25.01.2022 I remember once, years ago being acutely embarrassed by mispronouncing the word halcyon.

24.01.2022 I have always assumed that every student has an auditory processing delay and teach accordingly.

23.01.2022 As is a dyslexic child.

23.01.2022 Bill Spooner's coaching Academy is now online through Zoom. We offer face to face tuition in maths yr1 to yr 12. If you are thinking of online tuition, (particularly if you live in FNQ) please choose, my teachers and I. We are all long time local Cairns teachers. We are a Cairns business, we are not a foreign owned or interstate owned franchise. My wife and I are parents, as are our teachers. Like you we have kids attending local schools.... Please stay local. We are all in this together.

22.01.2022 Some very helpful stuff here.

19.01.2022 We are deeply saddened to report that Sir Ken Robinson, creativity expert and TED speaker extraordinaire, passed away on Friday. His talk on schools and creativ...ity was first published in 2006 and remains the most viewed TED Talk of all time. Watch his full talk here: http://t.ted.com/d2XdrJS

17.01.2022 We could say a lot about this post. As an Independent Children's Lawyer and one who often tosses and turns in my sleep, about our recommendations, the Professionals writing their Reports have to listen.

16.01.2022 CUT the strings before throwing out. Reaching as many people as possible: please pass on....

15.01.2022 It did for me. Olga Valese my grade 7 teacher at Edge State School. She changed my life. Because of my dyslexia I struggle at school. She saw that I was good at art. I went on to become an art teacher.

14.01.2022 And to the those crazy teacher's who change lives.

14.01.2022 Yes, thank you. Thank you to all our teachers and school staff across the country. You have been doing an incredible job in very difficult circumstances.

14.01.2022 For young people 14 to 2h. Great idea.

14.01.2022 True. Never give up.

10.01.2022 I think some parents will be feeling like this.

10.01.2022 Spook is social distancing on the kitchen sink. He has been there for days. On another note Bill Spooner's Coaching Academy is now online. I conducted my first classes yesterday, with four students in one group and five in another. It went brilliantly! The kids, of course took to it like ducks to water. They loved it and want to keep going over the school holidays. What happens next term is anybody's guess.... Mind you it was hard yakka. I have a virtual white board and I sent the kids their lessons beforehand. How teachers are going to manage large classes I have no idea. At this stage I am doing primary and junior secondary maths and the plan is to get my teachers up to speed ASAP. Take care, everybody. Look for the positives. My hope is that when we come through this, we will come into a better world.

09.01.2022 IS IT DYSLEXIA OR A VISUAL PROCESSING DISORDER? The picture below explains the differences between these two things that are often considered "the same". Not everyone with Irlen Syndrome (a visual processing disorder) has the symptoms of dyslexia. The picture is relatively small.. so to see it as a larger image go to the link below The link below will take you to the original image on the Irlen Syndrome Foundation page https://www.irlensyndrome.org/irlen-vs-dyslexia/... 09.01.2022 Many parents that I communicate with are confused.

09.01.2022 The dreaded report card.

08.01.2022 How would you like your performance at work be a process of constant scrutiny and testing? Kids today are under enormous pressure not only from school but also the society at large.

08.01.2022 Mandatory; I would say.

04.01.2022 Something that I say to parents almost every day as well as to take the spotlight off the things that the education system deems to be important and put it on the things that the child is good at.

04.01.2022 Remember, we are set to deliver our service online.

04.01.2022 The teacher is writing hieroglyphics on the board and speaking Swahili and it looks like everybody understands except me.

03.01.2022 Just a heads up. If necessary, we are set and and prepared to go online.

03.01.2022 Imagine making it all the way through primary school not knowing how to read or write. Imagine the fear of turning up each day, hoping and praying the teacher d...oesn't ask you a question because you know you're going to get laughed at. We talk to three dyslexic teenagers from Perth about what it's like growing up with the learning disability. Their responses will make you cry, melt your hearts and inspire Rebecca Carmody Claire Borello Julian Robins

02.01.2022 Love this simple graphic.
