25.01.2022 Bowra is too far to make it in a day from our place so we stopped at St George for the night. It was blowing a gale and stormy when arrived but the next morning we awoke to a beautiful day. We have been to St George a few times and I quite like the town. They have done a great job doing the parklands up along the river and I would highly recommend doing the river walk. Our favourite part is the weir and boat ramp at the end. Always a good range of birds. In the morning there ...were a number of birds drinking at the edge of the boat ramp including this pretty male red-rumped parrot. 14.01.2022 Apostlebird, Bollon, Day 2 When you cross the ranges you start seeing lots of birds that are not common along the coast. One of these is Apostle birds. Early settlers believed that these groups always comprised 12 birds, and likened these to the apostles of Jesus Christ. In reality, the groups can be up to 30 birds but in this case, we actually just counted 12. They are funny birds, very family oriented but always sound like they are arguing with each other. Yup, sounds like ...a few families I know. 14.01.2022 White-plumed Honeyeater, Bollon Weir, Day 2 There was an eBird hotspot at Bollon Weir about 100km west of St George so we decided to stop there and stretch our legs. At face value, the weir doesn't look much but if you take the path behind the town and follow the billabong it was full of birdlife and a pleasant walk. 13.01.2022 We had the first Birdlife Southern Queensland, Southern Group last weekend at Girraween National Park. Saturday was stormy but luckily we only got a few minutes of light rain. It was a great weekend with a bunch of lovely people and some great birding, including two lifers for us. #birdlifesouthernqld

11.01.2022 Restless Flycatcher Building Nest, Bollon, Day 2 One of the most amazing sites we saw on our trip was a pair of Restless Flycatchers building their nest in a tree overhanging the billabong at #Bollon. It was a real ta team effort. One would fly in with nesting material and the other would take off to repeat. They seemed to know the other was approaching and would leave just as the other arrived. Once there was enough material the female would stay and continue constructing th...e nest to suit her.
