25.01.2022 Update from parkrun HQ. With the reopening of events in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Guernsey and the Isle of Man last weekend, we saw 103 events and over 10,000 participants at parkruns across four countries. It’s also worth noting that it took us six-and-a-half years to reach this milestone in April 2011, a feat that we’ve achieved in just five weeks since events returned (second time around) in New Zealand. ... And there’s more good news on the horizon: Namibia is set to reopen on Saturday 14 November, with events in South Australia returning a week after on 21 November. These are positive steps that we should all celebrate. Slowly, things are returning to normal in many places around the world, and we are bringing back parkrun events as quickly as we can where restrictions and permissions allow. We do recognise however that the news isn’t positive everywhere. The announcement earlier today that Great Run Local in the UK has closed is a reminder that, sadly, the longer this goes on, the more we risk losing opportunities for structured, physical activity and all of the benefits it brings. Importantly, we continue to call for the decisions that are made to consider all available evidence, particularly around outdoor transmission of COVID-19. It is vital that if we make decisions to prevent or remove opportunities for communities to be physically active and social, the cost of doing so must be weighed against the risks of these activities going ahead. Finally, for those of you facing the prospect of an extended period without parkrun, please know that we are here for you too. Although we may not be able to hold physical events and meet in the normal way, our digital channels remain open and (not)parkrun continues to bring communities together virtually. Thanks for your continued support.
22.01.2022 Information. Part 3, the last part. Participants will be encouraged to scan the event's unique QR code. We will provide the QR code on our FB page and at the event on the day. You can check in before you leave home, when you arrive back home or in the car and not have to bring your phone. We will not be keeping a manual list, due to privacy reasons. Participants are also encouraged to check that they have current contact numbers and email details attached to their parkrun ac...count. This may help if there is a need for contract tracing. Please visit www.parkrun.com.au/register/. Note: the event team can't help with technical questions or password resets. Volunteers in the Timing and Scanning roles will need to be using the latest parkrun volley app Android 2.0.3 (138), Apple 2.0 (43). If you have any questions or concerns please raise them in comments.
22.01.2022 Good afternoon Berwick Springs parkrunners, Many of you have asked when we can return to parkrun. At this stage, it is still unknown. Please see below information from parkrun HQ regarding where we stand at the moment. *It is wonderful to see restrictions easing across Victoria this week with lockdown ending and the state moving to Phase B of the National Plan from 11:59pm last Thursday night. We hope these changes provide some happiness and relief to you, your families and ...your communities after such an uncertain time. While many restrictions have eased, Victoria’s Roadmap for both Metro Melbourne and Regional Victoria outline that participation caps remain for Physical Recreation and Community Sport. Further advice from The Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR) confirms these participation caps mean we are unable to open parkrun events under Phase B of Victoria’s Roadmap. Please be assured, we are closely monitoring government announcements and restrictions and look forward to reopening parkrun events across Victoria as soon as possible.* Take care of each other and stay safe xx
20.01.2022 Update from parkrun HQ With the reopening of 12 events in Tasmania last Saturday, we saw over 5,000 different people walk, jog, run, or volunteer across 45 parkrun events worldwide. Although this represents only 2% of events, 5,000 participants is a significant milestone that took us five-and-a-half years to achieve the first time around.... Sadly, due to increased restrictions in response to growing infections, last Friday we took the decision to postpone our planned return in Poland. Whilst disappointing, and despite it being technically possible for parkrun to return within government guidelines, we know that this was the right decision in the circumstances. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation there, and look for an opportunity to return as soon as it is appropriate to do so. This weekend we’re looking forward to welcoming back parkrun in Japan, and we continue to work closely with the health department in Western Australia regarding our planned return this coming Saturday now that their easing of restrictions has been pushed back. Looking further ahead we continue to make positive progress in other parts of the world, with the expected return of parkrun events in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) on 31 October, along with events in Guernsey and the Isle of Man. It’s been heart-warming to see so many parkrunners keeping the community spirit of their local parkrun alive by participating in our (not)parkrun campaign, finding the motivation to be physically active and encouraging others to do so too. Over 70,000 parkrunners have now logged more than 500,000 (not)parkruns, including nearly 6,000 people who have not yet completed a parkrun. All of which is particularly encouraging and demonstrates to us that parkrun has an important role to play in the health and wellbeing of the population now and in the future. With every week that passes we are making progress, with more opportunities for people to parkrun, or (not)parkrun, in more locations around the world. Thanks for your continued support.
20.01.2022 Hot off the Press from HQ parkrun Australia COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update: 17 December Dear all,... 2020 has been an incredibly difficult year for many people in the parkrun community, especially those in Victoria, so we are overjoyed to deliver the news of parkrun reopening early in the new year. The Victorian Government (Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions) has now clarified that parkrun events in Victoria can reopen in accordance with Tier 3 of the Government’s public events regulations, which applies to public events up to 1,000 participants. As with all parkruns around the world, events in Victoria will operate under parkrun’s global COVID-19 Framework and local requirements. Given the additional complexities of reopening events over the festive period, in particular obtaining landowner permission, all 90 parkrun and junior parkrun events in Victoria will reopen on Saturday 16 January 2021 and Sunday 17 January 2021. We’re back peeps - see you in the New Year

15.01.2022 Australia specific update. Since our last fortnightly update we have been encouraged to see restrictions continue to ease in Melbourne and regional Victoria. After many months of uncertainty it has been heartwarming and uplifting to see friends and families reunited, and underlines how parkrun will play an important role in helping communities reconnect as our events reopen.... In accordance with the next step of the Victorian Government’s Roadmap to Reopening, which is due to commence on 22 November, we are currently working with the 90 parkrun and junior parkrun event teams in Victoria to review the density requirements. Around the rest of Australia, Saturday saw the largest number of parkrun events and participants since March. 7,359 walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers took part at 61 events across the ACT, Northern Territory, Western Australia and Tasmania. In Tasmania this included 80 participants at Our Park parkrun and 85 at Kate Reed parkrun, two events that have launched since parkrun reopened. Welcome to the parkrun family! The remainder of the month will see the reopening of almost 150 parkruns and junior parkruns across South Australia and Queensland on 21 and 28 November respectively. Queensland parkruns will display a QR Code for contact tracing purposes and we will be strongly encouraging participants to scan in. In New South Wales, the COVID-19 Policy Team, Public Health Response Branch NSW Ministry of Health have reviewed our application and put this forward to the Minister. We are currently awaiting an outcome and will provide a further update as soon as we are in a position to do so. Finally, we are delighted to announce that parkrun will launch at Melaleuca Women’s Prison in Western Australia on 19 December. Melaleuca will be the 10th parkrun in Australia to be held in a correctional facility and just the second anywhere in the world alongside Wacol parkrun at Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre to take place in a remand centre. 14.01.2022 Australian specific update from parkrun HQ. Since we started providing fortnightly updates specific to parkrun in Australia, we promised to send an additional email with any significant developments. Following extensive discussions with the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation, we have approval to reopen all 107 parkrun and junior parkrun events in Queensland on 28 November.... When events reopen in Queensland they will each be required to display a unique QR code for contact tracing purposes and we will be strongly encouraging all participants to sign in. This system currently exists for parkruns in New Zealand and the ACT and is working effectively. For parkrunners in New South Wales and Victoria, we are continuing to make steady progress and intend to provide a further update in our regular fortnightly email next week. This announcement is another significant step forward on the road to reopening parkrun across all of Australia, and we thank you as always for your support and patience.
14.01.2022 Update from parkrun HQ Last Saturday we were delighted to see parkrun events in Japan and Western Australia restart. Alongside parkruns currently operating in New Zealand, other Australian states and Territories, and the Falkland Islands, we saw 89 events welcome more than 8,500 walkers, joggers and runners, with over 900 volunteers, almost one hundred of whom were volunteering with us for the very first time.... It is absolutely heartwarming to see some of our parkrun communities coming back together again. Bit by bit, we are getting there. This weekend parkruns in Guernsey, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and in the Isle of Man will also reopen, taking us to more than 100 events happening across the globe. And we are pleased to announce the expected return of parkrun events in Namibia, on 14 November. We continue in conversations with our stakeholders, global staff team, local teams and volunteers to progress, where we can, any further opportunities to bring parkruns back in our other territories. In the northern hemisphere, as winter encroaches, many of our regions are experiencing a rise in new infections and, in turn, an increase in restrictions. Our commitment to monitoring the situation remains, as does our work with relevant government and public health bodies to make the right decision at the right time; to bring parkrun back to those communities where it is safe and sensible to do so, and where current guidelines allow. This week will mark the end of #parktoberfest, and it’s been wonderful to see so many parkrunners coming together to be active, social and outdoors, logging significant numbers of (not)parkruns. More than 6,000 people who have yet to complete an actual parkrun have now logged a (not)parkrun. I’d like to personally welcome them to the parkrun family. With the passing of each day we see change across all 22 countries in which we operate. Our mission to make the world a healthier and happier place holds as firm as ever, and our belief that parkrun has a significant role to play in mental and physical wellbeing continues to drive us every day. Thanks, as always.

03.01.2022 Christmas and New Year's Day parkruns Dear all, As parkrun gradually reopens across Australia, there have understandably been a number of people asking whether we intend to give event teams the choice to hold additional festive parkruns on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day like we have in previous years. ... Festive parkruns have been a permanent fixture on the parkrun calendar since our very first year back in 2004, and we’ve come to understand in that time just how important these events are for many people in the parkrun family. While Christmas Day in particular for some is a joyous occasion, for others it can be a lonely and difficult time, and this is why we are working hard to reach an informed and responsible decision. We therefore feel it would be helpful to explain the decision making process we are currently working through. Firstly, our absolute priority will always be the potential impact of these additional events on both volunteer teams and the open spaces where our events take place. Many years of experience has shown that some events will see significantly higher attendances than normal on Christmas and New Year’s Day, for a variety of reasons, which places extra pressure on volunteers and other park users. Additionally, this year we are mindful that volunteers are adjusting to delivering events in accordance with parkrun’s COVID-19 Framework and events in some areas may be required to adhere to local restrictions such as density requirements and participation limits. As we cannot, and will not impose participation limits at parkrun, it is vital that we have as much information as possible before making a decision. Since the first week in July, we have been sending a representative survey to Australian parkrunners every Friday that asks how likely they would be to return to parkrun when it reopens. This insight has given us a valuable baseline of people’s attitudes and, in areas where parkrun has reopened, is allowing us to cross reference people’s intentions with their actual participation and forecast with a high degree of confidence the likely participation numbers at events that are due to reopen. Consequently, we will continue to analyse both the intent to return surveys and participant numbers over the next few Saturdays before making a decision. We are mindful of giving sufficient notice to events teams that are considering holding festive parkruns and it is therefore our intention to write to you again on 7 December with our decision. If we do decide to allow parkruns to take place on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, we must be clear that this is entirely optional for event teams and will require explicit landowner approval for events that do not have this as part of their permit. We should also take this opportunity to reiterate the decision was taken earlier in the year that New Year’s Day ‘doubles’ will no longer take place. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
02.01.2022 A week to go folks and a good time to re-familiarise ourselves with the parkrun volunteer and walker and runner codes of conduct.
01.01.2022 MEET & GREET Monday Amanda C has completed 167 parkruns, with 148 of these being at Berwick Springs.
