25.01.2022 Happy 80th birthday John Thompson! It was our absolute pleasure to host the Thompson family last night. So nice to see people getting back to normal and The Crib Room back to its old self

25.01.2022 The people you meet in this high paced industry and the beautiful people in this district are the real reason we get up in the morning! Bernie Werder on the right was the very first guest at Black Gold Motel (known as Black Gold Cabins at this time). Bernie and his mate Ernie, used to rent "Peacock" in its very humble beginnings and quickly became friends. Bernie & Ernie gave us confidence that we could make a go of the hospitality industry even when the task seemed rather d...aunting. So nice to see you Bernie, 25yrs in between From little things, big things grow

20.01.2022 And the winner of the Black Gold Mothers Day hamper is.... SoniaJohn Cox Massive congratulations... We want to wish everyone a very happy & safe Mothers Day The Black Gold Team

19.01.2022 Let us continue our virtual tour of Black Gold Motel. Our next room is legendary for students and parents of Wallerawang Public school, it served as the headmasters office. Many ex-students will remember waiting on an invite into the principals office with sweaty palms at the thought of what was to come. The school assembly used to take place every morning out the front of Peacock with Wallerawang Public School students singing the school anthem for many many years!... The room is named after George Peacock, who began his reign as Principal of Wallerawang Public in 1990. Mr. Peacock was the last Wallerawang Public School Principal before the school relocated to its current location on Barton Avenue. Mr. Peacock is an absolute Gentleman & is a highly regarded member of the local community and will always be remembered as a kind-natured, fair Principal who put students first. Peacock has been rejuvenated into a 3-bedroom cabin with the benefit and ease of all the comforts of home within. It features a spacious verandah and location so close to the BBQ area. NOTE: The arrows on the floor of the virtual tour allow you to move around the room. Enjoy!

17.01.2022 Our next virtual tour is of one of our split-level Villa style accommodation options. Morrow is a room with heritage significance, it has been a part of Wallerawang community for 139 years and is apart of the original Wallerawang School building built-in 1881. The new Wallerawang School came about when Mrs Edwin Barton (Mrs. James Walkers daughter) presented two and a half acres of land adjacent to the railway for the construction of a new school. Negotiations were completed... in 1881 and the successful building tender was that of Mr G. Donald, who was the first Mayor of Lithgow. The school and residence were occupied on 20th May 1882. Named after Mr Robert Morrow a well-respected and ingrained member of the Lithgow community. After Roberts transfer to Wallerawang in 1975, dedicated to the sporting and academic education of children in the Wallerawang and Lithgow District for over 36 years as an executive teacher and assistant principal and coach. Rob retired from teaching in 2011 and was made a lifetime member of the Wallerawang P&C Committee and is still an active member in various local community groups. To add another string to its bow, the room was also been used as a dance studio by Katrina Cluff, which taught many aspiring young Lithgow dancers the craft. In 2007 Robert & Linda Cluff transformed the old classroom into a modern split-level 3-bedroom villa with everything that you need to enjoy a recharging stay in comfort and style with room for the larger group or family. 17.01.2022 Phhheew.....we made it!!! On Monday afternoon we hosted our first guests in the new wing!! Fittingly, the first guest was one of our favourites and long term supporter of our business - Paul Mainey from ALS Engineering. Massive shout out to everyone who made this happen in a seemingly impossible time-frame. But as captain Rob repeats at least 3 times a day...NEVER SAY CAN'T!!! ... The crew we had on board for this project embodies what it means to be a team. Everyone worked in with each other, helped one another with tasks outside their scope, sang together, drank together & most importantly had lots of fun on the journey. The following people need to be recognised for their efforts & craftsmanship, there are more, too many to list but you know who you are: Aaron Scanlan _ Builder Chris Hickson - Builder Kerry Vlores - Plumber Chris Isley Painter Derryn Cluff Electrician Wayde Thompson Electrician Brian Rosewarne Gyprock Dayne Houlison Gyprock Emil Klemens Flooring Andrew York Communications Grant Matthews L2 Electrician D&C Powerline Constructions L1 Electrical Corey Stockton (Carpet One Lithgow) - Carpet Pacey Stockton Carpet Darren (Kwik Kerb) - Garden Edging Chris Ersek - Photography & Framing Charlie Cluff Trades Assistant Jake Cluff Trades Assistant Black Gold Motel Housekeeping - Cleaning Lithgow Bedding & Furniture Beds TLE Lithgow Electrical Supplies Harvey Norman Lithgow White goods & furniture Tradelink Lithgow Bathroom & Plumbing supplies Bunnings Trade Lithgow Misc building supplies Victoria Post Forming Kitchens & Cabinetry Dark Red Frames & Trusses Frames & Trusses Bathurst Glass Windows Kings Hardware - Fit-out Material Peak Blinds Blinds & Curtains Altitude Air Air Conditioning JG Lock Safe & Security Locksmiths We still have some finishing touches to sign off and officially open the wing......but we made the deadline (just). 12.01.2022 Next cab off the rank on our virtual tour of Black Gold Motel is Hawkins. Hawkins has a truly interesting history and has hosted more students, teachers & lectures than it can remember! The building was constructed at Glen Davis Public School. It was then relocated to Angus Place Public School. It then purchased by Wallerawang Public School and moved to its final destination in 1969/70. The building was used as a classroom from approximately 1959 to 1995.... The room was appropriately named after Bob Hawkins a former Deputy Principal at Wallerawang Public School between 1971-1990. Bob dedicated 36 years of his life to teaching children in the Lithgow and Wallerawang district. The building was renovated in 1997 by Robert Cluff. Bobs old classroom has been transformed into a cosy three-bedroom cabin with all the comforts of home including; huge lounge area, full laundry facilities, a beautiful veranda, a large bathroom including a bath, and a handy stroll to the BBQ area. It is the ideal space for a family, corporate travelers, or those wanting a space of their own to unwind. VIRTUAL TOUR https://ths.li/Us4uKr WEBSITE https://blackgoldmotel.com.au/rooms/hawkins NOTE: The arrows on the floor of the virtual tour allow you to explore the space. Let us know your thoughts!

11.01.2022 Morning The Wallerawang baseball season starts this Sunday! It is played down at the scenic Wallerawang lake. If you've never played, you really should give it a crack. It's lots of fun and a great way to get active and meet new people. If you would like to play or know anyone interested, please get in touch on our private messenger.

11.01.2022 While we have access, our brilliant team has created virtual tours of all our rooms. As most locals would not have the need to stay, we would love to virtually share our rooms over the next few weeks! Our first tour will be of Cluff which is our Deluxe Villa.. This historic space is the origins of Wallerawang Public School, built-in 1881. It has had various purposes over the years including classroom, library, local indoor cricket pitch, mattress wrestling arena (much to ...the dismay of Rob & Linda) & finally, transitioned into its current state as the jewel of Black Gold Motel. Cluff is aptly named after Robert and Linda Cluff who have transformed this original building and beautiful property from the ground up since purchased at Auction in 1994. 7000-man hours have been invested in this spectacular space. Aaron Scanlan & Derryn Cluff also had large contributions in this mammoth renovation. Cluff is elegant and luxurious with a cathedral ceiling paired with chandeliers, gas fireplace, granite benchtops, and mezzanine style bedrooms. The Cluff Villa is the ideal treat for those guests that want a truly memorable stay. Please enjoy the tour and please let us know your thoughts!

10.01.2022 Sadly, last night was one of our Black Gold families last shift. Amy has been with us for 4 solid years. We will miss you very much, however, all good things come to an end. We wish you well in your career educating our youth. You will be a star at whatever you choose in life

10.01.2022 We have had some additions to the coal mining memorabilia in the Crib Room, thoughtfully donated by one of our regular patrons. These captivating moments in time are all framed up and will be mounted this week ready for display when we get the green light. #1 "Johnny" sharing crib with his reliable old pit pony. #2 "Mini Miner" - set in the early 1900s in the UK, this 7yr old boy has just been made redundant and his face definitely reflects his thoughts on the management deci...sion. Big ups to Cheryl & Leah @ Prints N Frames for helping us with one of their final framing jobs!

01.01.2022 Strawberry Shortcake Alert Brittni has concocted a delicious cocktail close to many of our hearts, as it is to raise money for breast cancer. For the month of October, we will donate $5 for every Strawberry Shortcake cocktail purchased toward this most important cause. Please drink generously ;) Please see below for some information on Breast Cancer which is quite startling:... "Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) takes place every October. The aim of the BCAM is to shine a light on the devastating impact breast cancer has on thousands of Australians each day. Almost 20,000 Australians will be diagnosed with the disease this year alone. That equates to 55 Australians every day. And nearly 3000 Australians will lose their lives to breast cancer this year. That’s someone’s mother, sister, friend, or family member whose life has been tragically cut short because of the disease. Although the five-year survival rate has increased from 76% to 91% since 1994 thanks to research, there is still progress to be made to stop deaths from breast cancer. By targeting the remaining 9% who do not live past this survival rate, NBCF’s goal is to reach zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. We rely entirely on generous donations from the Australian community to fund leading breast cancer researchers. Through these funds, we are able to invest in world-class research in prevention, detection, new and improved treatment, and quality of life to ultimately stop deaths from breast cancer."
