25.01.2022 Closing of Open Wounds This is one of my pet subjects, I deliver many lectures and training of Wound Assessment and Closure as well as attending to serious wounds on a very regular basis. It amazes me how many Trainers, EMT's, Physio's, Para's, Nurses etc that just don't follow guidelines when they are confronted with a wound in a pressure situation at an Event or Sport. We have Trainers that are closing wounds by way of supa glue with zero onward referral. It is amazing how ...they think this is a great skill set they have and literally think they are doing great, you aren't. Please don't use products like this, I've even seen 2 part epoxy used as well as Loctite. if you aren't qualified to close wounds then refer them to the Hospital, Patients Dr or your onsite Doc or a suitably qualified person in Wound care. The wound needs to be assessed properly first, a decision then needs to be made what has to happen to the wound I.e. does it need to be closed by medical glue, steri's or sutured. It needs to be cleaned correctly, it needs to see if underlying damage has been done to nerves, tendons, ligaments, veins, arteries etc. is the person diabetic, vascularly compromised and so on. So what should you do, clean the wound by irrigation then the above decisions need to be made. Refer on straight away if you haven't been trained. If you would like to learn some great wound skill sets let us know as we run specific courses on this that will qualify you. Remember a person can lose a finger, arm or leg by the error you make, infections are rife and just waiting to take up house, make sure it isn't in your patient.

17.01.2022 Another very tough day at the office. Thank you to my Team, great professional work, even though we were small in number today. A big thank you to the incredible response time and turnout by QAS, even though we were in the Bush. 15.01.2022 For our Trained Dr's; Registered Paramedics; AEMT's here is a new cool device from the guys that know all about chest decompression. We carry the previous model to this with us and it is a great device, cant wait to get the new SPEARS and give them a try. Enjoy and please do not attempt this unless you are trained and skilled at insertion..... Thanks Laurie for the share. I love the mannequin, we enquired for a new needle decompression mannequin from the US last week, they wanted US$5,400, this is just a normal mannequin with the bag out.....

15.01.2022 This landmark $1.4 million payout will rock football and sport in Australia to the core. About time, as changes need to occur, training of first aid and medical people at games has to improve. We have countless TBI’s going undiagnosed each and every week Sport is played, we have first Aiders and paramedical contractors and volunteers not suspending sports people immediately until clearance is gained from a Medico. If they present with ANY sign or symptom of a TBI, the most c...ommon being a headache, then they have to be stood down immediately, you have no other choice. Learn to say, sorry mate you are done, I am sending you off for an assessment by the Dr. If they object strongly or parents jump up and down, don’t really care, stop whining and go to the Doc. Get tough, you have a duty of care and people are trusting you to make a decision that is in the their best interests. Yes we know that the headache may subside after 10 minutes BUT it doesn’t matter, you have no idea of the damage done. First Aiders, Emergency Medical Technician’s; Paramedics, Physios and Nurses DO NOT have qualifications to clear the patient. They have to go to a Dr. If you are working to protect players, then do your job and protect them by observing Paul’s CRT form (Concussion Recognition Tool). Some Australian sporting bodies tout they have the rules in place but at the coalface where the action is it is a different story.

14.01.2022 A big change for us with our students in Brisbane trainings. We have moved most of our trainjng now to George Williams Hotel 317-325 George Street ,Brisbane Queensland 4000, Australia. The Pullman Mercure have been fabulous for many years but the room restricted our numbers, these are much bigger premises. Hope to see you there at a course soon.

05.01.2022 It was a great day of racing at Coolum Beach yesterday and the Team Yamaha Japanese crew were hard at it, the head mechanic issuing some instructions with great passion to the lads on the track. Not too sure what the signs say but his face says it all.

03.01.2022 Some days when on duty we get challenges that are very interesting. Yesterday we needed to extricate a patient up in the mountains after crossing 6 creek crossings and traveling for 45 minutes winding through the flats, cattle, donkeys and climbing a mountain we finally made it to our patient. We then needed to stabilise and extricate back to base for transport by QAS to Hospital. Thanks to the OIC John for making the journey out to us. I thought we needed a helicopter winch out job at first but we were able to give enough support and meds to drive patient back to base. Great job Team.

03.01.2022 One of Best Medic Groups Bundy crews is having a great weekend on duty at Kart racing in Bundaberg this weekend. A little damp but lovely and cool. Big shout out to our other Crews working in various areas of the State.
