19.01.2022 ****MEET OUR CONSULTANT SERIES**** MEET STEPHANIE, OUR NEWEST MELBOURNE 'RECRUIT' Stephanie is our newest 'recruit' to join the Blake Oliver team. ... Starting in February this year Stephanie and has hit the ground running. Prior to joining us, Stephanie worked at Marsh for 10 years. Stephanie specialises in broking, underwriting and claims recruitment. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her two young girls, Lottie is 14 months and Grace 4 years old, as well as enjoying fine food and wine. Below is a Q & A to get to know Steph a little more. 1) What is your role at Blake Oliver and in what circumstances would I come to you for something? I am a recruitment consultant, specialising in general insurance, broking, claims and risk management. 2) Are you an early-bird or a night owl? I am definitely not an early bird, but unfortunately with two young children I have to be. No need to set an alarm in my household! 3) What was your first job? Target checkout chick 4) What is a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it? Not listening to my intuition and instincts. When something doesn't feel right, it usually isn't. I have learnt over the years to listen more to that. 5) What is a work related accomplishment you are really proud of? Being asked back after leaving a company for 6 months, and a newly created role was made for me. It made me feel like all the hard work paid off and I was appreciated. 6) What led you to this career? Prior to my 10 years at Marsh, my first corporate job was at a executive recruitment firm. I enjoyed the excitement of the industry and had always thought I would end up back in recruitment. It also runs in my blood, with family in the same industry, it was probably inevitable :) 7) What is one thing people dont know about you? I have a twin sister and was born in the UK. 8) What is the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from? What goes around comes around, if you work hard, good things will happen. I received this advice early on in my corporate career from my manager. She worked hard herself and spent a lot of time mentoring me and helping me learn the ropes and build my profile. 9) If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be? A food and wine connoisseur! Eat and drink great wine and food without the price tag! But this would need to be for more than one day. There are many others I would love to be for a day, too many to list really. Stephanie can be contacted on 0402 434 519 / [email protected] for all recruitment needs and personal career moves.

05.01.2022 SOCIAL DISTANCING VS PHYSICAL DISTANCING The Australian Government are referring to social distancing in relation to avoiding contact with other people. This term is seen on every TV channel and social media platforms, all day long. Social distancing is effective in reducing physical contact between people and can limit the spread of Covid-19, but only the distancing part of this term is what is crucial.... We still need to remain social, but in a different way than BC (before coronavirus). Being isolated can have negative effects on a persons mental health, with long periods of isolation causing an increase in anxiety and depression. At times like these, it is important and vital to remain socially connected. Staying connected with others will make us happier, healthier, and more socially responsible as we fight against this crisis. Lets start referring to the term physical distancing instead. The insurance and recruitment world, like many other industries, networking is imperative. We cant let this go. We just must adapt to new ways of staying socially connected, not just in our work life, but in our personal lives. Here are some tips and ways to stay socially connected with each other Set up regular video call meetings Make the calls fun, such as setting a challenge, or doing a trivia quiz Say Good Morning to team mates as if you are in the office Try to video call instead of voice calling whenever you can Have an end of week social work call (no work talk allowed) Group video with friends over a wine or beer or any drink of your choice At Blake Oliver, we are all working remotely across the country. To stay socially connected, we have introduced our Virtual Pub each Thursday afternoon. We all log in, grab a drink from the fridge, and have a chat about life, not about work. This allows us to feel a sense of normality, a break from work, and promote social interaction, just in a different way than BC. The image in this post is from our first virtual pub . Remember, this current situation is only temporary, so lets use this time to learn from this crisis, and hopefully become better human beings. We are all in this together. Stay safe. Stay connected. The BO Team
