Take thick paper, even cereal or cracker box thin cardboard, cut 2 squares, find the centre, place a pin through both squares , rotate the top square until you have even corners, double side tape together making sure your 8 corners are all the same size. Cut off corners, you have a octagon. Measure the sides and cut a square that size. Patterns done.
