25.01.2022 Wow! How exciting is this news from Gathaagudu? No better way to get to know and respect country than listening to its custodians and this project will make that even easier #Malgana

23.01.2022 Check out the beautiful work happening out at Pia Wadjarri RCS

20.01.2022 Language in the news - what do you think? Maybe you've heard about languages becoming part of the Closing the Gap targets, or a new report called 'NILR' and how Australian languages are being used? There's lots of talk, but the summary is: governments are starting to really take notice of what people have been saying forever and that is - languages matter!... This article has some good info and links to what other people have written about Australian languages, but we want to know Why is your language important to you

20.01.2022 Interested in someone from Bundiyarra running a workshop with your organisation? Would you like to know more about the region's languages or about the history of Bundiyarra? You can now make a request directly through our website - just follow the link below to get in touch!

19.01.2022 In today's #NAIDOC celebration post - did you see this news yesterday? The WA government released the Aboriginal and dual naming guidelines. What would you like to see re- or dual-named?

18.01.2022 We are SO PROUD of our trainee Danah Merritt who was invited to speak at the Rangeway PS NAIDOC assembly yesterday morning. Danah talked about her journey through school and language, and how important it is for kids to listen to their elders. Keep your eyes out for many great things to come from this wise young woman - nyinda yurnanggu Danah!

17.01.2022 Some of our team presented a talk today about the translation process from English to Badimaya for The Furnace film last year. Thanks to Godfrey, James and the film’s Director, Roderick, for co-presenting and thanks to UWA Linguistics for having us!

16.01.2022 NAIDOC Week is a time of celebration and we love seeing members of our language communities celebrated in all corners of the net! Here’s Bianca, a Badimaya woman living in SA who’s working to reclaim her Badimaya language. There are so many champions of culture and language out there - who are you celebrating this week?... #alwayswasalwayswillbe #NAIDOCWeek2020

16.01.2022 You might recognise some of these panellists talking with Nola - Graham and Ron talked about their experiences with ANZAC Day a few weeks back, and Edie is one of our Language Specialists! How lucky Geraldton is to have such thoughtful and circumspect people (who are willing to get up on camera!) https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1044514879279079

16.01.2022 Today in our NAIDOC celebration post, we're celebrating the diverse languages in Australia - and that's not just traditional languages, but new ones like Aboriginal English too. Aboriginal English is a dialect like Scottish or Irish English. There are some different words and different rules, and sometimes words mean different things between dialects - you know how Americans say they're 'rooting' for something? That means something a bit different here in Oz - in the same way that 'deadly' means something different in Aboriginal English. This animation was scripted by Nyungar scholar Glenys Collard - and we reckon it's proper solid!

15.01.2022 Did you see this lovely chat Graham Taylor and Ron Cross did a couple of weeks back on City of Greater Geraldton's CGG TV for ANZAC Day? They talked about their time as servicemen and their work on the Yamatji War Memorial at Bundiyarra. Thanks Graham and Ron for all that you do for your community and your country

15.01.2022 How exciting that The Furnace is going to premiere at the Venice Film Festival! We were so pleased to work with Badimaya people to get Badimaya language in the film. Make sure you check out and listen for the Badimaya guwaga when the film comes out next year!

14.01.2022 We’re almost ready to go for the Bundiyarra NAIDOC 2020 celebrations! Come down between 10 and 2, check out the stalls, have a feed, listen to some music and catch up with friends and fam!

14.01.2022 Danah wrote a blog post about our recent trip to Perth to see The Furnace before it heads off to the Venice Film Festival next month! Check it out below

11.01.2022 In today's second #NAIDOC celebration post we're sharing this amazing news for locally-made film The Furnace! The filmmakers worked closely with Badimaya people to represent Badimaya language and culture in the film, and we here at Irra Wangga were very privileged to be a small part of that. Big mob of praise to former IW linguist James Bednall and Wajarri/Badimaya man Godfrey Simpson for the work they did with community on translating dialogue into Badimaya. Old Mr George (RIP) would have been so proud to see his guwaga on the big screen and everyone who worked on this should be proud as well

09.01.2022 Such a pleasure to host representatives of the Wilunyu language group this morning at the language centre. Wilunyu language comes from the area around Geraldton and while it hasn't been spoken for a while, lots of work has been happening behind the scenes. A few of the group weren't able to make it today (they'll be in the next photo!) - looking forward to lots more work in the future

08.01.2022 Nyinda barndiba Godfrey! Check out Wajarri language speaker Godfrey Simpson on the City of Greater Geraldton's CGG TV giving a short lesson on some of the words of the Murchison. There are so many languages in our wider region so this is just the start! Are you interested in sharing some of your language on CGG TV? Drop us a message and we'll help set it up!

08.01.2022 The coronavirus pandemic has changed so much already, and while some of the changes are good - like families spending more time together - many more are not . The impacts of the pandemic are already being felt in healthcare, education and small businesses - but the ripples are getting wider, so we asked: what about endangered languages and the small and often vulnerable communities who speak them? Our coordinator Rosie and Warriyangga/Thiinma speaker Peter Salmon spoke with SBS about some of the challenges we're already facing, and what is needed to make sure languages can keep getting stronger in the post-COVID world

08.01.2022 Happy birthday Nanna Edie! We hope you have the best day

03.01.2022 One of our brilliant new language workers Danah had a yarn with the equally brilliant Nola Gregory about this year’s Reconciliation Week theme Danah first got involved with the language centre as a student and we’re so proud of her coming full circle and joining the team! Nyinda yurnanggu Danah

03.01.2022 Wajarri wanggamanha Disneyngga TVngga! (Talking Wajarri on Disney on the TV!) Wajarri speaker Godfrey Simpson recently helped out with an episode of Disney's 'Spread the Word' - check out this awesome video to hear some Wajarri wangga in use. What a great way to entertain the mayu while they're stuck at home?! Wajarri is the language of the Murchison region of Western Australia.

02.01.2022 Busy day at the language centre with our staff working across 3 upcoming projects! Recording for the reprint of the Wajarri dictionary, planning for upcoming Malgana work and preparing the camper trailer for the big field trip with Warriyangga on Country in a few weeks. It’s hectic but we love it!
