22.01.2022 Tooth discoloration is a natural process and happens to everyone over time. Tooth discoloration is caused when the outer layer of the tooth (the enamel) is stained. Causes of extrinsic staining include food and drink, things like red wine, coffee, soy and tomato sauce, or berries can all stain your teeth. Smoking and tobacco chewing also lead to extrinsic staining... What can I do to improve the appearance of my teeth?... A good oral hygiene routine consists of brushing at least twice a day for a minimum of 2 minutes with a soft toothbrush. As well, it is recommended to floss at least once a day, making sure to clean the line between tooth and gums and between the teeth. Also insuring your keeping up to date with your 6-monthly dental check-up and cleans. This gives your dentist the opportunity to maintain the unnecessary staining of the teeth. If you're teeth require more treatment regarding the staining than we also offer in chair teeth whitening. We are a family friendly clinic and are open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm, with a Saturday morning once a fortnight. Call us at 9576 0587 for any enquiries or bookings.

22.01.2022 Enjoy the long weekend and hopefully this lovely weather lasts.

20.01.2022 Most of us know that our toothbrushes arent meant to last forever and will need to be replaced, and it may be more often that you would think. Your toothbrush is the first line of defense against the bacteria that can cause gum disease, tooth decay and bad breath. It is recommended by the ADA (Australian Dental Association) to change your toothbrush atleast every three to four months. Another way to judge if you are ready for a new toothbrush is by checking the bristles. Whe...n you see the bristles bending over, it is time to buy a new tooth brush. It is also wise to replace your toothbrush after you have been unwell. Your trusty toothbrush can harbor bacteria and any virus for days, you can risk re-infecting yourself.

Drinking sugar sweetened beverages can significantly contribute to tooth decay. 16.01.2022 TOOTH DECAY Occurs when plaque, the sticky substance that forms on teeth, combines with the sugars and/or starches of the food you eat. This combination produces acids that attack tooth enamel. You can get cavities at any agethey aren't just for children. As you age, you can develop cavities as your tooth enamel erodes. ... Dry mouth due to age or medications can also lead to cavities. The best way to prevent tooth decay is by brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and going to your regular dental check-ups. Eating healthy foods and avoiding snacks and drinks that are high in sugar are also ways to prevent decay. Your dentist can recommend further treatments that may help reduce your risk. We are a family friendly clinic and are open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm, with a Saturday morning once a fortnight. Call us at 9576 0587 for any enquiries or bookings.

15.01.2022 Did you know that plaque is actually soft and is a buildup of bacteria, saliva, and food debris. You dont need to brush hard to remove it, just make sure you angle your toothbrush towards the gum line (where plaque grows) and brush in small circular motions, never a back-and-forth motion. Keep it gentle. If you have a electric tooth-brush, all you need to do is angle it towards the gum line and let it rotate. Move from tooth to tooth with gentle pressure. ... Once the build up becomes hardened, brushing will not remove it. A dental clean is needed to removed the hardened tartar.

15.01.2022 -Bindoon Dental Clinic- (08) 9576 0587 Statistics reveal that a whopping 74% of us have had a tooth extracted! When we consider how often we use our teeth and what for, it is amazing just how important a role they play in our lives.... Did you know that if you have a missing tooth either lost in an accident or due to dental disease it can affect your health, the way you eat and speak as well as your appearance? Teeth either side of the gap may move, causing them to fall out of line and become crooked, or the gap may be difficult to clean and cause decay and eventual bone loss. We offer teeth replacement options including implants to get your smile in line and beaming for all to see! Dont hesitate to give us a call on 9576 0587 today to book a consultation!

15.01.2022 The toothbrush is 5,000 years old, in various forms. Ancient civilizations used "chew sticks", a thin stick with a frayed end. Over time the toothbrush has evolved, the handles have been know to be made from bone, woof or ivory and the bristles made of animal hair including hogs and boars for their stiff hair. The modern toothbrush is made of nylon bristles and was invented in 1938.

15.01.2022 Diagnosis of Periodontal Disease. The Dentist will check your oral health by examining your teeth and gums, noting whether there is plaque and calculus present. Fillings are examined to check that they are well-shaped and smooth, and are not loose or contributing to gum disease. The Dentist will check for any change in the shape, size, appearance and texture of the gums which can indicate gum disease. A periodontal probe may be used to help identify areas where gums may blee...d easily, have recessed, or where pockets may have developed. The dentist may also check each tooth for movement, as gum disease can cause teeth to shift position or become loose. An x-ray examination can be needed to check the bone around each tooth to assess how healthy the bone is. Always make sure to advise your dentist of any problems you have or have had with your teeth in the past and keep a updated Medical History. This is important as medical conditions and medications can affect your dental health. See more

13.01.2022 Dental Caries Dental caries aka decay is a process that happens when the enamel and dentine of a tooth becomes softened over time in response to the daily acidic attacks resulting from eating and drinking. Over time, the acid makes a cavity (hole) in the tooth that can compromise the structure and health of a tooth. Cavities and the decay process can be prevented by working closely with your dental professional and following their plan for you. ... Regular check-ups help to catch decay early and prevent something small, becoming something big. Enamel is the hard, protective outer coating of the tooth. 11.01.2022 Everything you eat and drink can have a major effect on the health of your teeth and gums. Tooth decay is a diet-related disease that commonly develops in response to our consumption of sugar. Sugar from the foods and drinks we consume is taken up by decay-causing bacteria that live on the surfaces of our teeth. These bacteria process the sugar, turning it into acid which is then excreted on the surface of our teeth where it draws out minerals from the tooth. If this proc...ess happens over and over, without any effort to prevent or stop the disease process, it can eventually result in the formation of tooth decay. Regular Checkups help to maintain dental health. It is recommended to see your dentist every 6 months for a Checkup and Dental Clean. Please call us at 9576 0587 for any enquiries or bookings. We are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5pm. And Saturday mornings once each fortnight.

04.01.2022 What Is Dental Plaque? Plaque is a sticky film that forms on your teeth every day: You know, that slippery/fuzzy coating you feel. When plaque isn’t regularly removed, it can accumulate minerals from your saliva and harden into an off-white or yellow substance called tartar. Although an attentive flossing may dislodge some tartar buildup, you’ll probably need to visit a dentist to rid yourself of all of it.... Plaque that has hardened into tartar will have to be removed with a in-chair dental clean. Call us at 9576 0587 to book in your check-up and clean.

Treatment may involve : The removal of built up plaque and calculus using dental instruments... Scaling, when the tooth surface is cleaned to remove plaque and calculus above the gum line and in shallow pockets below the gum line. Root Planning, when there are deposits of plaque and calculus on the tooth roots and in deeper pockets beneath the gum line and are removed using instruments, and can be done with local anesthetics . Replacement or adjustment of fillings that are contributing to the gum disease. Instruction on how to improve oral hygiene, including proper brushing and flossing techniques . It is also best to quit smoking if you are a smoker. It increases the risk of gum disease and reduces the chances of successful treatment. In some cases a course of antibiotics may be beneficial and you may require multiple appointments for treatment. If you do not complete the treatment, you risk the gum disease getting worse which can lead to tooth loss. See more
