21.01.2022 Can you change Christmas for someone like Carolyn? Single mum Carolyn and her five-year-old daughter almost didn’t celebrate Christmas last year. She’d been dealing with her daughter’s special needs, her own health issues and living pay-to-pay. The donated presents from the Geelong Giving Tree Appeal changed their Christmas. Carolyn says: Receiving gifts through the Giving Tree Appeal made Christmas come true for my daughter. I was struggling to make ends meet and didn’t kn...ow how I was going to afford anything for Christmas. I’ll never forget the smile on my daughter’s face when she opened her presents. This year I’m in a better position and I’m donating to the appeal to give another family the hope the appeal created for me. Carolyn’s donating are you? Set a realistic goal for the money - e.g. if youd like to use it for debts, savings, clothes for yourself or the kids. 15.01.2022 "It was good to talk to other blokes about their experiences and how they handed it, like taking time to think before you act, say if youre in a heated argument with your partner, just take a quick break, clear your head then come back and talk about it." Tom* completed Bethanys Mens Behaviour Change Program last year and said it has taught him ways to manage his behaviour without resorting to violence. You can read more here: https://bit.ly/2ZK9dmo
15.01.2022 Layla* couldn’t have been more grateful for the gifts her two children received from the Geelong Giving Tree Appeal last Christmas. She’d been caring for her father who had terminal cancer, her teenage brother, and her children. That meant she wasn’t able to work, but the bills were piling up. Bethany was supporting the family with housing after they’d been on verge of homelessness. The Geelong Giving Tree Appeal provided Layla a huge relief.... I’m grateful and thankful to the community who made my kids smile. They were so happy with their gifts, and it gave me a huge relief that I didn’t have to stress about Christmas. Your $30 donation could be the reason a little boy finds a present under the Christmas tree. Donate what you can, every dollar helps. www.geelonggivingtree.org.au #GeelongTogether #GeelongGivingTree *Name has been changed for privacy
15.01.2022 Could you imagine not knowing where you were going to sleep tonight, tomorrow or the next week? 95% of people experiencing homelessness do not sleep on the streets. Maybe you woke up this morning after sleeping on a friends couch which was actually an improvement from the previous few nights where you slept in your car. After you woke up this morning, you immediately left your friends house as you didnt want to over stay your welcome and you headed straight into work. ...No shower, no breakfast and certainly no idea where you were going to rest your head tonight. Find out how you can call on the government to implement change: https://everybodyshome.com.au/about/

10.01.2022 For the past 20 years, you've changed Christmas for local families in need by donating toys, games, clothes and food to the Geelong Giving Tree Appeal. We've always been blown away by the generosity of our community. This year, we've had to change the way our appeal runs so we can keep everyone COVID safe. We're asking you to donate money to the value of what you would've spent on a donated gift.... What hasn't changed is the impact your donation makes to families in need. Money from the appeal will be exchanged for gift cards so the vulnerable families we work with can buy Christmas gifts for their children and themselves. For many, this could be the only way they can afford to put gifts under their trees. We’ve partnered with bay 93.9 Geelong, BCYF Barwon Child, Youth & Family and The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre to change Christmas for locals in need. Donate online until December 1: geelonggivingtree.org.au #GeelongTogether #GeelongGivingTree
