First up we are inviting you to have a daily #CuppawiththeBirds! Here is the challenge: Boil the kettle, make a cup of whatever you please, head outside or by a window and have a #CuppawiththeBirds. Take 10 mins out of your day to watch the birds in your garden and tell us who is visiting! Post in the comments below! Tag a friend to share a virtual cuppa with you! We look forward to seeing how you are enjoying your cuppas, finding out what birds you are seeing and sharing some great images that we have been tagged in. #CuppawiththeBirds is a project led by our Urban Birds team - for daily updates join the Birds in Backyards Facebook group, or follow the team on Twitter: @UrbanBirdsOz and Instagram: @birdsinbackyards Now, off to make that cup of coffee....

06.01.2022 We just love this illustration by Sydney artist Jess Harwood! @jessharwoodart Jess describes herself as a combination of Powerful Owl, bowerbird and fairy-wren.... Which quarantine bird are you? Can you guess a friend’s quarantine bird? Tag them and find out! "Birds have a lot to teach us about ourselves if only we take the time to observe, appreciate and protect them, " Jess says. We totally agree, Jess! We think that birds enrich our lives in immeasurable ways - and now more than ever. Thanks for letting us share your art, Jess. And why not check out our new #BirdingatHome resources page - https://www.networkbirdlife.org/birding-at-home

03.01.2022 A plethora of places in eastern Queensland are likely to have endured their coldest May day on record today. Some all-time (any month) records could have fall...en as well. This exceptionally cold weather was caused by a thick band of cloud sitting above a mass of cold air, providing the ideal conditions for limited daytime heating. Some notable running maximum temperatures as of 10pm on Saturday were: - Rockhampton 12.1C, 14C below average (equal lowest maximum temperature on record for any month) - Townsville 14.4C, 13C below average - Mackay 13.1C, 11C below average Official maximum temperatures for today won't be confirmed until 9am tomorrow. We will have more updates on this weekend's cold weather records in the coming days.
