25.01.2022 The sun is out and the Historic Vehicle Day is filling up on Bindoon Oval. Come down we will be here until 5pm. Gold coin donation.

25.01.2022 It's Museum Week this week and as today focuses on #MWCity we thought we'd share with you an advertisment from the 13 December 1943 in the West Australian thanks to #trove. When fuel shortages hit Chittering during the Second World War H. F Martin (also known as Ted) established a bus service from Chittering into Midland and Perth. Running from 1943 the service continued helping the people of the shire travel into the city until 1947. To find out more about the bus service and life in the shire read, Chittering: from exploration to shire by Bruce Buchanan. We have a copy at the Museum so feel free to say hi and have a browse. 21.01.2022 It has been a while since we posted... As Bindoon Historic Vehicle day approaches we thought we would share with you some of the inner workings of our Rolls Royce engine taken from a 1950 Austin Champ.

21.01.2022 Come and visit us for fascinating insights into the history of life within Chittering. The museum is open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 10pm to 3pm. We look forward to seeing you soon.

21.01.2022 All this week museums around the world have been celebrating #museumweek. As today's focus is on #TravelsMW, we would like to share with you an item from our collection that has done a bit of traveling. Quite a few items in the museum's collection have traveled distances and/or enabled the people of chittering to travel. However, since the overall theme of the week is #WomenMW we thought we would focus on this c. 1922 Singer "66"; an item that would have been used primarily... by the women of the house, and one that has been restored by a woman, Toppie Dickerson. This c. 1922 treadle sewing machine was manufactured by the American Singer co. in its plant in Kilbowe Scotland and over the years has lost much of its trademark 'lotus' detailing. Although its journey has ended with us, what the sewing machine remains, is an example of American economic expansion within Australia, and of the global nature of manufacturing during the early twentieth century. #singersewingmachine #singer66 #history #chitteringshire #bindoonmuseum #museumstagram #australia See more

20.01.2022 Anyone remember Dino's Pizza in Subiaco? It's amazing what you find in old books! Digging through an old gardening book from the 80s and we found this $10 meal ticket. Valid until September 1987... Do you think they will still honour it? #perth #perthhistory #socialhistory #bindoonmuseum #chittering

18.01.2022 https://www.instagram.com/p/BSyo78LA7Yp/ The Bindoon Museum is now on Instagram. Once a week we will update the feed with an item from the region's history and a fact about the item. This week it's radio.

16.01.2022 Museum week draws to a close today and in line with the theme heritage here is the museum's restored 1952 Chamberlian. We believe that preserving the history of the district is important, and as Bindoon is largely agricultural we have a variety of tractors on display. The photograph shows our 1952 Chamberlain Model 40KA. Designed by "Bob" Chamberlain in 1938 and manufactured in WA, the 1952 Chamberlain not only shows how farming equipment has changed over the last 65 years, but is also an example of WA's manufacturing history. The museum's Chamberlain is on loan and has been lovingly restored thanks to Rob Bathgate. #MuseumWeek #HeritageMW #bindoon #chitteringshire

11.01.2022 The Museum has begun research for an exhibition in 2019 on life in Chittering during and directly after the Second World War and we're appealing for members of the community past and present to help us out. If you have any memories, photographs or information about Chittering, Lower Chittering, Bindoon, Muchea, Wannamal or Mooliabeenee between 1939 - 1948 we'd love to hear from you. You can contact us via email at [email protected], or alternatively send us a Facebook message.

09.01.2022 https://www.instagram.com/p/BUN8UbTg_Ic/ Who still enjoys the sound of a good vinyl record? Here is another technology from the past. It's a portable gramophone... possibly manufactured around the mid-1930s. This particular gramophone was sold by Nicholson's music house in Perth and was marketed as a piece of technology that meant music was no longer confined to the living room.
