25.01.2022 1 Timothy 3: 10-17 https://bit.ly/3vHyoUw

25.01.2022 This Sunday we have James speaking to us on Luke 9: 1-6. There will be new activities for kids in the air-conditioned chapel and our new creche available for parents, with the service streamed in, so you don’t miss a thing. And after the service, we have free bottles of water and ice blocks to help you cool down as you catch up with friends, old and new. Church is about meeting with God in worship, loving one another and being sent out to serve the world.... Hope to see you in person or online. https://blackwoodcc.org.au/live-stream/

25.01.2022 On Friday our friend Laurel Moore, turned 95. We took this opportunity to ask Laurel if she had any advice for following Jesus. Happy Birthday Laurel.

24.01.2022 The office is a hive of activity today preparing for this Sunday’s service. Many people - both staff and volunteers - have put a lot of work into shaping a service that promises to be encouraging, convincing, comforting and meaningful. For my part, I’ll be leading us through part four of our series What is God Saying? Once again, this week we’re looking practically at what it means to hear the voice of God, and how you can hear from Him without being crazy. The message will ...be easy to understand and engage with even if you haven’t heard parts one through to three. However, if you’d like to catch up, you can at https://blackwoodcc.org.au/what-is-god-saying/. It’s all happening 10am Sunday morning: live here at the church or online at www.blackwoodcc.org.au/live-stream. We’d love to see you then.

24.01.2022 Join us this Sunday (tomorrow) to celebrate/commiserate the end of the school holidays! We're meeting as per usual at 10am on Sunday. Mike Haynes is speaking on the New Testament letter,2 John. The letter is short, but it packs a punch. Mike does a great job getting the ideas of the letter across and driving home their implications for us today. To find out more - and, of course, to share in communion, prayers and songs together - comealong to the church in personortune in online. God bless

22.01.2022 This Sunday we will be worshipping ONLINE and IN PERSON! we will be reflecting back on our theme for the year: Experience God. Our hope for the year was that we would encounter God and experience His profound love, joy, hope and peace. It’s our aim for this service too - that through the call to worship, singing, prayers, communion and sermon, we might all be made aware of God’s presence with us, that it would awaken us, lift up our eyes and transform us. I’m confident it wi...ll be very significant for us all in this unusual time. Every week throughout its history the church has done whatever it can to meet together and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. And this week won’t be any different. We’ve just finished filming a video service, which you can engage with on Sunday in two ways: Stay at home. Sunday morning grab your cracker or bread and juice for communion and head to our live stream (https://blackwoodcc.online.church) just before 10am. It will take you to our online church site. From there you can watch along and engage with the service. Jump on the chat to say ‘hi’ - I’d love to hear from you. Watch the service in the Chapel. The recent relaxing of restrictions means that we can have up to 80 people in the chapel on Sunday morning. You can come along and join in with others as we watch the service video together. (Given the short notice of today’s SA Health announcement, we won’t have any live music, Kidzone or communal singing.) We want you to remain connected and safe and encourage you to consider engaging with the service from home this week.

21.01.2022 This week we're continuing in Luke's gospel: looking at Luke 7:1-17, You're not the Hero of this Story. It's all about how to make sense of the world and the freedom and joy that comes from realising it's not all about us. We're gearing up here in the office for another great Sunday. Around the world churches will be recognising 'Refugee Sunday' this weekend. Here at Blackwood, we'll be sharing stories of God at work in the lives of refugees, praying for those who still long... for peace and security and inviting you to action in response. If you haven't been around the church for a while, I encourage you to give it a go. If you've been thinking about inviting a friend to check out one of our services, I encourage you to do that too. It takes up less than an hour Sunday morning, but the impact could last a lifetime. The service starts at 10am. For information on the live, in-person service, head to https://www.blackwoodcc.org.au/live-stream

21.01.2022 This Sunday morning we’re fortunate to have Churches of Christ SA State Minister, Peter Barney bringing a message on the, 'Lamb of God' from Revelation chapter 5. And of course, we will also have the opportunity to encounter God in readings, prayers and communion. Not to be missed! The service kicks off at 10am. You can tune in online or come along in person.

21.01.2022 Stations of the Cross #10 Jesus is Crucified We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. Because by your holy Cross ... You have redeemed the world. He went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgatha. There they crucified him. (John 19:17-18) The last awful step in the journey of death is about to be taken. Jesus is laid on the ground, his arms spread out, so his wrists are on the ends of the cross bar. A spike is driven through each of his wrist bones. The pain is excruciating. Jesus’ body is hoisted into place, its weight pressing on his rib cage and lungs, making it almost impossible to breathe. A spike is driven through his feet and into the heel bones. With painful effort the condemned can push up on the spike in his feet to catch his breath, but to do so only prolongs the agony.

20.01.2022 As you're aware, this Sunday is Father's Day (and if you weren't aware, you're welcome for the reminder.) We have a special Father's Day spot in our service that will be great for people of all ages. For the sermon, we're continuing in the gospel of Luke. I'm asking the question 'Is Jesus Enough?' based on Luke 7:18-35. It touches on a question I'm sure we've all asked at some stage, 'what is the answer to all our problems?' Head to https://blackwood.org.au/live-stream to fi...nd out more about attending the service (10am Sunday) in person, including information on our Creche for preschoolers and KidZone kids church for primary school aged students. We're trialing an exciting new online platform this week, which will allow you to chat to others and ask for prayer throughout the service. (Just a heads up if you are wondering why things look a little different!) God bless

20.01.2022 Come along and join in with others in person this Sunday morning at 10am in the chapel or join in online at www.blackwoodcc.org.au/live-stream. In this season of changing social distancing requirements, we've had to think on our feet again. Last week, SA Health requirements meant we had to cancel post-service tea and coffee for the foreseeable future; this week we've had to do the same with congregational singing. This Sunday, we'll have some live music for reflection but n...o congregational singing. We will still worship God together in ways that are engaging and significant and we'll still catch up and care for one another (even without the hot beverage). James is preaching on the end of Jesus' 'sermon on the mount' as recounted in Luke - Luke 6:43-49. The passage is a stirring challenge that wakes us up from the 'rat race' that is everyday life.

19.01.2022 Need a little bit of certainty and stability this week? Join Blackwood Church of Christ this Sunday morning 10am either in person or online. We're sharing in prayers, reading, singing and communion - things Christians have done faithfully, joyfully and consistently for nearly two thousand years. They remind us that whatever is going on in our world, God is a firm foundation. Speaking of stable foundations, our Associate Minister, Craig Schultz-Vlaholias, is sharing on Mark 12:28-34. If you're wondering what to do with your life, it doesn't get much simpler or more profound than this passage.

19.01.2022 "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds..." ~~~~ "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. Bu...t when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." James 1:2-6

18.01.2022 Stations of the Cross #8 Jesus is Helped by Simon We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. Because by your holy Cross... You have redeemed the world. They compelled a passer-by who was coming in from the country to carry his cross. It was Simon of Cyrene. (Mark 15:21) By now there is a real chance that Jesus might die under the weight of the cross. That would never do. The whole idea of crucifixion in the slow and painful death that hanging on the cross produces. As the body hangs suspended from wrists nailed to the cross-bar, the pressure on the rib cage creates a slow asphyxiation. It is like a very slow drowning, gasping for one shallow painful breath after another. All the while the muscles of the arms and legs cramp and spasm from lack of oxygen. Saving Jesus from dying on the road is only preparation for a more painful death on the cross. Against his will, Simon contributes to Jesus’ torture.

18.01.2022 Stations of the Cross #9 Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. Because by your holy Cross ... You have redeemed the world. A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. Jesus turned to them and said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and your children. (Luke 23:27-28) If some of the people of Jerusalem join the sport of tormenting the condemned on their way to execution, others engage in loud lamentation and weeping on their behalf. They think they are doing an act of charity in grieving for the condemned prisoners. Perhaps it’s a patriotic protest, since the Romans are the executioners and the condemned are always Jews. But whatever the reason, imagine their surprise when Jesus turns the tables on them, and encourages them to grieve for themselves and for their children, rather than for him! A chill must have gone down their spines! Suddenly this is no idle protest, it is an encounter with death their own!

17.01.2022 Rain, hail, shine or snow, we're ready to go Sunday morning. We invite you to engage with our weekly worship service at 10am. Take that hour out of your week to slow down, take a breath and remember what is important. We're looking forward to some great input from our Associate Minister, Craig, as he speaks on Matthew 21:23-27 with the theme 'AQuestion of Authority'.We're also looking forwardto the chance to encounter God and respond through communion, prayers and song. Come along to the church to catch up with friends and be a part of it all in person, or jump online to participate from the comfort of your home. God bless

15.01.2022 I hope you’ve been able to grab a moment to catch your breath after the craziness of last week. I’ve heard from some of you that the lockdown was a nice break and from others that it was stressful and difficult. We hope and pray that you’ve come through it well and won’t have to do it again. With the relaxing of restrictions, You can join us live and in person for the worship service 10am on Sunday There will be some minor changes to the worship service. Current restrictions... mean we can have no more than 80 people in the chapel at once. If more than 80 people arrive, our service can still be viewed via live-stream in the foyer. While our service will have live music, we have decided to avoid congregational singing for at least this week given that we are not entirely ‘out of the woods’ with the recent COVID cluster. (We believe the choir rehearsal can go ahead as only 12 people will be present, and they’ll be spread out throughout the chapel to go above and beyond with their physical distancing.) Thank you for your care, understanding and support. These are frustrating times, but we are very grateful that we can still meet together to worship and to support one another in peace and safety. Please get in touch if you have any questions, or if you want a chat. God bless, James

15.01.2022 For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,... Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

15.01.2022 This week we're looking at how we experience God in worship. Can we experience God without singing together in person? (Spoiler: absolutely!) We have so much information coming at us all day every day. It can be hard to figure out what is important and what is marginal, what to ignore and what to invest in. Take an hour out this Sunday morning at 10:00am to gain some perspective. You can either join us in person at the church or online. ... We hope to see you then. And remember, we always love to hear from you. P.S. Hot tip to those tuning in to online church: arrive 10 minutes early for some songs to sing along to.

14.01.2022 This Sunday is part two of Aaron Chalmers' mini series Learning to Love Leviticus. Part one was one of our most popular online services while we were in lockdown, so make sure you don't miss out on this. Aaron manages to distill years of postgraduate study of the Old Testament into an accessible sermon that makes sense of part of the Bible that we often find odd or confusing. Follow this link if you want to catch up on part 1: https://drive.google.com//1Cl5Oh0LYqOMsBZpnV4sMI...HaYl/view There are two ways to participate in our service this Sunday: Come in person, 10am Sunday to the church building. There will be live worship music, communion, creche and kidzone kids church. We've also just installed a live stream of the service in the foyer, just in case we have more people come along than can fit in the chapel. Unfortunately, due to a change in SA Health guidelines, we cannot offer tea or coffee after the service, but you are still invited to hang around for a chat... while distancing :) Tune in online. This is what I'll be doing this Sunday! Get your cracker and juice ready before 10am and then jump over to http://www.blackwoodcc.org.au/live-stream and follow the instructions there. It couldn't be easier.

13.01.2022 This Sunday we start Summer Church. James will be bringing a message on Luke 8: 40-56. There will be new activities for kids in the air-conditioned chapel and our new creche available for parents, with the service streamed in, so you don’t miss a thing. And after the service, we have free bottles of water and ice blocks to help you cool down as you catch up with friends, old and new. Church is about meeting with God in worship, loving one another and being sent out to serve t...he world. And that’s just what we’ll be doing with Summer Church. Hope to see you in person or online! https://blackwoodcc.org.au/live-stream/

11.01.2022 This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent - a four week season of preparation in the lead up to Christmas. Christmas is the climax of the story of the universe: the point in history at which it becomes clear that goodness, beauty, love and joy will win out in the end. To prepare ourselves to celebrate Christmas, throughout Advent we’re reminding ourselves of ‘the Story So Far..’. That is, we’re taking a (very) quick look at history from the beginning of time until the first... Christmas (I said it would be quick!). This week we start at the very beginning: creation. Join us as we explore how the story of the universe starts and the implications it has for us here and now. You can engage with our service, 10am Sunday, in two ways: 1. come along to our physical location. We can fit 80 people in the chapel, with room for more in the foyer. 2. or tune into the live-stream, jump on the chat and be a part of our service from home. Whichever way you join in, we look forward to catching up with you Sunday. Stay cool and God bless,

09.01.2022 This Sunday at Blackwood, we're doing things a little differently. We're taking a break from our series on the gospel of Luke for a once off sermon Bad Reason: three reasons for unbelief that don't quite work, and one that almost does. If you are philosophically minded and enjoy asking the big questions about life, this one's for you. (And if you're not, you'll still get something out of it!) Come along or tune in online to find out what it is all about - and of course to sing, pray and share in communion together.

05.01.2022 This Sunday (tomorrow) we hit the trifecta: the middle weekend of the school holidays, a long weekend and the start of daylight savings. It's a big day, so we're pulling out all the stops. We have a couple of video items in our service (one for kids in particular) that you won't want to miss. On top of that, we've got a slightly different way of looking at the church prayer and a sermon on one of Jesus' most famous parables, the parable of the sower (Luke 8:4-15). It's about the effectiveness of the word of God and it's power to transform lives. Whether you are at home or away, you're invited to 'come along'. Be sure to set your clocksforwardSaturday nightand be ready for 10am Sunday morning. Meet us in person or head to our online stream! God bless.

02.01.2022 This week James will be preaching from Luke 7:36-50 on the theme of the Loving Forgiven. (It's a beautiful and confronting passage, we encourage you to have a look at it over the next couple of days). We're hoping and praying that you'll be encouraged and comforted by the service this week, however you engage in it. If you'd like to come along in person, we'd love to see your face, and if you'd like to engage online we hope very much that you feel equally as connected with u...s, online and in person start at 10am on Sunday and both are great opportunities to meet with God and with others.
