This post has been shared over 130 times and reached over 40,000 people. So many people have offered their services and we have already had several people drop off timber, paint and hinges. Several people have offered to join forces and help with the build, including another local small business -... CrackerJack Timbers. We appreciate the support of each and every person who has liked, shared and showed compassion and interest for such a tragic catastrophe.Together, we can make a real difference! The first nesting box has been completed tonight and will be taken around to local businesses tomorrow to demonstrate what we are doing and why we need help. Many local businesses have been contacted already and are looking to see what they can do. This box is for a family of sugar gliders and whilst it looks unusually sized has been built to the recommended dimensions by the East Gippsland land care network. It will be painted prior to being sent to its destination.

04.01.2022 URGENT: Bushfire wildlife assistance, can you help us? More than a billion animals have been killed in the bushfires and over 10 million hectares of natural habitat burnt. Wildlife volunteers are doing everything possible to provide food, water and care for surviving animals but the hollows that many small animals and birds desperately need have been destroyed and without the right shelter they may die or fail to breed.... We want to build 50 nesting boxes to suit possums, sugar gliders, birds and owls in wildfire affected areas but we cant do it alone. We need any help we can get with timber and supplies to build the boxes. We are using all profits from our etsy store this month to purchase additional materials and are using all the suitable timber we have here already. Once completed we will transport the boxes to wildlife groups in the affected areas. Combined with the efforts of thousands of other volunteers across the country we can make a real difference. We need help with the following: Large amounts of untreated pine, hardwood or plywood (between 12 and 25mm thick). Maybe you have some offcuts of plywood in your shed that you dont need? Or maybe your workplace has something we could use? It doesnt need to be in great condition, we can make it work. We also need water based exterior paint in pale neutral colours (grey/green etc) as well as hinges we can use in the construction. We are in Belgrave and can pick up from you if you are fairly local or you can drop it off to us. All timber donated will be used to make nesting boxes, we dont have to stop at 50, we'll make 100 if we can! Please help us make a difference to our native wildlife.
