Due to the COVID lockdown, (and to continue to support our Major Sponsor Bad Shepherd Brewing Co.), the club pushed on to can our 2020 club beers... but unfortunately the club hasn't been able to get our new 'GoldenHawk' beers out there to you all due to the restrictions. We are now looking for your assistance in helping us in depleting our liquid gold stock.... It's $65 a slab & the 'Golden Lid' promotion is still in play for a free Bhawk hoodie. 23.01.2022 If you have been following the story of the Olympic Ice Skating Centre reno, you’ll know the team at Next Level Hockey Australia are going to have a white chris...tmas. A good layer of ice is now covering the sand, and they will continue to add more water to build it up in thin layers. Lines will be painted on Wednesday, and another 35mm of ice will be added after Boxing Day. The ice should then be thick enough to support the scissor lift they’ll be using to hang the netting to protect the roof insulation. ______ Photo and story by the rink's roving reporter, Jason Sangwin.

20.01.2022 A message from Lee Gordon - O'Brien Icehouse General Manager To our valued ice sports community, Thank you for your patience and commitment as we continue to ne...gotiate around and prepare for the reopening of the Icehouse. I’m sorry that this process is taking time to resolve. Due to the ongoing uncertainty around the restrictions and their impact, combined with the costs associated with re-opening the facility, O’Brien Group Australia has been in discussions with the State Government regarding assistance and clarification of our future business and operating model. This will ensure that the venue is in a position to continue to support the community in a similar manner as to prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our discussions with the Government are progressing and to this stage have been very positive. We hope we will be in position to provide an update in the near future. Part of our reopening process includes the restoration of the ice a process which takes 20 days. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the whole ice sports community for your loyalty and ongoing support during these challenging times. 06.01.2022 ***** Summer League Announcement ***** IHV has provided some information about summer league so we can firm up our commitments to teams and get organised. Firstly, there is no grading and the club has decided that we are using the summer as a way of reconnecting with everyone as well and some pre-winter skating.... We are putting teams in Div 1, 2, 3 & 4 - very loosely based on our winter grades (also depending on numbers). - Div 1 & 2 are being played on Sunday arvo/night - Div 3 Monday - Div 4 Tuesday - Div 5 Monday - All games are at Oakleigh as OBGA isn’t allocating ice for hockey as yet (not sure when this might occur) & ICEHQ have only provided a very small amount. The cost is expected to be around $250 - $280 - hopefully can confirm that ASAP. We will work towards 15 players per team. All games are no checking - like Winter B. - IHA registration will be required and will cover from January 2021 thru to end of summer 2022. $165 (covers u for IHV Winter and next summer) - (Updated) IHV registration $45 cover through to end of summer 2022 (covers u for IHV Winter 2021) - Season to commence week of January 18th We will try to schedule some practice ASAP (probably $20pp) - All Divs are guaranteed 10 games. Still a few thing to iron out. If you have expressed interest already don’t do it again but let us know if you are now out. Everyone who has responded has tentatively been placed into a side (for planning only - not 100% confirmed). Hopefully we will get some more interest just so we can get some club building and reconnecting. Plus, with you will get a chance to skate on the awesome new rebuilt Oakleigh rink!! 06.01.2022 In 1938, the NSW state ice hockey president, Waddell-Hoban, said it’s a tough game, but injury risk is exaggerated. He’d only seen one player knocked out, only ...one finger cut off by skates, since coming to the sport in the late '20s. There were only two players in the State with overseas experience in 1938: Jim Brown and Reg Jeffries. But that would change forever by the end of the year with the arrival of Bendrodt’s Bears from Canada for the opening of Sydney’s second rink, the Ice Palais. Some of the matches between the Bears and locals were so hard and rough they caused public outrage, and had Mr Harold Waddell-Hoban been returned as president after the war, he would have needed a better statistician to update his remarkably good record of player injuries. State goalie, Scotty Fraser, and snipers Widdy Johnson and Percy Wendt, feature in this Pix magazine spread. Wendt scored more goals than anyone before the war, and Johnson wasn’t far behind.
