25.01.2022 We're getting ready for round 2! With one protocol investigated with the LBP we've got two more critically endangered species to try and investigate potential molecular ecology surveying techniques for, the Greater Glider ( native Flying Possum) and Bar Galaxia (native fish). We'll have until the 1st of June to explore the role eDNA sampling might play in monitoring their presence! If you're interested in helping definitely show up on Mondays and Thursday's at BioQ between 5pm to 9pm or PM us! Taking previous learnings from the Leadbeater Possum surveying, we're hoping to get started asap. This work would not be possible without @scienceforall.world and the @royalsocietyvic . 16.01.2022 Major developments re 3d printing in Australia for COVID19 PPE requests. www.covidsos.com.au has done a fantastic job getting getting major uni fabrication labs on board to start producing face sheild head bands and mask adapters using 3d printing machines. Meanwhile, a call out out from Brisbane has just occured specificly asking for the face shields here, drop off points included. https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/herston-biofa//3d-ppe If you have a 3d printer and are in QLD, consider printing today, likewise, if you know someone who has these, please spread the word! It is likely this will pop up in the other states!

14.01.2022 Really excited for how this tardigrade incubator is turning out! Pumps for food, water, waste and air. Closer and closer to tardigrades on tap <3 Will upload all stl, svg, py, and ino files once this is done. Goal is to give sea monkeys a run for their money Waiting on stepper motors and a few more bits before we're finished but it should be able to grow them soon enough.

14.01.2022 Ever wondered how laxatives could transform your... transformation protocols? Matt at BioQuisitive did! On the hunt for economical alternatives to Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)4000 used in many transformation protocols (where you move DNA into the cell of an organism) he found Movicol. Turns out the over the counter laxative Movicol's main ingredient is PEG 3350 not far off from PEG 4000 and the results speak for themselves. Left column plates were transformed using Laxative and right hand column using standard CaCl2 protocol. Just be sure to read the MSDS In case of ingestion... and stock up on TP...if you can #covid19

13.01.2022 Hi Educators, if you have time, The Phoenix School Program would love your input on how they can better help you either through gifting free lab equipment or providing other services! They're holding a zoom catch up on the 1st of October 6pm :) <3 help the science!

11.01.2022 We are hosting a tutorial on how to design species specific primer this Friday! Open for everyone to learn and get involved! Don't forget to sign up to your FREE Benchling account for the event! https://benchling.com/signup/welcome

08.01.2022 Pretty amazing to see this project check off a new milestone after years of hard work at the Thought Emporium. Synthetic spider silk with biomineralisation properties made from yeast.

08.01.2022 Really hope this test gets some attention as a potential alternative. Researchers have used it time and time again in monitoring other pathogens, and It could drastically reduce the pressure on existing supply chain for standard testing reagents, be faster, and just as accurate. Great to be collaborating with Biofoundry and BioBase: OpenBio QLD on this one! https://www.abc.net.au//amateur-scientist-making/12084974

06.01.2022 Bioquisitive is working with @biofoundry And Biobase to investigate new and cheaper diagnostic tests to identify covid19 infections. Using RT-LAMP, we're hoping to validate faster and cheaper tests! Stay tuned and follow along here https://foundry.bio/coronavirus-covid-19/

04.01.2022 Join us in half an hour on Zoom for our Primer Design workshop! https://unimelb.zoom.us/j/207050946

03.01.2022 To address the shortage of COVID19 tests we're working alongside Biofoundry and BioBase: OpenBio QLD to examine alternative accurate, cheap, and easy to use tests to ID COVID19 infections in less than 40 minutes. Stay tuned on our sister page BioFoundry who will be hosting the updates to these efforts. https://foundry.bio/coronavirus-covid-19/
