24.01.2022 Went Powerful Owl hunting after hearing a few reports of a pair around Centennial Park. Found the giant Moreton Bay Fig with all the telltale signs, but no Owl in sight. Just over the next hill was a flock of about 50 Yellow Tail Black Cockatoos. Very happy to let people get close for plenty of snaps! #centennialpark #bird #birdsofinstagram #birdphotography #nature #naturephotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #blackcockatoo #cockatoo @ Centennial Parklands

16.01.2022 Having spent a lot of time at this park over the years, the name had always seemed familiar. Finally, after being bitten by the genealogy bug, I did some digging and managed to find out this park was infact named after a relative who had lived in the area, served on the council and was tireless in her charity work. Will always hold more meaning now when visiting this park. #sydney #zetland #maryobrien #maryobrienreserve #cityofsydney @cityofsydney @ Mary O Brien Reserve

12.01.2022 **** ATTENTION ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT TO ADD YOUR VOICE**** We need all bird lovers to take a stand! Please add your voice to to this campaign. Anticoagulant rodenticides are threatening our precious wildlife. Birds such as owls, kookaburras, mapgies, are dying a cruel death. The link for the campaign is below, have a read of the goal, then click on it, you can change the wording if you need to and then submit it. It doesnt take long. let us know below if you have signed, shar...ed to a group or page as well, (message me the links for a collective sharing thank you post) so we can personally thank you. Because of your voices we are confident it will be reviewed, so keep signing! It allows you to share after you sign or you can copy and paste. ***The Campaign*** Australia is reviewing the use of these dangerous chemicals right now. Anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) act as blood thinners, so rats and mice can consume a lethal dose but not feel sick until later. Newer ARs, called second generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs), are powerful enough that a single feed can be lethal. But because of the time lag between taking a bait and feeling the effects, rodents can consume a more-than-lethal dose and still be wandering around - like walking time bombs. Predators that naturally eat rodents, like owls and other birds of prey, can then easily consume multiple poisoned rodents, in turn becoming poisoned themselves. SGARs dont break down quickly some can stay in tissues and organs for months, even years. Unfortunately this just makes it easier for these bigger animals to get a lethal dose of toxins. We at Birds in Backyards and BirdLife Australia want Australia to follow the US, Canada and the EU and restrict the use of rodenticides in general and remove SGARs from the shelves. Go to https://www.actforbirds.org/ratpoison to have your say and read about the alternatives that are available.*

09.01.2022 Day out in Ulladulla. Our main target was the Vulnerable listed Glossy Black Cockatoos. We were lucky enough to find a pair feeding in the first 10 minutes! They were gone shortly after but we were soon distracted by the Humpback whales. A few more birds with the Bar Shouldered Dove and the New Holland Honeyeater before heading around the headland to the harbour to see the Australian Fur Seal. #glossyblackcockatoo #newhollandhoneyeater #barshouldereddove #birdwatching #bird #birdphotography #humpbackwhale #furseal #seal #wildlifephotography #wildlife #nikonphotography #ulladulla #southcoast

06.01.2022 Not many posts lately, being in a high risk area meant being in lockdown for 3 months and a lack of mojo to do any editing.
