25.01.2022 Thank you to those who visited Bilk’s new space to view Full Circle last weekend. It was really wonderful to catch-up after the challenges of this year. For those who didn’t make it, we will be open every Friday and Saturday 11am-5pm until the 20th December. Helen has also promised to have more brooches from her bushfire collection finished this weekend (no pressure @aitkenkuhnen ). ... Pictured is one of the beautiful brooches by Helen Aitken-Kuhnen which sold on the weekend (much to the disappointment of many). Helen’s new collection relates to the recent bushfires in Australia, the colours of smoke, ash, fire and regeneration. This year Helen and Johannes became volunteers with the local Rural Fire Service (RFS) and we are all so proud of them completing the hard assessment process. In becoming a volunteer in the RFS, Helen has heard recounts of what happened on the fire-front. These pieces not only express Helen’s own personal experiences, but also those who have shared their experiences at the fire front. Our first exhibition will showcase new pieces from; Brenda Ridgewell, Carlier Makigawa, Chris Bahng, Cinnamon Lee, Claire McArdle, Daniel DiCaprio, Helen Aitken-Kuhnen, Johannes Kuhnen, Julie Blyfield, Kath Inglis, Larah Nott, Linda Hughes, Marian Hosking, Melissa Cameron, Mio Kuhnen, Nick Bastin, Sean O’Connell, Taweesak M...olsawat and Vicki Mason. Please join us for the opening weekend on the 21 and 22 November 2020 11.00 am to 5.00 pm. Following the opening weekend the gallery hours will be Friday & Saturday 11.00 am to 5.00 pm or by appointment until the 20 December 2020. Purchases made during this exhibition can be taken home on the day. The exhibition will be made available online and pieces can be purchased through the website for those who cannot make it to our new space. This will be a masked event, with disposable masks and hand sanitiser available at the gallery (and social distancing). 03.01.2022 Nick Bastin’s brooch ‘The Path Is Closed’ contemplates the idea of portals, a doorway between two different places; the actual world and another that is imagined, untouchable and fantastic. What if the brooch could be a wormhole, or rather, an object that delineates a gap where things may slip from our world into another? This brooch, like historical miniature portraits, centres on a subject, however in this case, one that is a potential temporal space. Perhaps there are thi...ngs that have slipped through the wormhole from the other side, now disguised or merged with quotidian objects such as paperclips and pencil sharpeners, unnoticed in the commonplace landscapes of writing desks and handbags.
