24.01.2022 It’s almost lights out on day 1 of Camp Champion at BIEEC! After an early start, and lots of road works, we finally made it to Boyne Island. This afternoon we worked out our personality and learning types using Aus Identities, decided whether we were doing the Mt Larcom climb or a 10km canoe expedition, and participated in some ice breaker activities. Tonight we powered down with some games and a beautiful dinner and dessert.

22.01.2022 A reminder to parents regarding school drop offs and pick ups that the section of Elm Street from the corner of Box Street to the pedestrian crossing is a NO STANDING zone. Please only park from the edge of the fenced kerb up past the crossing up to the daycare centre. If you park west of the pedestrian crossing, cars cannot see students who are walking out onto the crossing making it dangerous for these students. If there is no room in the pick up zone, please continue driving down Fern St and use Boonery St to come back for another pass. You can also park at the back of the school along Bauman Way or Yeates Av and have your child exit through the back gates.

22.01.2022 Our 2020 seniors are some of the most resilient. They made the best of a rainy situation, and kept their beautiful big smiles going and made the most of walk-ins. Congratulations 2020 Seniors!!

Some very important information regarding the camp: 1) The camp has confirmed that a sleeping bag is not required as they will have their linens and bath towels all supplied. This includes those staying in the Safari Tents.... 2) It is imperative that campers bring a backpack for our excursions to Mount Larcom and canoeing. 3) All campers must be at the front of the school with their bags ready to be loaded by 6:30 AM on Monday. If you have not yet returned your COVID-19 form handed out this week, you cannot jump on the bus. Please return by tomorrow at 3PM to Mr Paterson 4) All medications required need to be packed in ziplock/sandwich bags and given to Mr Paterson before you get on the bus. 5) Mozzie spray (non-aerosol) is highly recommended. 6) During camp, urgent contact with campers should be made through the BIEEC office on (07) 4851 0333. Non-urgent matters can be emailed through to [email protected]. If you are interested in getting a sneak peak into the camp layout, including cabins, check out the BIEEC website @ https://boyneislandeec.eq.edu.au/ and scroll down to their interactive virtual tour. Happy camping!

05.01.2022 #TeamMagnus conquered Mount Larcom today in the ultimate challenge. The team put fear aside and all of them made it to the top. This definitely pushed some of our students out of their comfort zone, and we are all so incredibly proud of them. We are finishing our last night at camp around the fire playing some games.

04.01.2022 Our school office staff will be in training all day tomorrow during the student free day. Please be advised the office will be closed and phones unable to be answered all day.

02.01.2022 Today Blackwater State High School celebrated the achievements of our students through special junior and senior Awards Parades. Congratulations to all the students who received an award this year. Like many of you, we were disappointed to not be able to hold our formal Awards Evening this year. Due to the COVID restrictions for school functions we had to limit parent invitations to just students receiving the special awards. We understand that some parents are upset that th...ey missed out on seeing their child receive their Top of Subject, Merit and Distinction certificates. Rest assured we have taken photographs of all students receiving awards. We will endeavour to post all photos of students with Image Release Agreements over the next few days. I am sure, like me, you are extremely grateful that our communities have remained relatively COVID free while across the world the pandemic is still causing considerable damage. Thank you for your patience, cooperation and understanding as we yet again adjust to the ‘new’ normal. Thanks also must go to all of our sponsors for the awards.

01.01.2022 Tonight we had students begging us to go to bed, and students negotiating later wake up times! I think it’s safe to say that a great day was had by all students. #TeamFortis conquered the 10km canoe expedition. We were challenged and had to push past our fears as we paddled head on into the wind. #TeamMagnus participated in low ropes, team building activities, virtual reality and raft building. Tomorrow #TeamMagnus bus to Mt Larcom and trek to the summit , whilst #TeamFortis participate in activities at the centre. It’s lights out here at BIEEC, goodnight!

01.01.2022 During lunch on 20 August, the students of Blackwater State High School had their opportunity to support the school’s staff in their 42K Your Way Challenge for the Children's Hospital Foundation by doing laps of the oval. Mrs Godfrey offered to donate $25 for every 42km the student body as a whole completed during the lunchtime. The student body didn’t disappoint, with a large number of students walking and running the course with 1000 laps of the oval completed, raising $125 for the cause. It is great to see the students giving up their time to contribute to others. We are also running the Resilience Project through our home class this year, which focusses on Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness and this event is a great opportunity for students to show empathy to others through giving their time to raise money for sick kids.
