18.01.2022 WOMEN’S HEALTH WEEK 2020 Are you thinking about your hormonal health? You should be! Hormones are kind of like hair ties it’s easy to forget how important they are, especially because they’re hard to keep track of. But boy, when it comes to your health, hormones have a far-reaching and profound effect.... Hormones are responsible for so many factors that contribute to your overall wellbeing including your mood, energy, skin, weight, fertility and of course your periods. And if they’re out of whack, you’re likely to see symptoms such as irritability, weight gain, fatigue, acne, painful or irregular periods and fertility issues. Do you check in with your hormones? Have you ever tracked your symptoms against your cycle? If your symptoms seem cyclical it’s a good time to check with your hormones - you can learn all about the types of hormonal imbalances on my blog and in my book Healthy Hormones - links to both in my bio! #womenshealthweek2020 @dr.bryant @megtantillorn See more

13.01.2022 While I always advise completely abstaining from alcohol during pregnancy (and ideally preconception), pregnant patients often report to me that their doctor or obstetrician had told them it is fine to have a few drinks while pregnant. However, a recent study of almost 10,000 children aged between nine and 11 found that exposure to low levels of alcohol in utero led to more behavioural and psychological problems than children who were not exposed. The study showed that any p...renatal alcohol exposure, increased the risk of impulsive behaviour, separation, anxiety, and oppositional behaviour. The bottom line - avoid all alcohol during pregnancy. There is no safe level.

04.01.2022 PERIODS do you know what is ‘normal’? There is a wide variation of normal menstrual cycles and it is important to recognize the difference between what is common and what is normal. A menstrual cycle should ideally be free of negative symptoms. Length of cycle - the average length of a normal menstrual cycle is 28 days but anywhere from 25-33 days is considered to be normal. Spotting is considered to be part of the last cycle and day one doesn't start until there is ac...tual flow. Flow - normal bleeding will usually last from 3-5 days and can range from light, moderate or heavy. Colour - flow should be a bright red colour and may be a deeper darker red when the flow is heavy. Symptoms - mild symptoms which don’t interfere with your life and only last a day or two before your period are generally considered normal but symptoms which last longer than a few days or disrupt your daily activities are not normal and should be investigated. Pain- a normal menstrual cycle should be pain free. A painful cycle should always be investigated, especially if it interferes with daily functioning. #womenshealthweek2020 @dr.bryant @megtantillorn #healthyhormoneswithbelindakirkpatrick See more
