25.01.2022 Not gonna lie - we get this a lot. It pains me to say there are too many Marketing cowboys and cowgirls out there doing the dodge at your expense. Digital Marketing is far too unregulated for our liking. And unless you’re clued up, it’s hard to know for sure who’s legit or who just watched a YouTube vid and now thinks they know how to build a website on Wix. We’ve inherited a lot of scorned clients in our time. Many of whom are totally skeptical about what... good marketers can do for them as they’ve been taken for a total ride. It definitely makes our job harder but so far we’ve rehabilitated 100% of clients who’ve previously had a bad experience with other providers. At Birdcage Marketing, we are university qualified marketing professionals who have completed A TONNE of industry specialised training to offer our clients a premium level service and advice. We’re absolute nerds for digital marketing Best Practices and work hard to ensure our clients are well taken care of. We’re also longtime members of the Australian Marketing Institute (our professional body) and hold memberships with some of the worlds top digital training providers (which cost us a pretty penny) just to ensure we’re always providing the most up-to-date and relevant advice in our fast-paced industry. We’re proud of our knowledge and skills and our favourite thing is watching them translate into business growth for our clients. See more
19.01.2022 Introducing TENAI! Our resident Facebook Ads Guru. Tenai has been flying with the Birdcage flock for almost 2 years now and in that time has gone from ads enthusiast to being at the top of her game. Working with almost 40 different types of businesses and graduating from industry-leading ads training providers, Tenai’s training and experience, passion for small businesses and almost obsessive love for data and results means she’s the woman you want on your... side when you’re navigating the wild world of Facebook Ads. Tenai takes her Facebook Ads results very seriously; even personally. She makes it her mission to keep her clients in the loop every step of the way and has a real knack for making even the most obscure numbers clear as day to understand. Based in Brisbane, Tenai’s entry into my life was, again, rather serendipitous. She first came to Birdcage as a client and we quickly realised we worked brilliantly as a team and became good friends in the process. Then, when I suffered some health issues at the end of 2018; I knew I had to reach out and find people I trust to help keep the business running in tip top shape. On the way back from a doctors appointment I sent Tenai a message: want a job? To which she agreed! Jumping in and hitting the ground running, Tenai stepped up instantly to become our trusted FB Ads guru and get some pretty outstanding results under her belt. Trusted not only by me and the team, but also by our much loved clients, Tenai either personally runs or overseas every single ads campaign that runs through the agency. And returning campaigns with 43 x ROAS, or generating $36k in sales from just $1000 ad spend, or literally plucking conversion-winning ad creative out of thin air, Tenai knows how to use the FB algorithm to our clients’ advantage. Every time I see one of Tenai’s results stories come across my inbox (clients will know what I’m talking about) I’m impressed and so thankful that I get to keep this guru on my team. I will be forever grateful for her Tenai-city (see what I did there?) and proactiveness to always refine her craft See more
16.01.2022 What’s the one non-negotiable for you in your business? Is it having a clear cut off from work and family life so you can recharge? Or, is it ensuring your social community is well nurtured every single day so you feel you’re adding value to their lives?... Perhaps it’s making sure every order that you ship out is Insta-worthy and includes that handwritten thank you note so customers know just how much they mean to you? For me; it’s being in love with what we do and who we do it for. If it’s clear to me that a potential client isn’t 100% all-in and passionate about what they do and how they do it; I’m out. We’re not a match. Our best work is created when we are purpose-led; and we can’t do it when our clients aren’t on the same level as us. But. When it’s clear that the brand we are creating for is purpose-driven and absolutely passionate about what they do? It’s fireworks We deliver strategies that blow their competitors out of the water. We craft stunning and functional websites that kill it at converting sales. Our social and content creation is on point. And our paid ads results make us double check we’re not seeing things. So I’m curious to know what your non-negotiable is - and how does it transform how you do business? Comment below

I hope you can feel through this post just how EXCITED and RARING TO GO we are for all the amazing brands we will get to work with in 2021. I hope yours is one of them
11.01.2022 Want to know our fave words that help encourage your audiences to take action? Of course you do. It's what we want all our audiences to do; CONNECT with us and then TAKE ACTION on our brand. How is it that we can make this happen through words? Welp, it's a fine art and I bow down to the master copywriters amongst us, but there are a few words us mere mortals can leverage to persuade audiences that YOUR product/service is the solution for THEM if you're wanti...ng to DIY your copy. 1. YOU: Write with your audience at the centre of the story. They don't care about you (sorry), they care about how you can solve their problems. So; tell them. 2. IMAGINE: Help your audience visualise how amazing they'll feel after purchasing from you. Include their pain points and get them to IMAGINE what their life would feel like to have these solved. 3. BECAUSE: When you give people a reason for something; they understand. Tell them WHY you're doing what you're doing. Or why they should do what you want them to do. "Save this post for later BECAUSE we both know you'll save time searching for it later when you write that product description". Do you have any favourite words you love using when writing content? I'd love to hear some industry-specific words that are on your frequently-used list! Comment below See more
10.01.2022 LET’S TALK FREE MARKETING ADVICE ...And that’s a wrap on the first day back in office! We’ve got some big goals this year, at Birdcage. And one of them is to deliver more FREE marketing training to our community of small business owners.... As an agency that takes care of a full spectrum of digital marketing; from brand strategy, to websites, to organic social media marketing through to sales funnels, paid ads and email marketing, I often find it really hard to hone down on a particular area to create training content. Is it for brand new brands who need all the advice around establishing a brand, starting their online communities and landing their first few sales? Or do the 3-5 year old brands want help with refocusing and hitting major growth milestones? Is it only in website conversion-rate optimisation? Facebook Ads? Social Media content strategy? General brand strategy? THERE’S JUST SO MUCH I WANT TO SHARE. So, kind folk. Help me help you. What do you feel you want to learn more about? What have you promised yourself you would get on top of (but just don’t know how?). If you could ask me anything about digital marketing; what would it be? Best answer gets first look at the free training content we create AND...GO!
08.01.2022 And this is the difference journaling makes The last few days I’ve been feeling very reactive in my days. My husband is away for work, we’ve had no childcare for 3 weeks, it’s been pouring with rain which has killed my morning walks with the kids, and I’ve felt unproductive being busy but not actually doing. Last night I opened my journal and reflected on how I was feeling and just let the writing flow. By the end of my session I had planned out my entire Saturday mor...ning which included booking the kids into the Creché at my gym so I could get back to do a spin class and enjoy the sauna (which I haven’t done in months). Before I went to bed, I packed a bag for the kids (because even an hour creche sesh requires all-the-snacks) and for myself. I prepped their breaky so we could make it out the door by 6:45am. My plan also included a loose idea of how the rest of the day would follow. So now, it’s 12 noon and I have; Done a spin class 15 minute sauna and meditation Driven out to the organic shop for produce and a little coffee and play for the kids The robotic vacuum has vacuumed and mopped the house (which is impossible if we’re all home) Organised and had my ironing lady pickup my basket for the week Made the BEST organic salad for brunch and prepped a few other meals Brewed a pot of Genius Tea and made an IG Reel about it (because, engagement) Vacuumed the car because of the aforementioned kids snacks Done 30 minutes reading for the day Rescued the giant pool umbrella from the pool thanks to our cyclonic weather And now, I get to bum around the rest of the day feeling like I proactively prioritised my self-care and household jobs. I know all this might seem trivial. But compared to this time yesterday I feel so much less frazzled and have achieved so much more. And had I not taken 10 minutes last night to reflect and plan through journaling, we would all most likely still be in our pjs with screen fatigue and the house torn to shreds (see: cubby house masters). Is anyone else journaling their way through 2021? Have you seen benefits? Or are you still wondering what the heck do I write about?
06.01.2022 Yes. Always. Regardless of whether you're a brand new business about to launch or an established business with years of experience, ensuring you're clear on your brand strategy will ensure your BRANDING, MARKETING + ADVERTISING are consistent and build connections with your audiences. When we first start working with most of our clients, we always check whether they already have a brand strategy in place. If not, we love diving in and starting the strategy ...process. This process looks like: 1. An initial strategy call where we pick your brains and ask you a heap of questions (most clients find this really enlightening!) 2. We go back to our internal team and start the brainstorming and research process 3. We present the first draft of the strategy for your review and have a discussion around any changes you'd like to see 4. We finalise the strategy and you're left with a clear, concise and exciting new brand strategy which we will reference across all future projects. process Simple right?! Brand strategies are one of my personal faves so if you're yet to develop a brand strategy for your brand we'd love to help you. Comment below or shoot me a message if you'd like to start the process! See more
04.01.2022 #nochanges the dream comment when sending strategy/design/copy concepts to a client. And really; we get this a lot. The reason why so many of our clients come back to us after the first round telling us we have no changes is because we put a lot of effort into the briefing stage of projects. We want to understand your target audiences, know your objectives, and really get inside your brain to understand what drives you forward in your business.... This feedback was received after a brand strategy presentation when the client had gone sometime working with a previous provider who just wasn’t getting them. Feedback like this makes my heart sing; it means we are in alignment and ready to do some big things for your brand See more
03.01.2022 Ok people, let’s talk about the thrilling topic of domain names. Whilst perhaps not the sexiest of topics, getting your domain name right (or wrong) is pretty major to your brand. And although you may not think it, there’s actually a lot of decisions you need to make when registering your business domain name.... So here are our top tips: SAVE THIS POST FOR LATER 1. Choose a domain name which is exactly the same, or as close to your business name as possible. Avoid acronyms, or shortened versions. 2. Use a trusted registrar that won’t hike up the price after your first year. We recommend Panthur or VentraIP. 3. Avoid registering your domain name through web builder platforms like Wix or Shopify as they make it near impossible to transfer away. 4. Register the .com .com.au and even .co.uk and .com.nz (or any other regions) to protect your brand. You don’t want someone else jumping on your brand name under another extension. 5. Register your domain name AS SOON as you *think* you’ve chosen your business name. They’re cheap and you’ll be sorry if you miss out. 6. This might sound obvious, but PLEASE remember where your domain is hosted and your login details. I can’t tell you how many clients don’t know this and it’s an ordeal to work backwards and eventually get access. 7. Avoid funny spelling, hyphens, numbers and overly long domain names. Make it easy to write, say and spell. Remember capitalisations don’t impact your domain name. Any other domain related questions? Hit me with them below and I’ll share best practices from the perspective of your marketing strategy
