25.01.2022 Hi All, Due to the recent developments with COVID-19, weve made the difficult decision to suspend all of our group mat classes and group exercise sessions of 3 or more for the rest of this term. At this stage our clinic is remaining open, with stringent guidelines and restrictions in place to optimise hygiene and the safety of our clients and staff. ... Importantly we are also increasing our availability for telehealth physio. These are online video sessions that you can attend from your own home just like a regular physio session (but without being in the same room!). This is something that weve offered for a while, but now its relevant for more of our clients! Please feel from to contact us with any questions you may have and stay safe! *Heres a link to the most recent advice from the NSW government - issued this morning - Monday 23/03 - https://preview.nsw.gov.au/covid-19 Annabel and the team at Blackheath Physio

25.01.2022 Step 3 of 5 Healthy habits for World Continence Week. GET ENOUGH FLUIDS AND DRINK WELL. Its important to increase fluids when you increase fibre in your diet. Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated helps maintain digestive health. Drinks that contain caffeine, cola and alcohol can irritate your bladder, so water is the best choice.

24.01.2022 Step 2 of 5 Healthy habits for World Continence Week! EAT WELL. Fibre in your diet will help improve bowel function and avoid constipation. Chronic constipation can be detrimental to pelvic health and continence. Fibre is found in foods such as multi grain or whole grain breads, cereal products, fruit, vegetables, legumes, and nuts and seeds. Aim to eat two servings of fruit, five servings of vegetables and five servings of cereals and breads each day.

18.01.2022 Step 1 of 5 Healthy habits for World Continence Week. STAY ACTIVE. Physical activity is beneficial for overall health and that includes bladder and bowel function! Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day. This doesnt have to be all at once. Activities like gardening, cleaning, playing with the grandkids, and taking the stairs all add up.

11.01.2022 There are numerous potential health benefits for women who exercise during and after pregnancy. After all, childbirth is often compared to a marathon and therefore, preparation should be considered. To coincide with #WomensHealthWeek, Vice-chair of Queensland chapter of the Womens, Mens and Pelvic Health group Brooke Dobo, APAM, and Men’s and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Tory Toogood, MACP, contribute five evidence based practice points about the benefits of exercise during ...and after pregnancy. This #infographic is proudly brought to you by the Physiotherapy Research Foundation (#PRF) supporting research translation. 08.01.2022 Step 4 of 5 Healthy habits for World Continence Week. EXERCISE YOUR PELVIC FLOOR. Having a strong pelvic floor is your insurance against incontinence. You can train your pelvic floor anytime, anywhere, no matter what sex, gender, age or fitness level you are. Try to do your pelvic floor muscle exercises every day. See a continence health professional (e.g. womens and mens pelvic health physiotherapist) to learn how.

08.01.2022 Congratulations to Annabel on the safe arrival of her baby boy. Both mum and bub are doing well!

08.01.2022 The perfect combo for a Sunday... empty studio, sleeping baby and Pilates reformer What’s your favorite thing to do when you get a minute to yourself on a Sunday?? #blackheathphysiopilates #pilates #bluemtns #physiotherapy

08.01.2022 Our dance physio Annabel is looking forward to learning some great dance conditioning exercises at the PBT course in March! :)

07.01.2022 Yes, you can still travel to Blackheath Physiotherapy & Pilates for your Physiotherapy appointment if you are a Blue Mountains resident. The 5km rule is for LGA's of concern, not for Blue Mountains residents, who can still travel within the council's boundaries for essential reasons (exercise, groceries, medical appointments). However, we encourage you to change your appointment to Telehealth unless face to face is a must, and we kindly ask that you do not come to the practice if you have travelled east outside the Blue Mountains LGA, in the two weeks before your appointment.

07.01.2022 Some of local kids had a great time yesterday in our air conditioned haze-free studio... we did an obstacle course and sang and danced to our favorite songs! #blackheath #activekids #bluemountains #bushfiresaustralia

06.01.2022 Jeremy is restarting his Mens Stretch and Strengthen Mat Classes from next week Wednesday 1 July at 9am. In order to conform to social distancing regulations, spaces are limited and bookings are required. Please call Reception on 0410 699 698 to book your spot.

05.01.2022 Step 5 of 5 Healthy habits for World Continence Week. PRACTICE GOOD TOILET HABITS. Dont get into the habit of going to the toilet just in case. If you keep emptying your bladder just in case too often, then the bladder may never fill up properly, and shrink a bit. This may give the feeling of needing to go to the toilet more frequently (urge incontinence). A continence physiotherapist can assist you with retraining the bladder.

03.01.2022 We'd like to welcome Aline Filipe to our team at Blackheath Physiotherapy and Pilates. Aline is an APA titled Pelvic, Women’s & Men’s Health Physiotherapist that has a strong passion for advocacy, research, and pelvic health. Aline believes that everyone with a pelvic floor should have access to care regardless of choices, gender and sexuality hence, she is trained in pelvic physiotherapy for women, men (including preparation and rehab after prostate cancer treatment/ prostat...ectomy), children, trans and intersex. Alina has a special interest in pelvic pain, sexual pain and anorectal pain as well as pregnancy and recovery after childbirth (inc. return to exercise). *Aline would like to acknowledge and recognise that people are made with several different anatomies hence for the general population the terms "women" and "men" are loosely used taking into account sex designated at birth. By no means does this mean that the concept and living experience of a "woman"/ "man" is limited to the anatomy at birth. #blackheathphysiotherapyandpilates #thepelvictuner #BecauseEveryoneHasAPelvicFloor #bluemtnsphysio #physiotherapy #physiotherapy #blackheath

02.01.2022 One specific group of individuals that I really love working with are those with forms of EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome).
