15.01.2022 Beyond Five is excited to announce that we have changed our name to Head and Neck Cancer Australia. Since our launch in late 2016, we have become well-respected within the head and neck cancer community including among patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals. Our comprehensive library of resources is used by over 60 hospitals across Australia and New Zealand and in the last 12 months our website has had over 95,000 new visitors. We also have the only Directo...ry of Head and Neck Cancer services and support groups available in Australia and New Zealand helping people to find the right services and support when they need it most. There is, however, a lot of work still to be done to raise general awareness of head and neck cancer in the community and to advocate for greater funding for head and neck cancer prevention and patient care. So, while our name will be changing, the three pillars that guide our work will remain the same: 1) Raise Awareness Nationally 2) Provide Vital Support 3) Influence Public Policy To read more about our name change or to find out how to get your hands on our new Head and Neck Cancer Australia patient resources for your local hospital or support group please visit: https://buff.ly/2S1mguQ

08.01.2022 Head and Neck Cancer Australia Ambassador, Mike George, from Victoria has been instrumental in coordinating the Larykins Group for people who have had a laryngectomy and their friends and family. Throughout Covid-19 the group has met online for weekly Friday afternoon drinks sharing experiences and most importantly providing encouragement to each other as they deal with the challenges of life as a lary. For some members, the Larykins Group has been the first time they have me...t other larys. The group is also committed to securing funding across Australia for HME’s (Heat and Moisture Exchanger), essential equipment for larys to help reduce mucus production and coughing by humidifying and filtering the air breathed in, greatly reducing the risk of respiratory infection. Without funding the cost can be as high as $100 a week. The group is currently lobbying SA Health. Earlier this week a group of the Victorian based larys were finally able to meet face to face for lunch, what a marvellous sight! To find out more about Larykins visit https://buff.ly/3nUEyf6

01.01.2022 Early detection of #HNC saves lives. Professor Grant McArthur, Executive Director of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre - VCCC and Chair of the Victorian COVID-19 Cancer Network, is encouraging anyone who suspects they may have cancer to seek help. "We've seen very big reductions in diagnoses of cancers in the head and neck areas, so people are not getting to their dentist or to their GPs when they have problems with their mouth and throat that need to be investigated,... so we are very worried about that. "We are anticipating we will see cancers that are much more advanced and a greater number over the next 12 months as well as significant increase in cancer diagnoses." To read the full article visit: https://buff.ly/3d5dUw5 Did you know that there is no screening test for #HNC? Know the signs of #HNC and take action. Early detection of #HNC saves lives.
