23.01.2022 For the dogs, training is all about exposure, meeting with manners for overly excited dogs or closing the distance where they react in aggression or fear, and b...eing rewarded for every good action they take. For humans, training is all about rinse and repeat. It may seem repetitive and an uphill battle but its all about consistently training your dogs by exposing them to other dogs in the daily walk and by rewarding them to get the behaviour you want. 23.01.2022 This girl is highly anxious when separated from her owner to the point that she can't be walked by anyone, yanks and twists to get back to her owner, is totally ...focussed on owner(not usually a bad thing, except not to this degree!) and even at home, the owner is frequently tripping over her as the dog is always right there second guessing her every move. Kevin is attempting to get this dog to adjust to other people for its own sake as such a high level of separation anxiety is unhealthy for a dog. Kevin suggests that the dog should be walked and fed by other people to break the reliance on the owner; reduce the protein content of its food to keep hyperactivity down; and give the dog time off in the yard with toys that make the dog indulge in normal dog behaviours like seeking food and figuring out how to get it from containers/treat toys etc. The advice for the owner is-"Cool the relationship down!"

18.01.2022 Working out your dog's reaction distance for a calmer walk Is your dog dragging you around from uncontrollable excitement or lunging and growling at dogs in fea...r or aggression? It is time then to work out the distance where your dog walks calmly instead of battling your dog by getting too close to other dogs, even though too close may be meters away! Say your dog reacts once you're closer than 3 meters from a dog.So practice getting and keeping your dog's attention on you when you are 3 meters away from other dogs. Initially work at home or go for walks when not many dogs are around to perfect getting their attention when the distractions are low.Slowly build up to a few dogs and eventually your goal is to walk your dog in a high distraction area, like a park full of dogs and kids on scooters, with your dog still looking at you when called, dropping and sitting on command or following any other command (it could be some cool trick you have taught them!) If your dog can focus on you when at home or when there are'nt any dogs around, they can do so when the park is full but you will have to slowly get them used to the high energy of the park. Once you have their focus in a busy environment, then move from 3 meters to 2.5 meters but don't rush it and expect to go back to 3 meters if your dog is not ready. And of course there will be two good days followed by 1 bad because that's training for you. Everytime your dog looks at you or listens to a command, instead of reacting, its a win for the dog as they have trusted you instead of getting stressed by reacting, be it wildly pulling on the lead in their excitment or feeling fear and aggression.

16.01.2022 Pics from our 3rd training session. The 8 am Sunday morning start seemed a small sacrifice as the owner's began to see that their dog would not be punishing the...m forever with poor leash manners. Most dogs were walking well within two sessions and a couple of new comers managed to master the walk within one session. Emphasis was placed on ensuring the dogs were focused on the owner. When an owner is in control, the dogs can relax in the safety of their owners leadership.Dog aggression, lead aggression and poor leash /social manners can all be the result of a dog who is trying to be the leader instead of trusting his owner. 14.01.2022 Classes are a great way to socialise your dog even if it is reactive.Already social dogs can benefit from the instilling of obedience, the owners get valuable i...nformation from the Q and A during and after the sessions, and owners get a dog who is mentally stimulated and exhausted (yey!). For a reactive dog, the class gives the owner the confidence to test the temperament of their dog in a controlled and safe environment as all dogs are on leads. The owner can then focus on lead training, making sure their dog is looking up at them for instruction and leadership, and slowly get their dogs closer and closer to other dogs without reaction. Different goals for different dogs all in one space where both dogs and humans are bonding through training.

13.01.2022 If your dog's attention is rarely on you during a walk, chances are he is leading the walk criss-crossing at will or if your dog is reactive, lunging at other d...ogs. Kevin is walking a reactive dog in the video and he is giving the dog other options to reacting by keeping him busy through voice commands like heel, sit;changing the pace to make the dog concentrate and keep up with him;talking to him;and using food as a reward. But the most important tool Kevin uses is to read the dog's body language before the behaviour occurs. The tail-You can see in the video that the before the dogs are reactive, the tails get raised high and after the lunging the tails remain high and stiffly wagging.A calm dog's tail stays even with the spine or slightly elevated with relaxed wagging. The eyes- The extra showing of the white of the eye is known as 'whale eye".The reactive dogs in the video can be seen looking around rather than keeping their attention on the person walking them as they are in a heightened, alert state and you can clearly see more of the white of their eyes as they look at the source of their discomfort from the corner of their eye. Before a reactive dog lunges, they may give a hard stare indicating their aggression.

08.01.2022 This girl is about 2yrs, so a young teenager and unsuprisingly, fiesty, exuberant and good with the back chat especially if another dog starts it! The good thi...ng about this girl is that she is very food focussed. So,as is often the case in dog training, Kevin is actually training the owner, and here Kevin wants the owner to feed the dog less from a bowl and more during the walks as a way to keep her attention. Also this girl needs her attitude corrected promptly as she is quite strong willed and needs her owner to be the leader and to stop the dominance becoming aggression. Kevin is training the owner to give a quick lead correction when she is reactive, keep the dog moving away from the trigger, then get the dog's attention back on the owner through food and by making sure dog is sitting and making eye contact even during distractions from other dogs misbehaving.

07.01.2022 This is young Mia. Just starting on the training road apparently a PugX Only three months old. Owners are great fun and enjoying the new addition as am I enjoying training the little girl. But if the truth be known good owners train their dogs and good trainers train the owners.

06.01.2022 Sheba is our trainer Kevin's dog.Sheba is such a calm dog that she is showing Bella, who is fear reactive, to stop thinking all dogs are a threat.By just not ba...cking away when Bella lunges at her or growls, Sheba is saying that "I'm not a threat but I will not be moving away".Sheba puts it back on Bella to choose to not growl or lunge at her and instead gives her another option, which is to move away because Sheba has not shown any aggression or fear. We went to Kevin's home for some intensive training and within an hour,Bella went from being fear aggressive to playing with two other dogs in the yard! See more
