20.01.2022 "Studies performed in humans have indicated that, on the one hand, normal stress (eustress) induced by physiological birth could be associated with beneficial and adaptive effects in both mother and infant [7]. For example, lung maturation is stimulated by elevated cortisol levels in connection with birth of a newborn [8]. On the other hand, harmful levels of stress during labour and birth may be linked to adverse long-term changes including hyperactivity of the hypothalamic-...pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) [9]. There is also emerging evidence that supports for mothers during birth and a positive birth experience, as well as skin-to-skin contact between a mother and their newborn after birth, may be linked to sustained increased social interactive skills and reduced stress levels in the mother and infant. Oxytocin released during childbirth and skin-to-skin contact may play an important role in mediating these effects [4,5,10,11]." 19.01.2022 Thanks Dr.Jack Newman for this factual sensible advice - When breastfeeding mothers get sick, have a migraine or a fever or are in pain, they need help. Many people imagine that recommending stopping breastfeeding and giving the baby bottles is a way to help sick breastfeeding mothers. Giving the baby bottles or stopping breastfeeding is often seen as a solution to everything. The idea seems to be that breastfeeding is what is making the mother’s life difficult and that her r...est and recovery will be made easier by taking away the burden of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is not a burden or it should not have been if mothers had received good help and advice when initiating breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is a way mothers take care of their babies. And life situations can be worked around the mother’s and baby’ s need to breastfeed and be breastfed. It just requires a different mindset. It takes seeing breastfeeding as essential. Indispensable. Breastfeeding is not the reason the mother is sick. It is not making her illness worse. It is not making her life difficult. A sick breastfeeding mother has the right to rest, to sleep, to get relief, to get time to herself, to take medications if needed to get better. So, when a breastfeeding mother is sick, it is time for family members to step up and provide help that works around making sure breastfeeding is maintained. Being able to continue breastfeeding reassures the mother. Bottles will make her breastfeeding complicated or impossible in the long run. How can you help a sick breastfeeding mother? 1. Make food for her. 2. Ask the mother what she needs. 3. Help with the baby diapering, playing with the baby, carrying the baby in a baby carrier or baby wrap and putting the baby to sleep and then placing the sleeping baby next to the mother. 4. Help the mother hold the baby when breastfeeding if the mother is unable to do so. 5. Help the mother at night so the baby can breastfeed, and all the care of the baby except the breastfeeding is being done by someone else. 6. Help the mother breastfeed lying down with the baby beside her and breastfeed side by side. In this way, the mother does not have to get up. You can read a lot more about breastfeeding and maternal illness and reasons to continue breastfeeding in my new book called Breastfeeding: Empowering Parents: my eBook https://ibconline.ca/ebook/

18.01.2022 I can not stress this enough. Your instincts about your body and your baby are better than any medical test. Health professionals may have academic degrees but you have a lifetime of knowing your own body. Tune in to yourself. Everything you need to know is already within you.

16.01.2022 No one tells you its going to be this hard. That youll feel responsible for their beating heart long after they have left your body. That the very second they... take their first breath will also be the day youll began to forever hold your own. That their arrival will signal the last time you ever truly put yourself first. That every thought process will have them in mind regardless of whether it relates to them directly or not. That every decision forevermore will be carefully calculated as to not effect them detrimentally. No one tells you your heart will physically ache so profoundly. From sadness, worry, angst but mostly love. No one tells you how you may struggle through each stage only to be desperately sad once the milestone is accomplished. That youll wish more than anything to return to yesterday. To go back for just one day. To witness their first smile, revel in their first giggle and be serenaded by their very first coos. That their cries will in turn cause tears of your own until you fall into a learned rhythm of togetherness. No one tells you theyll become your proudest achievements. Your first priority. Your initial waking and final bedtime thoughts. The greatest loves of your life. No one tells you beforehand. Maybe they do and we just dont listen? And thats okay. Because its worth it. Because it wouldnt change a thing. Because were Mothers. 14.01.2022 The novel coronavirus causes damage and kills by creating extreme inflammation. This is why the answer lies in the gut- immune system link. 99% of people who ha...ve died have obvious overt immune system deficiencies, preexisting conditions. The infection can induce an extreme immune response characterized by the overproduction of immune cells and the uncontrolled release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Exceedingly high levels of the cytokines IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-, and CRP result in overt inflammatory symptoms that include mild to severe respiratory disease, high fever, and cough. In progressed disease this "cytokine storm" will circulate throughout the body to trigger a surge of active immune cells into the lungs resulting in acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and may be particularly severe in immune compromised subjects such as the elderly, diabetics, and those with cardiovascular disease. To save lives every person who has a preexisting health condition should fix their gut. If I contracted corona virus I would take high dose vitamin C, high dose probiotics, lots of Kfibre, herbs and some essential oils. If I want to prevent infection I would do the same and I do do this every day. I wrote a book called "overcoming illness" which is all about inflammation and a book called "gut secrets". Take action now and share the information it might save lives See more

12.01.2022 Giving birth physiologically is an intense and transformative psychological experience that generates a sense of empowerment. The benefits of this process can be maximised through physical, emotional and social support for women, enhancing their belief in their ability to birth and not disturbing physiology unless it is necessary. In HypnoBirthing we learn all about how to achieve this for yourself and give your birth companions tools to support you through it and share... in the joy. Nothing feels quite as awesome as being in a birthing room where everyone is high on oxytocin and endorphins! Whos with me?! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov///pdf/bmjopen-2017-020347.pdf

10.01.2022 Evidence supports the notion that women instinctively push in the most effective and safe way for themselves and their babies during birth. A birthing woman is the expert regarding when and how she pushes. Providing directions implies she needs our guidance and that we are the experts. Facilitating womens instinctive birthing behaviours rather than directing them is evidence based and reinforces womens innate ability to birth. Dr Rachel Reed In our HypnoBirthing classes we teach you special breathing techniques and guide you to trust you natural instincts to birth your baby without force. You already know what to do, its just about learning to trust yourself and leave fear at the door.

10.01.2022 Interesting new Can human milk combat COVID-19? According to new research, very possibly. A team in the Netherlands, led by Dr Johannes Goudoever, found that over 80% of mothers infected with COVID-19 produce antibodies in their milk. In some mothers, these antibodies can effecively neutralise the virus. This may not be the case after milk is heat-treated using the traditional method we use at Hearts and in most milk banks around the world, but another method of pasteurisatio...n may enable us preserve this amazing property and produce a new treatment. Dr Goudoever's team is now working on this, and we hope to help in future studies any way we can. 03.01.2022 Here at birthing instincts we really value and encourage women to make informed decisions. Sometimes it takes education to realise you even have choices within the system and you need tools to empower you to know what questions to ask and how to go about getting what you want. Were really big on teaching this in our classes. Those of you who have birthed what tools did you find useful? Can you share your experiences and perhaps what you may do differently next time? Those who havent birthed yet what are you finding difficult? What do you think would help?

01.01.2022 A photo showing droplets of breast milk fending off armies of harmful bacteria in Petri dishes is going viral on Facebook. The photo, posted by a biology student in England, features nine Petri dishes completely colonized with the bacteria M. Luteus, except in the center, where tiny puddles of breast milk have created what looks like moats of protection around themselves. The student, Vicky Green, said she had similar results with Petri dishes full of e.Coli and the d...readed anti-biotic resistant super bug MRSA. The white spots in the middle are discs soaked in two samples of breastmilk, Green wrote in the caption of her post. See the clear bit around the discs that’s where the proteins in the milk have inhibited the bacteria! An article from YourPediatrician.com explains how this is possible: About 80 percent of the cells in breast milk are macrophages, cells that kill bacteria, fungi and viruses. Breast-fed babies are protected, in varying degrees, from a number of illnesses, including pneumonia, botulism, bronchitis, staphylococcal infections, influenza, ear infections, and German measles. Furthermore, mothers produce antibodies to whatever disease is present in their environment, making their milk custom-designed to fight the diseases their babies are exposed to as well. What’s even more impressive is that the samples of milk in the photos came from the mother of a 15-month-old and a 3-year-old, providing further evidence that breast milk continues to protect against illness long beyond infancy.
