25.01.2022 Although its still quite warm, its time to start preparing for the change in season....

24.01.2022 If youre heading to the beach today with your dog to enjoy the sunshine, watch out for washed-up toxic Sea Hares. These slimy creatures can get to approximately 30cm in length and can be hard to see in amongst the sea weed. They emit a toxin strong enough to cause over-excitement, tremors, seizures, drooling, vomiting, or death. If you believe your dog has licked or ingested a Sea Hare, please contact a vet right away. ... Video courtesy of Jan Emerson Marra.

21.01.2022 Follow up from a client concerned that their pet has come in contact with Covid-19. The best information that we have received is to thoroughly wash the dog in shampoo. The shampoo will break down the virus in the same way as soap does when hand-washing. Everything associated with the pet should also be disinfected or washed in the same way. We thought we would share this with everyone. Keep safe.

17.01.2022 Comment with the last photo you took of your pet...

17.01.2022 Yay, its official. We all know vets are essential but the government has now recognised us as an essential service during the COVID 19 crisis. This means we will certainly be able to work through this with you, our valued clients, while we wait for everything to normalise. Meanwhile, we need to stay well so that we can continue to serve you. To this end, please follow the guidelines below: 1 Use the hand sanitiser at the door before entering.... 2 If you are unwell, stay at home. Additionally, do not break any legally imposed quarantine or isolation requirements to visit us. If your pet is unwell, please phone and we will advise. 3 Maintain 1.5 metres between yourself and our staff or other patrons at all times. 4 Make sure all dogs are on a secure lead and other pets in secure carriers. 5 Please stay behind the black lines until asked to approach the counter. The counter, EFTPOS machine, door handles and any other "touched" items will be disinfected after EVERY client. 6 Limit the number of people who accompany your pet. We will only allow one person in the consult room with the vet. Please dont bring the family. 7 Avoid touching stock unless you are committed to buying it. 8 We prefer card over cash payment if at all possible. This is due to the high infection potential involved in handling cash. 9 If you need medication, please call ahead so we have time to organise it for you. Remember that it is a Vet Board requirement that we check your pet at least every six months before supplying repeat medications. If we can help you with deliveries, or advice, please phone to discuss. Finally, as you will appreciate, all of this extra cleaning and different handling procedures takes extra time, so we ask for your understanding and patience if things take a little longer than usual. Please help us to help you and your pets stay healthy and safe.

16.01.2022 Still have chocolate hanging around from Easter? Remember not to leave it somewhere that your pet can get to. We are always happy to help you dispose of this.

15.01.2022 Just like us humans, dogs and cats have deciduous (baby) teeth that usually fall out to make way for the adult teeth. With the exception of the canine teeth, which have a long root, most baby teeth are lost when the cap/crown is shed before the adult tooth comes through. In the case of Mila, a three years old Toy Poodle, who visited us today, she had two retained caps - the remains of her baby teeth that were stuck over the top of the adult teeth. This video shows Dr John e...asily removing one of the caps. Mila then had her teeth scaled and polished in the usual way. Thanks to Milas pet parents for allowing us to share this interesting case, and thank you for entrusting us with your lovely little girl. She was a pleasure.

03.01.2022 Today is lost dog awareness day. We are always happy to scan lost pets for microchips and attempt to reunite them with their owners. Un-chipped animals are always best being held safely by the rangers, as this is the usual place owners look for their pets. It is hard to find a pet if it is in someone elses back yard! ... The days of unclaimed pets being euthanased are well behind us and, nowadays, most unclaimed pets are re-homed through rescue organisations such as SAFE and BARRC.
