25.01.2022 Wow! What a year 2020 has been, huh? As a commercial tour operator this has been a super challenging year for us. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, and so with the New Year in mind, now is the time to start planning your next epic mountain bike adventure with Big Mountain. As you can imagine, we have been closely monitoring the situation regarding travel within Australia and abroad and have the following to report. Derby - The borders are set to open on October 26t...h. We are opening a new store in Derby and this is a prime opportunity for us to expand on our tour operations in Tasmania with a particular focus on Derby & St Helens. We will open a showroom & workshop on the main street and will offer bike hire & small group tours e.g. 1-4 people, in addition to our standard group tours (8+ people) also. The trail fairies have been super busy over the break and there are new trails on offer in both Derby & St Helens. Rotorua - Talk continues to take place around a travel bubble between Australia & NZ but from tomorrow, Kiwis can travel to NSW & NT without having to quarantine. However, NZ has not opened its borders to Aussies just yet. But Aussies will be able to travel to NZ without the need to quarantine around Xmas time. And so, tours to Rotorua in the New Year are a very real possibility. Colorado - Of the three tour destinations, this is the one with the most uncertainty at this stage. It's likely that travel to the USA will be possible towards the end of 2021, about the same time that a vaccine is said to become available. This is a situation that we will continue to monitor and report on. Current 2021 Tour Dates: March 5-8, Women's Derby Tour, 3 of 8 places left March 15-21, Rotorua Tour, sold out April 16-19, Women's Derby Tour, 1 of 8 places left Aug 30-Sep 7, Colorado Tour, 3 of 10 places left At this stage we're looking to add tour dates to Derby from Jan-May. And to Rotorua from Sep-Dec. If you're interested in joining a tour, or you'd like to book a private group tour, then please contact us ASAP because once the borders do open, flights, accommodation etc. will fill up fast!

The ideal candidate is an experienced bicycle technician with a working knowledge of e-Bikes, electronic drivetrains, & servicing mountain bike suspension. Greeting customers who enter the shop. Be involved in stock control and management. Assisting shoppers to find the goods and products they are looking for. Giving advice and guidance on product selection to customers. Balancing cash registers with receipts. Dealing with customer refunds. Keeping the store tidy and clean, including dusting, sweeping, and mopping floors. Responsible dealing of customer complaints. Working within established guidelines. Responsible for security within the store and being on the lookout for shoplifters and fraudulent credit cards etc. Receiving and storing the delivery of stock. 16.01.2022 The latest regarding the easing of TAS border restrictions... Easing of Border restrictions with low risk jurisdictions planned for October 26. The Tasmanian Government has announced that it will look to easing border restrictions with low risk Australian jurisdictions from October 26.... Low risk jurisdictions are determined by Public Health based on a number of factors which include the period of time they have gone with low or no numbers of cases and the lack of community transmission occurring in those jurisdictions. At this stage, low risk states include South Australia, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, the ACT and possibly NSW. The COVID-19 risk in all States and Territories continues to be monitored and the easing of restrictions is dependent on the situation in those jurisdictions. Current restrictions and requirements remain in place until that time. 11.01.2022 Big Mountain are opening another store in Derby. As many of you are already aware, we have been running guided tours to Derby, Tasmania since 2018. And as anyone who has ever travelled to Derby will know, it is a magical part of the country. The Blue Derby trail network offers some of the best mountain biking on the planet and so for us, as mountain bike enthusiasts, it was only a matter of time before Big Mountain would establish a local presence at this iconic mountain bik...e destination. All going to plan we will be open in the New Year. Our core business will be mountain bike hire, service & repairs. We will also offer a select range of parts and accessories, including apparel available in store. And we will continue to offer visitors guided tours of the Blue Derby & St Helens trail networks. 11.01.2022 Update regarding our Mt Joyce Shuttle Day. On August 29th the QLD government announced a list of restrictions in light of the recent increase in new cases of COVID-19. In short, a maximum of 10 people can gather publicly in a restricted area regardless of whether people are members of the same household or not. NB: Well have two groups of 10 people on the day. ... Mountain bike shuttle operators around SEQ are continuing to operate i.e. its business as usual for HVAP, Boomers, etc. According to the QLD government website you must practice physical distancing as much as possible and; wash your hands regularly with soap and water, and use alcohol-based sanitiser, and avoid hugs, kisses and handshakes, and wherever possible keep at least 1.5 metres away, two big steps, from people you dont live with - this will be impossible to achieve on the shuttle rig of course, but its a short ride to the summit (less than 15 mins). Facemasks could be worn on the ride up also? At the end of the day were trying to be responsible and run a fun but safe event for everyone. And so if youre unwell, please stay away. If youre not comfortable with participating in this event, then thats fine also. Honestly, were more than happy to follow your lead. We can either proceed as outlined above or postpone the event?
