22.01.2022 Think the first point of contact for employees wanting to learn something new is Google? Think again! According to the Harvard Business Review, "more workers first turn to their peers (55%)second only to asking their bosses." Time and again studies have shown that peer to peer learning is the most powerful and productivity-linked way of boosting skills and know-how in an organisation. Why? Because learning is, fundamentally, social.... And yet, it seems that less than half of organisations have formal peer-to-peer learning and development systems in place! 20.01.2022 Effective learning organisations know that to stay on the front foot of change, learning must be tailored and fit-for-purpose. 19.01.2022 The latest edition of ASCD Express argues that the first step Principals can take in trying to avoid new teacher attrition is to build supportive professional networks: http://www.ascd.org//3-steps-principals-can-take-to-stop-n In regional and remote schools, this is particularly essential. The article argues that isolation (by this I would include both professional and social) damages early career teachers confidence and capacity to grow. ... The article goes on to explain that school leaders can "look across the district to identify strong mentors for new teachers", and that digital tools and social media platforms may be a good way of connecting teachers and school leaders to share some of the exciting things that are going on in the classroom. 17.01.2022 Why could microcredentialing disrupt the one size fits all approach to teacher professional learning in Australia? 10.01.2022 Schools, colleges, universities and training organisations are not simply businesses. However, they are complex organisations in which their most important input - effective teachers - make a real difference to student outcomes. The problem of growing teacher effectiveness is one of complexity: no two teachers, or students, are exactly alike. Effective professional learning for schools and educators must therefore be designed. It cannot simply be outsourced without consi...deration of the schools context, goals and challenges. And, it must involve teachers themselves in the shaping and embedding of their own professional learning. 08.01.2022 A new report authored by Deloitte shines hope on the future of work for people, organisations and nations that invest in ongoing learning. The findings of The path to prosperity: why the future of work is human are a pleasant change from the usual dystopian predictions of peoples jobs being taken over by robots and AI. The report argues that for organisations prepared to flip the numbers by spending bigger on training than on recruitment, the possibility of staying ahea...d of skills shortages is much higher. The importance of microcredentialing and work-integrated learning, though, will be key to being adaptable and nimble.
