25.01.2022 Reception has been a bit dodgy for the last few days but we’ve been having the best time on this current road trip. So much to share but first - Cobbold Gorge. We had been wanting to visit this place for a long time & it was great to finally get here! It gets booked up pretty quickly for the school holidays & when we booked about 3 months ago, we were only able to secure a self-contained campsite. We were actually really happy with this site. It wasn’t too far from all the ac...tion of the village & the gravel sites in this area kept everything a lot cleaner. At this time of year however, I would still try & get a powered site as it was pretty hot, averaging about 34 degrees each day. Other options for campsites are en-suite campsites (we felt these were a bit far away from everything though), powered campsites, & a variety of different cabins. There is a shop containing basic essentials and souvenirs at reception, a laundry, camp kitchen & a great amenities block. There’s a bistro offering breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks (there is a meal plan available) but the highlight would have to be the infinity pool overlooking the dam & acres of beautiful bushland with its own swim up pool bar. Such a great place to retreat from the heat of the day & the kids loved night swimming too. This whole area adds a great vibe to the place. We ended up eating at the restaurant both nights as we just enjoyed spending time in the pool & chatting to other campers. Even though Cobbold Gorge was pretty much booked out, they don’t pack the campsites & people in, so while it was quite busy, it wasn’t crazy which was great. Now on to the tours. You really should book your tours at the time of booking your campsites/accomodation. They book out quite quickly as numbers on the tours are very limited. Once again, they don’t pack them in which is great for everyone. We were able to book the Gorge Tour but missed out on booking the Paddle Board Tour which looks amazing! Will have to return one day for this. Apart from the tours there’s a few great walking tracks you can do and at sunset, you can take the short drive to Quartz Blow Lookout (you can even pre-order a cheese platter from the bistro to take with you). We really enjoyed our stay & the kids did not want to leave. Neither did we

25.01.2022 A quick getaway to Teewah Beach & Double Island Point this weekend. The fastest way to get there is via Noosa North Shore Ferries at Tewantin. The ferry departs every 10 minutes between 5:30am - 10:20pm Sunday to Thursday & 5:30am - 12:20am Friday & Saturday.... The crossing only takes about 5 minutes & is $8 per standard vehicle each way (double that if pulling a trailer or caravan). Bookings are not required but the ferry is cash only. Once you’re over to the other side, it’s about a 10 minute drive to the 3rd cutting where you drive down to the beach. It should go without saying that a 4WD vehicle is required for beach driving & make sure you reduce your tyre pressures before you drive onto the beach. We normally drop ours to about 20psi but it depends on your vehicle. Drive for about 20-30 minutes (depending on the tide & how soft the sand is) along the beach before you arrive at the Teewah Beach camping zone. Normal road rules apply. You must book your driving permit & camping through Qld Parks before you arrive - https://parks.des.qld.gov.au//cooloola/camping/teewah-beach Our camping fees were approx $27 for 1 night for our family & the driving permit was $35 (valid for 1 week). We were one child down this weekend, as she stayed at home to attend a birthday party. What a difference it makes when you take one out of the equation - so peaceful We all missed her though! Simple beach camping for us this weekend. We just took our OZtrail Australia Fast Frame Cruiser 240 tent, threw our double swag & pillows in and we were all set! We also took along our new OZtrail Ironside 3pce Recreation Table Set (which all clicks in together & is lightweight) & our OZtrail Outback Cooker. Both worked a treat & were easy to set up! The Outback Cooker is great for cooking in the wind as the heat is retained in the belly of the cooker. It also kept us warm as it was a chilly night. A great option if you’re camping in a place where open campfires are not permitted. The following day we drove further down the beach and cut across a short inland track to Double Island Point, to show the kids the beautiful coloured sands of Rainbow Beach. This side is usually sheltered & calm showing off the beautiful clear blue water to all who visit. It’s a popular spot for swimming, fishing, sand dune tobogganing & jet skis. Note, you can access this beach from the Rainbow Beach township coming from the opposite direction, but you will need to time it right with the tides!

25.01.2022 . Sometimes there’s so much more to see if you take the route less travelled. The walk up to the old saw mill at Cougal Cascades is bitumen all the way, but if you come back via the river bed it’s much more fun! Good grippy shoes are a must for all that rock hopping! There are 4 lots of waterfalls that make up the cascades & some great little waterholes for swimming. It’s a great place to spend the morning followed by a picnic or delicious lunch at Pasture & Co on the way home! See our stories for more of today’s adventure

21.01.2022 Handy for those of you who like camping at Teewah!

20.01.2022 What a great day out at Summer Land Camels on Sunday. It’s only an hour’s drive from Brisbane & is Australia’s largest Camel Dairy & Training Centre. We booked in for the Tour & Taste Camel Farm Experience & it was excellent (pre bookings essential). We learnt so much about the camels, visited the dairy, saw heaps of baby camels (including some gorgeous 1 day old newborns), learnt about all the products they make on the farm - skincare, cured meats, cheeses, gelato & even vo...dka! We finished off the tour with a taste of camel milk, feta & camel salami. Afterwards we had lunch at the Homestead Cafe where we enjoyed nachos with camel chilli & grabbed a camel sausage roll to take home to Ben (who had to work this weekend). Camel rides are also available but we ran out of time! The kids had so much fun feeding & getting up close to the friendly camels. A day to remember for sure! See more

19.01.2022 We have snuck off to @daydreamislandresort to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary. We feel so guilty leaving the kids behind & we miss them of course, but we also think it’s important to occasionally take some time out for just us. The kids are loving having their Nannas to visit & it will give us a chance to recharge our batteries & come home relaxed & ready to get back into it! . Still feel guilty though .... . #daydreamislandresort #thewhitsundays #tropicalqueensland #daydreamisland #islandholiday #explorequeensland #travelaustralia #whitsundayislands #whitsundays #discoverqueensland #visitaustralia #greatbarrierreef #islandlife See more

19.01.2022 A fun few days at Neurum Creek Bush Retreat A great Winter camping spot just under an 1 hour & 30 minutes drive from Brisbane. As the name suggests, it runs alongside Neurum Creek & is in a beautiful area right next to D’Aguilar National Park. Campfires are permitted & as it’s school holidays, there was a movie screening each night, a coffee van, wine tasting, an ice-cream van & wood fired pizzas. Amenities consist of hot showers as well as flushing toilets & the long drop compostable variety in the more remote campsites. There’s a small shop at the office selling firewood, ice & other items you may have left at home. There is also a fenced off bike track circuit for kids & some beautiful walking tracks up behind the camping area. It’s dog-friendly too! A great place to relax for a few days

18.01.2022 Just returned home from a fun-filled long weekend at Habitat Noosa A beautiful award winning ecocamp on the banks of Lake Cootharaba. Habitat Noosa have their own on-site micro brewery, restaurant & gelato bar, great amenities, glamping tents & lots of beautiful wildlife. Can’t wait to go back! Full post to come but in the meantime, see more in our Instagram stories @bigandlittleadventures

15.01.2022 Looks like a fun weekend & all for a good cause. Can’t wait!

15.01.2022 A freshwater, inland lake which means no sharks or stingers! The water is so blue & clear & the sand is so fine & white. It wows us every time we visit! We reckon Lake McKenzie is one of Australia’s most beautiful natural wonders. What do you think?... To see more of our visit to Fraser Island, follow us on Instagram @bigandlittleadventures

15.01.2022 We spent the long weekend at Imbil Camping Retreat approximately 2 hours from Brisbane. We had been wanting to check this place out for a while & as soon as the the People’s Long Weekend was confirmed, we got in contact straight away & locked in 3 waterfront sites. These sites are great (we picked 12, 13 & 14) as they are spacious & you can’t be hemmed in by other campers. They give you a great view of Yabba Creek & you can keep an eye on the kids playing down at the water a...t the same time. These sites are unpowered and cost $150 for 3 nights for our family of 5. Powered sites are also available on the property, but they are not waterfront sites. An off-shoot of the Mary River, there is a lot of water in Yabba Creek, so it’s more like a river than a creek. Lots of water for kayaking & canoeing in both directions, great for swimming & just floating off the gravelly beach. Fishing is also permitted, though we didn’t give it a go this trip. There is a large rock that the kids just loved swimming out to. They played out there for hours... when they weren’t riding their bikes! We hardly saw them this weekend, only returning to our camp to refuel their bellies! The grounds are tidy & well kept with an abundance of Jacarandas & other shady trees. The facilities are new & well maintained & include hot showers & toilets, camp kitchen, rubbish disposal & a dump point. The Managers - Mark & Rachelle, are friendly & welcoming & stock ice, firewood & ice creams up at the office. The campground is pretty much right in the lovely little town of Imbil - just a short walk away from a bakery, pub, general store, takeaway shop & a skate park. There is also a local market every Sunday at 8am. Campfires are allowed in firepits only & Imbil Camping Retreat is dog friendly. Our verdict? A great weekend getaway with friends. Having the waterfront sites definitely enhanced our experience. Our kids loved this country retreat & are already asking when we can return! 14.01.2022 Here’s a segment we featured in on 7 News tonight about state border crossings for the school holidays. We weren’t aware we could currently travel interstate for leisure, but more than happy to stay put in Queensland for now!

07.01.2022 Some of the best memories are made when camping with friends. Whenever we tell the kids about our next camping adventure, they always ask who we are going with. Exploring, campfire chats, bike riding, games, swimming, going to sleep & then waking up & doing it all again the next day... For them, it’s the ultimate play date! For us, we love seeing the excitement on their faces each time we’re preparing for a trip & we love that each time we go, they are learning more skil...ls in the great outdoors as well as making memories that will last a lifetime! 05.01.2022 Day 1 of our current road trip adventure to North Queensland First up, we explored Blackdown Tableland National Park which is steeped in the rich, cultural heritage of the Ghungalu people. There are lots of little tracks to explore with varying degrees of difficulty, but the 4km return track to Gudda Gamoo (Rainbow Falls) was our favourite!... This little oasis can be found at the end of an unmarked track off to the right, when you reach the top of the 240 steps leading down to the bottom of the falls. Thanks to advice from 4 boys and a caravan we unhitched our caravan & left it behind the servo in Dingo which is about 30 mins drive from the national park. While you can tent camp in Blackdown Tablelands, the road is not recommended for caravans. Follow us on Instagram @bigandlittleadventures for more of this trip!

05.01.2022 This looks delicious! Will have to give it a try on our next camping weekend.

04.01.2022 Today we went hunting for this beautiful cave on Mt Maroon. It’s not an easy hike & it was tricky to find, but worth it for these stunning views. The kids managed really well, but it is steep & a bit slippery so good walking/hiking shoes are essential. There is no defined track for most of the way to the cave & there are no signs. You really feel like you are an explorer or hunting for treasure. The kids loved it! There’s an occasional cairn or white tape marker which lets y...ou know you’re heading in the right direction, but we really recommend using an app like Wikiloc so you don’t get lost! It took us about a hour to get up to the cave which included stopping and consulting our map to make sure we were still on track. It’s an uphill bush bash most of the way there & of course, downhill on the way back. To get there, type Cotswold Rd, Maroon into your maps & drive til the end of the road - you’ll see the entrance to the Mt Maroon Summit Route off to your right. We didn’t climb to the summit today but definitely keen to go back & do it another day. Don’t forget your water bottles & snacks. The kids were dying for food by the time we got to the cave - but what’s new, right? Follow us on Instagram @bigandlittleadventures for more!

03.01.2022 Some great ideas for some must see destinations on a Brisbane to Townsville road trip. Thank you Inspire Family Travel - Australia for including us in your guide - it’s an honour!

02.01.2022 We’ve had a great weekend checking out Moogerah Lakeside Bush Retreat for the first time. Under new ownership, it is quiet & peaceful & only just over an hour’s drive from Brisbane. As well as camping, Moogerah Lakeside offer bunk cabins, bathroom & hot shower facilities & a camp kitchen. There is a 3 bedroom self-contained cottage available for booking, campfires are permitted & it’s also dog-friendly. Firewood, ice & live bait are available for purchase. ... They have onsite canoe, kayak & tinnie hire so we hired a tinnie & took it out onto the lake for the afternoon. We fished, explored & stayed on the water til the sun set We’re excited for all the improvements the new owners have in store at Moogerah Lakeside Bush Retreat & we look forward to heading back to check them out later in the year.
