25.01.2022 GSP love Ruby girl 8 months old this week & the daily training continues

24.01.2022 Both websites we used to email the ministers demanding answers regarding the politically swayed insult of the 2021 Duck season were promptly shut down-but not before over a thousand of you took action. CEO of the websites David Gravina posted his reason below. Obviously fine to buy pre-killed animals from the supermarket or butcher for food, but not ok to do so from a sustainable wild harvest? The hypocrisy is mind bending... Thanks for those that stood up for hunting and the Australian way.

23.01.2022 Series 7 Update. I’ve received lots of questions about what is happening with S7, fair enough too so here’s where it’s at. I live in metro Melb and have been living with the lockdown since April.???Most of the series was finished prior to covid but the lockdown meant the full series couldn’t be completed, until now. Since the words out, yes I was spotted out of stage 4 and in regional Vic over the weekend. The show and myself have finally been issued a permit from Business Vi...ctoria to travel out of the lockdown zone and complete filming of the incomplete Series 7, which has now missed airing this year and been delayed due to Corona. Good news is we are close to finishing it, and over the next few weeks will complete it and then be able to deliver it to the networks early next year to air on C44, Foxtel, Freeview and MOTV. Yes it was good to get out, honestly I did feel about guilty for being out though, and sorry for everyone else still hanging on, but looks like it’s only a few weeks to go now and everyone will be back in our glorious bush. Cheers, Rob. See more

23.01.2022 I’m on the haircut diet, I lost a kilo in only half an hour! Goodbye mullet, my faithful covid friend.

23.01.2022 2020 certainly has been a lemon, but things are looking up! In the last 24 hours two major good news stories have dropped, La Nina weather event now official and so is a new AcDc Album!

23.01.2022 Who’s keen for a camp, hunt & fish!? My boys are getting by for now with tents in the kitchen and fishing in the pond

23.01.2022 This Kabana kid is cleaning me out!

22.01.2022 Don’t you love it when your buddy walks straight past casties and lets you find them I got this one on film as we just finished unloading for snake island, anchoring up the boat then heading in. I know with borders closed etc it’s tough to plan hunts at the moment, but one awesome local trip you can easily put your hand up for is the Hog Deer Ballot. It’s open now for next season’s draw so head over to the link below to enter. The full snake island adventure is coming up on the next season of Beyond The Divide. https://blondbayballot.eventbookings.com//blond-bay-ballot

21.01.2022 It was so good to be able to open up the doors of Moroka.30 today and have customers back in store. We’ve had been closed for over 3 months under the lockdown. Great to have customers back in sharing all their no hunting stories All will be changing soon though and we will be back out with a vengeance!

20.01.2022 The best screen time you can get. The Bush TV claims another young victim.

20.01.2022 Smokey Monday nights...Made up this solid batch of Venison & Duck Kabana-damn good!

19.01.2022 Hey lockdown Amigos-this was the end result of tonight’s Mexican cook up. Starter: tortilla chips with Guacamole. Entree: Grilled corn on the cob with smoked paprika mayo and Parmesan. Main: Smoked beef soft tacos with lettuce, avocado, lime juice and coriander. Served up with Mojito’s & Sangria

18.01.2022 Hot little session of panic buying at natures supermarket before lockdown curfew last night! Whiting to 44cm and pinkies to 35cm. Awesome night and virtually had the Westernport to ourselves. Perfect brain food to help feed me and my buddy’s families through the next 5 days. Locked down again. Can’t fish or hunt but I’m so glad we’ve Tennis to watch Not happy Dan. PS. This is a sustainable wild harvest, exactly the same as duck hunting, but why does our government only support and promote fishing?

17.01.2022 When these two speak, Andrews should listen. Pretty terrifying when they say no city in the world, apart from the virus source city of Wuhan, had achieved the same suppression goals contained in Mr Andrews’ road map released last Sunday https://www.theaustralian.com.au//5cf65533b11cce3ef23f3cfe

16.01.2022 Great weather for grilling in Melbourne tonight. Good to get back on the butterfly chooks. I find them satisfyingly simple to bone out compared to deer Brined, rubbed and grilled they sure are a favourite in our house over the BBQ months.

16.01.2022 Brilliant piece here by ADA with the sad news we hunters didn’t need. It never ends but be strong, bringing about a cultural change in Australia and acceptance of hunting is a marathon, not a sprint. If you hunt then congratulations as you are automatically entered into the race wether you like it or not. We all need to be advocates.

15.01.2022 Venison burgers on fresh damper buns There’s never any leftovers...

15.01.2022 Morning Sam, Morning Ralph.

15.01.2022 1 more sleep and the Alpine National Park re-opens to hunting. This is what some parts of it were like just before the closure last year. Gully’s lush with feed and Sambar happily bedding on remote gully floors. I’ve had the pack on and been pounding out the cross-trainer these last 4 weeks burning off the festive season junk food and powering up the legs. Hope everyone is as backpack fit and ready as I am Oh but wait....lockdown

14.01.2022 Looking with the eyes but seeing with the nose. A recent local training session & this one was about patience in the bush. Repeated sessions of placework with sit, stay and just peacefully watch the bush. I learnt the hard way that this type of training is essential if you want to be able to stand quietly and look for deer, glass etc with a calm dog beside you. I didn’t do enough of this with my last pointer Angus, and I found it really annoying during stalks when I wanted to sit and glass faces or wait and watch feed areas etc and he would protest by whining and fidgeting, chewing sticks and always trying to sneak off as he wanted to hunt his way not mine!

14.01.2022 Damn it, and I thought I was special! Turns out I’m just a data point in a supercomputer telling the powers at be what they want to see based on how they program it. Hope it boots up faster than my last supercomputer#commodore64 #lockdown

13.01.2022 An active Sambar wallow high in a gully head we recently found on a backpack hunt. Note the sun creeping in from up behind it just through the saddle. There’s a lot more to this pic than a muddy hole. Fresh sign led me into this gully then the fresh marks and game trails lead me out of this wallow, up and over onto a holy grail of a bedding face. I love walking up Sambar in the bush, working off wallows, marks, rubs and sign, interpreting it all with the variables of the weather and the wind of the day and then using your brain, ears, eyes and nose to take you into where you think you can find that needle in the haystack. Deer Stalking doesn’t get any more primal, any better, or any more challenging.

12.01.2022 Happy Valentine’s Day to all the girls out there with the puppy dog eyes that steal our hearts!Ruby

12.01.2022 Back in this week from an epic backpack Sambar hunt, big miles, big smiles and big Stags up close. Doesn’t get much more intense than this guy at only 8m ! Had to put some clips on the TV in at the shop to show the boys otherwise no one would believe me I’d normally hunt high at this time of year but with all the lush feed down low I’d thought I’d change it up and we got lucky, it worked. In our area that’s where the hinds were and that’s exactly where the Stags were. Stay tuned for some awesome up close big sambar stag action coming your way early next year in Series 7.

12.01.2022 Happy new year all. It’s blatantly obvious the struggles we all had through 2020, so Iets move on. I got out for a couple of brilliant backpack hunts in the brief window we had after lockdown and before the park closed. The bush is looking amazing in places thanks to all the rain, the deer are tough to find in some places and common in others, it’s all about the feed and I was loving the challenges that this season presented predicting day to day Sambar movements where I was ...hunting, I’d certainly never witnessed a season like this before. 2021 will bring awesome opportunities for those that make the most of them, there’s plenty to look forward to but no doubt there will be challenges with restrictions etc. I think all we can do is have the hunting gear packed and be ready and if the chance is there then go for it! We never know when and where and for how long the next lockdown will hit. This pic was packing up my solo fly camp on my last morning of my last hunt for 2020 a few weeks back on the Dec 12. I cherished every moment of it and can’t wait to be back real soon. See more

12.01.2022 We are open tomorrow for Saturday trading. I’ll be in from 9am-1pm so come on down and check out the new gear and have a look around, just like the good old days! It’s been so great to have customers back in store this week and hear that everyone is planning trips and hunts and getting keen to make up for lost time. Not long now and we’ll all be back in those Sambar hills that I can assure you are looking greener than ever! cheers, Rob.

12.01.2022 Throughout the lockdown I used the time to sort and analyse my backpacking setup to refine it as best as good and got some awesome results. In the backpack hunts post lockdown I was running the lightest setup I’ve ever had at under 15kg. I also settled on a daily food ration that I reckon I’ll stick with that kept me happy, full of energy, and knocking down the big k’s.

11.01.2022 So pleased for all my regional friends and customers that you are now back in the game this weekend! Here in metro well, the coach says I’m still sitting it out on the bench, so may as well cook up a storm. Fired up the good old General Bradley again (well switched it on) and tonight it’s smoked pulled beef tacos with Mexican on the menu. See you in a few hours. Hope the hunting was good today for those that got out

10.01.2022 Lets give our friend Jeff a hand here as he tries to keep LRD honest through this mess. He's presenting this to parliament tomorrow so please give it a sign. As law abiding firearms owners we are no threat to anyone, and this doesn't change just because of Dan Andrews lockdowns.

10.01.2022 Spent the night bringing in the New Year with family & friends, drinking, eating and strumming. Let’s hope we can get live music back this year. Not playing it and not listening too it sure gets old. P.S how good is a bacon and egg wrap the next day when you need it most

08.01.2022 My buddy and Sambar ninja Paul Boag is doing an online info a training session tonight with ADA. It will be a great night so sign up for free and tune in!

08.01.2022 There’s no cure for it. Pick up a Tele and you’ll get the fever, just like me many years ago#fendertelecaster

06.01.2022 Nice cool Christmas for a change, how’s the National rain forecast coming up! With La Niina clearly now doing its thing, and after the debacle of this years duck season here in Vic, we are certainly expecting a return to normal and a full bag and full length for duck season 2021. @fieldandgameaustralia

06.01.2022 The family Sunday roast is on. This prime chunk of 28 day dry aged Venison topside (Sambar stag) has been injected with brine then rubbed in granulated garlic, sweet paprika, sage, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and brown sugar. It’s now in the smoker and destined for a 4 low and slow cook.

06.01.2022 For those of us with Gundogs, this course is a great investment. I’ve booked in to do it with Ruby, as after knowing the grief of mates that have lost dogs to snakebite, plus a couple of close calls with my last pointer Angus and tiger snakes while deer hunting, I’d rather avoid the stress. It’s $400 and run over 2 days, set 2 weekends apart on Sat 3rd & Sat 13th October in Alexandra. This is a great initiative put together by Ritchie Timms of ADA Upper Goulburn branch and there are a handful of spots still available, so call him on 0433 291 495 to book a place. Naturally this is available to any dog owners, not just hunting dogs. Cheers, Rob.

06.01.2022 Because everyone needs a laugh-it’s good to see that toilet humour isn’t dead. I took this pic of an ad hanging above the urinal in a servo the other day, zoom in on the vegan bit at the bottom At the risk of being politically incorrect I’ll just come straight out and say that its un-Australian to have a vegan pie.#sorrynotsorry

05.01.2022 I’ve been hanging for a pot of draught at the local for 4 months-first trip to the pub out of lockdown tonight, will it still be as good as I remember it?Here’s how it went down

02.01.2022 Because there’s nothing quite as comfy as curling up in the grass for a sleep in the sun with your favourite gun Ruby loves a Nerf in the garden, I’d prefer my Finnlight in a high country basin but hey Soon Ruby dog, Soon...

02.01.2022 I’m ok-but like many Victorians very confused though?? Sounds like we have an imaginary friend in parliament setting our curfew and lockdown rules?

01.01.2022 How do we move forward and correct the narrative on Duck hunting? I’d love you to share this and please share your thoughts and input below. Pictured here: Fresh whiting fillets cooked for my two young boys & caught by my two boys, within size limits and within bag limit. This is a sustainable harvest of wild food. I find it frustratingly strange how virtually no one in Australia has a problem with this and it’s actually encouraged and promoted by the Vic government and open...ly supported by the community and the mainstream media. Most would see me as a great dad for taking my boys fishing spending quality time being outside no screen time etc and my two boys would be little legends for getting their fish and catching a feed etc, etc... Ridiculously hypocritical though, that if I post a pic of a wild shot duck that has the exact same set of circumstances around its procurement and delivery to my families table via sustainable harvest, that its unacceptable to many and murder and slaughter according to some? Do we have a genuine and serious problem with lack of ducks in Victoria or do we have a genuine and serious problem with hypocritical double standards associated with sustainable harvest of wild food? There is one answer and we all know it. Of course I know the answer too, but maybe we need to forget about that and concentrate on trying to fix the question? Unfortunately it’s extremely simple, but at the same time ridiculously complex. @fieldandgameaustralia @fallas_fowl_photos @australiandeer @ssaanational @beretta.australia @duckandquailhuntingaustralia @bloodorigins
