22.01.2022 Police have released further CCTV footage as they continue to investigate the alleged murder of a teenage boy in Sydney’s west earlier this year. About 5.40pm o...n Wednesday 4 August 2021, a teenage boy was found unresponsive with injuries to his head and chest at a home on Perigee Close, Doonside. He was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he later died. Detectives attached to Blacktown Police Area Command established Strike Force Brens to investigate the boy’s death. He has been identified as 16-year-old, Jason Galleghan. Seven people four boys, aged 14, 15 and two aged 13; a 15-year-old girl; a 19-year-old woman; and a 29-year-old man have been charged over their alleged roles in the incident. They all remain before the courts. As inquiries continue, Strike Force Brens investigators have today released new CCTV footage depicting two males walking in the vicinity of the home on Perigee Close, around the time the fatal assault occurred. The first man depicted in the CCTV is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance and is seen wearing a black hooded-jumper, black long pants, white sneakers and carrying a drink bottle. The second man depicted in the CCTV is described as wearing long black pants, a bright red and black hooded-jumper and carrying a black, red and blue item. Blacktown Police Area Commander, Superintendent Steve Egginton, said Strike Force Brens officers are continuing to explore all lines of inquiry into the alleged murder. Strike Force Brens detectives have worked tirelessly to investigate the alleged murder of Jason and will continue to follow all lines of inquiry relating to this matter leaving no stone unturned, Supt Egginton said. At this point in the investigation, police are particularly interested in speaking with two individuals who may have been walking in the vicinity of the home on Perigee Close, Doonside, around the time of the fatal attack. These two men may hold vital information for investigators about the events leading up to Jason’s death on Wednesday 4 August 2021. I urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant you believe it to be, to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers, Supt Egginton said. Jason’s mother, Ms Rachel Galleghan, thanked the community and police for their support following Jason’s death. This is still something that I can’t believe has happened, I’m still coming to terms with the fact that I will never see my precious son Jason again, and that his life was taken at the age of 16, Ms Galleghan said. Jason was such a kind person with a happy spirit; he was loving and generous and helpful to his sisters and to his family and friends. It is just so utterly devastating and heartbreaking that his future has been taken away from him. We have all lost the biggest part of us that can never be replaced, and I would like to ask that the community please continue their support to fight for Jason so that justice is served, Ms Galleghan said. Anyone with information is urged to contact Blacktown Police Station on (02) 9671 9199. Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Brens investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Mrs Tupman fondly remembers her time as a police officer, recounting, ‘I enjoyed every moment. I went to the schools and taught the children about stranger danger, and also directed traffic.’ Assistant Commissioner Webb said, ‘It’s not lost of me the sacrifices and challenges that my predecessors, like Mrs Tupman endured in the past, in building the foundations for policewomen today. I am extremely honoured, along with my senior colleagues to lead the next generation of policewomen across New South Wales.’ Via Traffic and Highway Patrol Command - NSW Police Force

18.01.2022 Prepare your bushfire survival plan, don’t drive through floodwater, swim between the flags, and make sure your home is fire safe this summer these are some o...f the safety tips NSW emergency service agencies have shared ahead of the 2020 summer season. Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott today joined emergency services leaders on Sydney Harbour to issue the timely reminder, as people begin decorating their homes for Christmas, planning holidays in regional NSW and enjoying warm days by the water. Aussie summers are iconic, but they can also be tragic. Last year, we had a horror bushfire season. This year, we’re expecting a wet and wild summer. But bushfires and storms are not the only threats we face, Mr Elliott said. I urge you to use the start of summer as a start of a conversation with your friends and families about being prepared for seasonal hazards. Especially this year, as experts warn of a La Niña summer. NSW Police Force Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys said summer is a particularly busy time of year for all emergency services and urged the community to put safety first. Police will be out and about - on the streets, on our roads, in, on and around the water, and even in the air. If we all put safety first, our holidays will be remembered for all the right reasons," Deputy Commissioner Worboys said. NSW SES Commissioner Carlene York said there have been more than 500 rescue requests this year from people who have risked their lives by driving through floodwaters. You wouldn’t run into a bushfire, so never drive, walk or ride through flood water it’s incredibly dangerous for both you and the volunteers rescuing you. It’s vital to know your flood risk and have an emergency plan in place, Commissioner York said. NSW RFS Commissioner Rob Rogers said last summer’s bushfire season was a stark reminder of the dangers of fire and the importance of early planning and preparation. Last summer’s bushfires destroyed 2,476 homes and claimed 26 lives in NSW. Every family should have a five-minute conversation about important decisions like when to leave and what to take if a fire threatens your home, Commissioner Rogers said. Fire and Rescue NSW Assistant Commissioner Paul McGuiggan said decorative lights and summer barbecues also pose a fire risk around the home. Make sure you have a sufficient number of working smoke alarms throughout your home that are tested regularly and are supported by a written home escape plan, Assistant Commissioner McGuiggan said. NSW Surf Life Saving CEO Steve Pearce reiterated the importance of water safety. Only swim at patrolled beaches, stay between the red and yellow flags, always check conditions before heading out, wear a life jacket when boating or rock fishing, and be sure to keep an eye on your mates, Mr Pearce said. Marine Rescue Commissioner Stacey Tannos said they’re ready for a record summer on the water as more people stay home instead of heading overseas on holidays. Boaters should always Log On with Marine Rescue when heading out and Log Off when they return on VHF Channel 16 or the free Marine Rescue App. It’s quick and simple and gives you the reassurance that our volunteers are watching out for your safe return, Commissioner Tannos said. Find out more about the steps you can take to Get Ready for summer at https://resilience.nsw.gov.au/prepare.html

11.01.2022 NSW recorded one new locally acquired case of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. This case is a returned traveller who was in quarantine in the Sofite...l Wentworth hotel on the same floor as the security guard who was reported on Sunday and another returned traveller in quarantine who previously tested positive. Genomic sequencing links all three cases. Six new cases were acquired overseas, bringing the total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 5,059. One previously reported case has been excluded following further investigation. There were 14,255 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 6,257. The latest case tested positive yesterday during additional follow-up testing carried out as part of NSW Health’s extensive investigations into the source and nature of the transmission to the security guard. The new case was on the same floor as the previously reported case in the returned traveller and on which the security guard worked. All other returned travellers on the same floor have tested negative to date. Genome sequencing results indicate this latest case matches the strain found in the other hotel quarantine guest and the security guard. This strain is the more transmissible B1.1.7 variant of the virus. Investigations into the nature of the transmission continue, but NSW Health can confirm that there is no shared air-conditioning between the rooms, which all have their own units. The units also do not connect to the corridor. NSW Health on Sunday reported the case in the security guard, who had worked in the hotel on 6 and 7 March, following routine surveillance testing. It is believed the security guard was likely infected by the first guest, who arrived at the hotel on 5 March. All three positive cases are now being cared for in the Special Health Accommodation and all those who were staying or working on the same floor of the hotel during the exposure periods remain in quarantine. Close contacts of the security guard, including their household contacts, have all tested negative to date and will continue to self-isolate for 14 days. Testing of staff at both quarantine hotels where the security guard worked has also not identified any additional cases. A full list of the exposure venues associated with the case announced on Sunday can be viewed here: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates These cases underscore the need for continued community vigilance for any signs and symptoms that could be COVID-19. It is critical that everyone continues to practise COVID-safe behaviours and seek testing with even the mildest of cold-like symptoms. The NSW Government has announced that, as of 12:01am this morning, drinking while standing up at indoor venues, pubs and clubs across NSW is now allowed. Under Public Health Orders, all pubs, clubs, small bars, cellar doors, breweries, distilleries, karaoke bars and casinos in NSW must complete a COVID-19 Safety Plan. NSW Health is treating 51 COVID-19 cases. There is one patient with COVID-19 currently in ICU, although this person’s admission is unrelated to the virus.

11.01.2022 A man has been charged and a clandestine laboratory uncovered following a police operation on the Central Coast yesterday. A crime scene was established, and the area was rendered safe by NSW Fire and Rescue HAZMAT crews. Specialist police from the Drug and Firearms Squads Chemical Operations Team attended and examined the property, which is currently in the process of being dismantled. In a subsequent search of the property, investigators also located cash, a rifle, a replica pistol, ammunition and prohibited drugs. All items seized will undergo further examination. A 40-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station, where he was charged with 10 offences, including possess prohibited drug, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs, supply indictable quantity prohibited drug, possess ammunition without licence, possess unauthorised firearm, not keep firearm safely and goods in custody suspected stolen. 08.01.2022 With many taking part in satellite motorcycle rides, the police family has come together online to commemorate the annual Wall to Wall: Ride for Remembrance. Th...e charity event, first held in 2010, is a police memorial motorcycle ride that honours the service and sacrifices of fallen Australian police, raises funds in support of fallen officers families and promotes road safety. Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb, joined former Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy and Wall to Wall NSW president, Acting Superintendent Ben Macfarlane, for an intimate ceremony in The Domain this morning (Saturday 12 September 2020). Assistant Commissioner Webb said that, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, there was still an overwhelming support from the community for the ride. We do acknowledge members of the police family that are unable to be with us due to the current restrictions, Assistant Commissioner Webb said. Although they are not here with us physically, we know that we have the support of our police family across the country. Its a very solemn occasion as we remember five police officers killed across the country, including the tragic passing of Constable Aaron Vidal from Sydney City Police Area Command. Following the ceremony, a small physically-distanced group of police motorcyclists began the ride from The Domain to the National Police Memorial in Canberra today. A total of 1300 people have registered, despite not being able to participate the official ride. Many have instead organised their own satellite rides in small groups before viewing the live streamed ceremony from Canberra. The names of any officers who have died in the past year are added to the National Wall of Remembrance. All funds raised during the Wall to Wall ride by the NSW contingent will go toward NSW Police Legacy. NSW Police Legacy provides care and support to more than 20,000 serving and retired police officers and their families during times of tragedy and need. 05.01.2022 Two people have been charged with large commercial drug supply, and police have seized more than 3000 cannabis plants and nine stolen vehicles, as part of an on...going investigation into drug cultivation and distribution in the Nambucca Valley. In April this year, officers from Coffs Harbour Region Enforcement Squad established Strike Force Anketell to investigate a criminal group involved in the large-scale cultivation, manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs across northern NSW. The Strike Force was also investigating an alleged shooting incident at Kalang on Sunday 26 April 2020. Their inquiries uncovered properties near Coffs Harbour being used to cultivate cannabis and store stolen goods, including vehicles. Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with assistance from the Tactical Operations Unit, arrested two men and a woman aged 41, 36 and 21 at a rural property in Thora, about 47km south-west of Coffs Harbour, about 6am yesterday (Wednesday 16 September 2020). They were taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station. Strike force investigators executed a search warrant at the Thora property, with assistance from the Drug and Firearms Squads Cannabis Team and Chemical Operations Unit, and local police. During the search, police located three separate cannabis crops and seized almost 3300 mature plants, with an estimated potential street value of more than $6.5 million. They also seized 50 grams of methylamphetamine, cannabis leaf and 3kg of MDMA, with an estimated potential street value of $165,000. A second search warrant was executed simultaneously at a rural property in Missibotti, with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad, Northern Region Operation Support Group and the Financial Crimes Squads Motor Unit. Police located more than 180 vehicles and prohibited drugs, including one litre of GBL, cannabis and methylamphetamine. Initial inquiries suggest that nine vehicles, two trailers and a motor bike are believed to be stolen. The 41-year-old man was charged with discharge firearm with intent, use unauthorised firearm, possess unauthorised firearm, manufacture prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), manufacture prohibited drug (indictable quantity not cannabis), cultivate prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), supply prohibited drug (x3) and knowingly direct activities of criminal group The 36-year-old man was charged with discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, manufacture prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), cultivate prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and participate in criminal group. 02.01.2022 SOLAR PANEL FIRES | We are urging residents with solar panels to remain aware and vigilant after an influx in solar panel fires this year. This footage was obta...ined from a neighbour in Glenwood who called Triple Zero (000) after noticing a house nearby had solar panels alight. This was one of six solar panel fires that Fire and Rescue NSW attended in the past week alone. These statistics show solar panel fires are up 20 percent compared to last year and continuing to rise. Isolation switches appear to be causing almost half of solar panel fires, so it is vital to ensure solar panels are installed and regularly maintained by a professional and that systems comply with Australian Standards. Always do a licence check with NSW Fair Trading before any installation and wiring takes place. This can be found at https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels. #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #PreparedForAnything
