24.01.2022 23rd November 2020 COVID, COVID, COVID: An Update To describe last week as eventful is something of an understatement, from both a personal and church perspective:- businesses shut down, aged care facilities locked down, outside exercise prohibited, people confined to home; community classes shut down and external room hire put on hold; church activities, such as Playgroup, Mainly Music and face-to-face worship cancelled; the church closed, with Michael, Jacqui and Tim work...ing from home; and Sunday worship back to pre-recorded format. Deep breaths. In and out, in and out Having experienced a mild case of whiplash from the rapid about-turn from total shutdown, we need to review and clarify our current response at Blackwood Uniting Church. We continue to respond to prevailing circumstances, government regulations, and Synod guidance in relation to COVID. Our response is in keeping with our overall intent to treat the pandemic and our responsibilities seriously. The current plan (which we know from past experience may be subject to change at short notice) is as follows:- Face-to-face Sunday worship to recommence this coming Sunday 29th November (first Sunday of Advent) for both 9.15am and 11.00am faith communities. Church activities, such as Roundabout Playgroup, Mainly Music can recommence in the week starting Monday 30th November. This will be the last week of the year for Mainly Music. Other church activities which use the church building, such as Bible groups and cluster groups can, if desired, recommence in the week starting Monday 30th November. Community classes to recommence in the week starting Monday 30th November. This will be the last week of the year. External hire to recommence in the week starting Monday 30th November. It is the intention, at this stage, to go ahead with the last Messy Church for the year on Sunday 6th December. We will keep you apprised of any changes to the above. Michael Dowling Chris Bray Minister Church Council Chair

24.01.2022 Word for the Week We shrink from change, yet is there anything that can come into being without it? What does nature hold dearer or more proper to herself? Could you have a hot bath unless the firewood underwent some change? Do you not see, then, that change in yourself is of the same order, and no less necessary, to nature? Marcus Aurelius 121-180 CE Roman Emperor and philosopher

21.01.2022 Word for the Week Hopemust spring to life spontaneously in every generous spirit faced by the task that awaits us; and it’s also the essential impulse, without which nothing can be done. A passionate longing to grow, to be, is what we need. Life is ceaseless discovery. Life is movement. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin A French idealist philosopher and Jesuit Catholic priest who trained as a palaeontologist and geologist and took part in the discovery of the Peking Man.

09.01.2022 Word for the Week For the person who sees nothing at the end of the world, nothing higher that themselves, daily life can only be filled with pettiness and boredom. So much fruitless effort, so many wasted moments!
