18.01.2022 Round Pegs / Square Holes As many of you know, all our target plates feature square holes for target mounting. The reason for this is functionality and ease of use. A lot of crap is written about round holes being best or strongest or rah rah rah... All a load of absolute crap..! ... If plates need round holes to hang together, they clearly haven't had enough thought put into them at design stage. Use our plates to their rated energy limits, you will never ever have an issue, we guarantee it..! Taking a look at the picture, this plate is one we used at a display day, it's taken a hammering at around 180m out from .22/250, .243, and 6.5 Creedmoor. Clearly you can see the stainless cuphead bolt has sustained multiple hits, completely clipped out on one side, but it's still doing the job intended. (square hole required to use this bolt) Here's the next awesome part, when it comes time to change this bolt, you only ever need one tool because there is no head engagement needed. If a conventional hex headed or cap screw or allen keyed button head was used, you'd be reaching for the grinder or a set of multi grips to hold it as you unwind the ny-lok nut on the rear. (once again, square hole required) Go for; * Stainless Cuphead M12 x 40mm ~ 60mm (depending on plate thickness) * Always use a Ny-lok on the rear (Please do not use a stainless Ny-lok, probability of binding if un-lubricated is high. Just use zinc.) * Stacked heavy washes are a great way to create chain or hanging clearance so you get a true clamp to the rear of the plate. We make nearly all our targets in three thickness choices, we do this because shooting steel is not a one size fits all kind of sport. If you are ever confused about what will work best for you, start with a ballistic app, (even a basic one will generally give you the info you need) punch in your cal/load and then check out how much speed and energy its doing at the ranges you intend shooting at. Then using the ra...ting guide, you'll quickly be able to see what thickness will best suit your needs. Yes, thicker is awesome, but not always best, sometimes thinner plates will easily do it, have more reaction and are less pricey meaning you can have more for less...
