19.01.2022 Exciting times ahead, a melbourne man who had cancer of the calcaneus (heel bone) has had his leg saved by doctors who have used a 3D printer to replicate his heel. Very clever as this is an extremely complex junction connecting with many bones. Patients of similar circumstance often resort to amputation & lose their leg below the knee. - in today's herald sun

19.01.2022 Great work to all our patients & extended bayside network that took part in 5 or 15k, lots of raised for multiple charities

18.01.2022 If you have competed in Oxfam 100km Trail event over the weekend and your feet are in a bit of strife don't panic! If you have similar to the below patient's photos, we suggest: - If you have large blisters full of fluid and the pressure of the fluid is causing you pain, use a pin that is sterile and place a hole in the bottom corner of the blister so the fluid is able to drain out, when the blister is empty press excess skin down flat against underlying skin. Place a steril...e dressing over for protection & comfort. - If toes are quite bloody & sore, swab them with betadine all over the skin to prevent infection and help skin dry out, you can do several times a day and wear thongs inside for added cushioning & to keep the floors clean! * If anyone has any further questions please feel free to give us a call, finally well done to all involved

17.01.2022 5 Running Tips that may be helpful for beginners: - try a slight forward lean to encourage momentum ( too upright and you are slowing yourself down) - high leg cadence/ repetitions is easier than over striding, gets your legs pumping & allows for an increase in speed when you improve... - shoulders relaxed and away from your ears, no rounded high shoulders - breath control will help your endurance, try breathing in for two steps out for two (doesn't matter how via mouth or nose whatever feels more natural) once that is comfortable try four steps breathe in four steps breathe out - keep your toenails short and filed to minimise damage/ blisters/ingrown nails Let's get into good routines before the winter weather sets in

16.01.2022 Wow, a Melbourne man's x-ray has shown an African parasite living above his heel after a history of persistent foot pain. Not your average finding...! http://m.theage.com.au//african-parasitic-worm-found-in-ma

08.01.2022 Day 2 of 366, let's go 2016

08.01.2022 Where to start.. I recently got referred a home visit patient who was receiving care with a previous Podiatrist. She had two new pairs of 'custom made' shoes that cost upwards of $300 each that did not fit and was trying to stretch them out herself, she would never complain about receiving help as she grew up an orphan until she was old enough to work as a teen. She could not wear them without pain- to me they were completely impractical and could not accommodate the foot de...formities. This week I was able to organise the store manager of a local Athlete's Foot to come out and meet me with a car full of shoes that I thought were suitable and help fit the patient in her home. This was extremely generous of Athlete's Foot as they usually don't do this sort of thing. The patient was very happy, loving the shoes and took two pairs. Be passionate about your work & help those you can because it is the best feeling to see someone cry or hug you because without your help they would be limited and in my case unable to walk more than a few steps. It really isn't about making money and taking short cuts to benefit yourself. * just a side note the two shoes combined cost less than just one pair of the custom and she had already donated the other pairs that didn't fit to the church!

07.01.2022 Watching people pounding the pavement in incorrect footwear and consequently throwing out their lower limb mechanics is so painful for a Podiatrist! Resisting the urge to stop them & make some suggestions. Be smart, if you have pain in your lower back, hip, knee, ankle or foot during or after a run, your shoes may need looking at

07.01.2022 Thank you to all those that are able to continue to shop local and support local small businesses it is not going unnoticed. We are certainly feeling the support, we appreciate you, thank you!

05.01.2022 Best wishes for an incredible 2020 Our goals for our business are: Recycling - ensuring the products we order/ packaging etc from medical suppliers are recyclable and switch if they are not Less consumption of water, electricity and materials, less waste\ to be more sustainable then we already are - can always do better. Everyone in business big or small should be doing their part for our environment this decade

04.01.2022 Amazing achievement by Kylie one of our patients taking up running and finishing her first Marathon over in New York! Juggling work and a family as well as learning to run distance and coping with injury is really impressive! Straight off the plane today and in for a check up

04.01.2022 So the Spring Racing Carnival is well and truly underway and once again there will be ladies headed home with shoes in hand! Here are a few tips to minimise the damage inflicted on your precious feet: - Try and pick a heel that is slightly thicker ( not a thin stiletto) if you can help it as 12+ hours is a long day to balance your body weight - Try and find a pair you like with an ankle strap as this provides more support and your toes won't be clawing like mad to keep you f...rom sliding off (lucky these are now quite fashionable) - Cushion your forefoot/ ball of foot with a bit of a platform, those that are very thin underneath the toes are more likely to cause pain as the day wears on It is challenging to have an attractive looking shoe you feel great in and have all of these features so two out of the three will definitely help. Happy Racing!

03.01.2022 Best wishes to one of our patient's Bec making her debut in the women's AFL game tonight with Western Bulldogs, huge deal for future generations of women in sport. Congratulations!! #AFLW

01.01.2022 Who knew recent studies are reporting 36% of Aussies have Bunions. In today's Herald Sun, a foot & ankle surgeon talks about the improvements to surgical intervention using new Minimally Invasive surgery which in summary was: - less down time & quicker recovery post op - better results and reduced incidence of bunion returning
