to see being leased or shared with like-minded people. I am seeking organic-minded / permaculture people, non-smoking, energy aware and community minded and interested in sustainable living, who would like to share in the beauty of the quiet valley. We are only 7 minutes out of Central Tilba village on mostly sealed roads, close to the village life, but very quiet and private. Happy to share some central resources, and looking for people with Tiny Houses or wanting to grow organic or spray-free food. I am open to discussions for possibilities. Contact Virginia on 0419 200 737 or [email protected] Apart from this, wishing you happy growing! See more

12.01.2022 Happy Summer to our community! We continue in two sites and though a small team we are achieving some production, so there is room for more hands and produce.. Here is our flyer if you cared to print it off and share. Like the soil and seasons, nothing is fixed, so our focus and this info can change as needs. Grow to Eat, Eat to Grow!

12.01.2022 Good things come to those who wait... And they do. Vegies and gardeners have arrived on our plate and support list, we are pleased to say. Denise and husband Rob have been thinking about setting up a garden in their caravan park and then they heard about BUFF. They can now walk around the corner to Fairhaven garden at their leisure and convenience, water, weed and do all the other good things that go on in a garden. Welcome folks.

11.01.2022 Anyone for more gardens and care of forests for all?

11.01.2022 It is soooo good to see Moodji Far, flourishing: Walawaani all, With circumstances changing weekly it’s been hard to convey where Moodji is ‘at’. ...Continue reading

11.01.2022 Well, urban food farming and forestry is catching on and this is a great Aussie example: https://www.natureaustralia.org.au//LivingMelbourne_Strate Maybe we can be a more active part of the global movement.

10.01.2022 This looks to be an interesting session.

09.01.2022 And so to Fairhaven... This is a site to be believed, as they say. Such an unusual location and orientation with an amazing variety of established fruit and nut trees. A little daunting if one is to imagine it fully restored and productive, yet this a long term project. And we have only touched the tip of the iceberg regarding vegetables, with only one small bed prepared and planted thus far. We have a hot house, water, mulch supplies and room. Watch this space as big things are possible.

06.01.2022 Well, this is getting somewhere... New bed almost set for Spring planting and greens, rhubarb, snap peas and more coming along under net now. Flag flying over Fairhaven, gotta say.

06.01.2022 Hi folks,. Seems BUFF holds interest still and may the concept be tested elsewhere as our experiment in Bermi has come to an end. What have we learned? 1 Respect all involved and their diversity 2. Have regular debriefs and test ideas to ensure you are 'on track'... 3. Do not try to compete with those with gardens at home 4. Stay in touch with the owner/s of the land and engage them in the process, if they wish 5. Maintain a consensus regarding goals and processes - see 2. 6. Allow that the situation can change and let it go if it does not work 7. Having a go is valuable. Happy gardening and if it starts up again here, it will be published. This site will not have posts from now. Many thanks for all who have participated and sent good vibes. BUFFers

02.01.2022 Hi folks, We have been quiet for a while though activity continues in the background, well both grounds, actually: Fairhaven and another site. In fact, we had a bed of asparagus that needed attention, so if anyone, who has asparagus on their fav list, wants to come by and check it out, they would be welcome. Drop me a line to arrange a time.... At Fairhaven, we have space for new plantings and a bed that has been openned though not netted yet and that may be a task you could consider. All necessary materials are on site. Growing means eating and this is our focus. Growing well then enhances our lives, in the garden and at the table. Give yourself a treat and check our BUFF gardens.
