25.01.2022 Allow yourself time to rest Mama. It's ok to take half an hour with your legs up the wall, or longer, if that's what you need. You don't even need an excuse. Thanks @motherly & @peacefulmindpeacefullife for sharing this message. All people everywhere need to be reminded of this.

23.01.2022 Introducing Fiona Southwell, one of our Bliss Baby Yoga graduates who runs Fiona Southwell Coaching and teaches prenatal yoga, feminine yoga and yoga for fertility group classes. "I found women were experiencing burn-out and living in such a place of overwhelm, disconnection and menstrual issues as their normal. Having experienced various issues myself from menstrual imbalances and infertility I began to explore, more holistic approaches. I found that our relationship with our womb space had a lot of wisdom to give and also heal." To read more about Fiona's journey in coaching, yoga teaching and helping women build a relationship with their womb space, read our interview with her below.

22.01.2022 A VERY beautiful video that sure got our oxytocin (and tears) flowing today. As yoga teachers we have such a special role to play in supporting women during pregnancy and their journey toward birth. Prenatal yoga is a key part of birth preparation and can help women feel more in control in a climate where everything feels so unknown right now.

20.01.2022 Such a great post by Oscar Serrallach from his book "The Postnatal Depletion Cure".

20.01.2022 This is just beautiful - Sound On!

19.01.2022 It's not been easy in these current times to teach styles of yoga that are 'prop heavy'. However it possible to offer students a nourishing, soothing Restorative Yoga class with out the use of multiple studio props. Our very own Op's Manager and Restorative and Accessible Yoga Teacher Robyn Bell shares some tips on how it can be done!

19.01.2022 We love this artwork by Anna Brones - so very true! It can sometimes take years for us to come around to how beneficial resting practices such as Restorative Yoga can be to our bodies and minds. It is so deeply ingrained in us from an early age that we must be "doing" and "achieving" and that resting is not something we need to make time for. Thankfully the tide is turning and society is starting to honour the value of rest for the both the body and mind.... You can explore this practice of resting more deeply and also learn to offer it to your yoga students via our Restorative Yoga Teacher Training Modules, Levels 1 & now Level 2! https://www.blissbabyyoga.com/online-restorative-ytt-level/

18.01.2022 Do you remember the women that supported you in birth? Or if you are a doula or midwife, all those that you supported? Even as a prenatal yoga teacher, our relationship with each woman who comes to our class is so very special. Although we may not over the years always remember every woman, we hope that they remember us well as having supported their journey through their pregnancy.

17.01.2022 THE FEMALE PELVIS Did you know the female pelvis is designed to carry the weight of both mama and baby. It is the bony cradle that holds and rocks the baby whilst they develop in the womb. It is surrounded by soft tissue that pads and cradles like a nest for the baby. The soft tissue also helps with the rotation of the baby's head as it descends through the pubic outlet during birth.... To dive deeper into the female pelvis and its function in pregnancy, check out our Anatomy and Physiology Module! See our website for more details. Image source unknown, please tag if known.

17.01.2022 OM can be so powerful in calming babies and children. It's not just the sound but the vibration of an Om moves through our bodies to our babies. Om vibrates through every living thing in this universe. No wonder it's calmed this baby and will calm a household of toddlers to tweens if you need it to!

17.01.2022 Inspiring Mama! While not quite one of our Bliss Baby Yoga prenatal poses (and we're not suggesting you include it in your classes) if you've personally got an established practice (and no SPD), why not?! Image harpererika7

15.01.2022 Its Father's Day this weekend in Australia and New Zealand, but wherever you are in the world, today is an opportunity to celebrate all who have nurtured, inspired, supported, and helped us become the people we are today - including family, friends and chosen family. At @blissbabyyoga we honour, support and recognise that there are many different types of families. We support the rights of all people regardless of gender, age, sex or ethnicity, and especia...lly through the life transitions of pregnancy, birth, parenthood and beyond. This weekend in particular, we recognise and say THANK YOU to all the amazing Dads out there. To the Dad who gets up early on a Sunday so their partner can have a sleep in, thank you. To the Dad who sleeps on the sofa to make space for the child who wants their primary caregiver all night long, thank you. To the Dads who are the primary caregiver, thank you. To the Dad who loves their partner's kids as if they were their own, thank you. To the Dad who reads the same story for the 20th time, thank you. To the Dad who goes out late at night to make sure the kids have a safe ride home, thank you. To the Mum who is also a Dad, thank you. To the Dad who is also a Mum, thank you. To the two-Dad parenting teams, thank you. If you'd like to share why you are thankful for a Dad or caregiver in your life, please tell us in the comments below See more

15.01.2022 Beautiful story of a VBAC for his very special mama gorilla. who had a baby through emergency caesarean last year. For this pregnancy, they just simply stood by and just observed that she was comfortable and nothing was worrisome. On a Wednesday morning they walked in to find she had given birth with only the babys father near her.... The power of uninterrupted birth

15.01.2022 In the third trimester our bodies change significantly.... feeling much heavier, rounder and often more uncomfortable. As a result our yoga practice also changes and the closer we are to giving birth, the more we are looking for the tools that will support us through that passage. As prenatal yoga teachers we have so much we can offer at this stage in pregnancy, just as our Bliss Baby Yoga Marketing Guru, prenatal yoga teacher and mother of three, Beth Ivy Buxton shares here.

14.01.2022 Did you know that the tubes from the uterus that receive the egg after it pops out of the ovary are NOT attached to the ovary. Rather, they caress the ovary gently, with their sea anemone like fringey finger tips (detail not visible in this image) causing waves in the fluid of our pelvis. These little "fingertips" called fimbria (Latin for fringe) become engorged with blood to do their come hither dance ONLY when we are in our fertile phase. You most likely have been taught ...that these fringed trumpet tubes are called Fallopian Tubes (after a priest and anatomist named Gabriele Falloppio!) If you take a feminine approach to your body, you might refer to them as egg tubes" especially if you would like to use literal functional terms to describe our anatomy. Another name for these tubes is Salpinges , which is an ancient Greek trumpet-like instrument. Thankyou to @honouringmotherhood for sharing this image and the inspo for this post.

11.01.2022 Children are not adults-in-the-making; they are not clay to be moulded. They are children, and that is that. Our task is to wonder at them, to learn about ourselves through our relationships with them. It is also important to remind ourselves that children are not themthey are us. We have felt what they feel, yearned for what they yearn forand if we are honest with ourselves we still do.... - Robin Grille (Author of Parenting for a Peaceful World)

10.01.2022 Who "caught" your baby when they were born? Your partner, the midwife, the obstetrician or maybe you? It's something that I had never thought about when I had my babies many moons ago. Although I had beautiful home births in water, I never thought about trying to catch my baby myself or even having my partner do it.... It can be an incredibly powerful experience if you have the opportunity to be the first one to lay hands on your baby as they emerge. It may be something you'd like to discuss with your partner, maybe they would like to do it, and perhaps to include in your birth preferences should your birth allow for this. xx Nadine (BBY Co-Director) Reimagining an older piece entitled Love at First Catch image of @shelbystoryphotography captured by Chelsea Bootsman #birthart #motherartist #homebirth #waterbirth #doulaartist #pregnancyart

09.01.2022 This week has been Birth Trauma Awareness Week. As yoga teachers, it's not unusual to have mums come to class following what may have been a traumatic first (or subsequent) birth. They may be carrying physical or emotional trauma, or both. These mums require extra sensitivity and care. ... While it's not within our scope to heal their birth (suggesting they debrief with a counsellor who specialises in this can be a good idea - Kimberley Lip-Leed has some beautiful offerings) we can, as prenatal yoga teachers, help them feel supported, nurtured and re-establish a positive relationship with their body.

09.01.2022 To all the wonderful beings that have been a part of our Bliss Baby Yoga Community this year - we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 07.01.2022 VERNIX CASEOSA.... the most nourishing body butter of all! Vernix is a thick creamy waxy substance that covers the body of the newborn (reminds me of cocoa butter!). It's seen more in babies born a couple of weeks prior to the 'due date' as it reduces towards the end of pregnancy. It is made up of water, fats and proteins. The vernix protects and nourishes the baby's soft skin, has antimicrobial properties and acts as a barrier in the uterus to stop the amniotic fluid macerat...ing the skin in the womb. Can you imagine how your skin would look after 9 months in the bath! Vernix is thought to help with an easier transition through the birth canal and it thought to aid temperature regulation at birth. When a baby is born, the newborn skin undergoes a number of changes and adaptions to the outside world in terms of PH and hydration. Vernix helps to regulate these changes so it's worthwhile not bathing baby too soon. Think of vernix as a moisturiser and rub it in rather than wipe it off! It is recommended by WHO to wait at least 24 hours before bathing a newborn (I would even say 2/3 days) as it has its benefits including reduced risk of infection, better temperature regulation, more skin to skin time leading to better breastfeeding outcomes and blood sugar regulation. If your baby has a little dried blood in their hair and it bothers you, you can always wipe the hair gently with a cloth and warm water. 06.01.2022 We wonder whether all that time bouncing on the donkey helped baby Jesus move deeper down into the pelvis and into the optimal position for birth? Along with being in a protected, dark and nurturing environment to birth without interruptions ... it's no wonder Mary didn't need the medical team ;)

05.01.2022 Thank you to Spirit Y Sol for this beautiful post with special love to those of you in lockdown Have mercy on the mamas For we are carrying it all, and then some. Were schooling and working and praying and worrying. Juggling careers and calendars and dishes and deadlines and math facts and marriages and mental health.... Were rising with the sun, trying our best to beat the day Hoping to squeeze in just one more task So maybe tomorrow well have room to breathe . Were filling all the roles and bending backwards, trying not to break with the weight of it all . Have mercy on the mamas Because were tired to the bone, touched out, and torn to pieces scraping pennies, scrapping plans, and starting from scratch trying to find our way through the unknown on a road thats treacherous and tricky on even the brightest of days . Were making heart breaking decisions Weighing risks Wondering how to keep our babes happy and engaged and safe and whole. Wondering how the F were going to be full time moms and full time teachers while also working to keep food on the table. And maybe shower once or twice before Christmas. . Were treading water- keeping our eyes on the horizon and clinging to hope, even when theres none in sight. . So tonight, in your prayers, please hold all the mamas in your heart for just a moment. We are strong and well make it, but we need all the grace and mercy we can get. See more

The buffalo said: I will bury it on the Great Plains. The Creator said: They will cut into the skin of the earth and find it even there. 05.01.2022 "It was through tuning into my body and recognising the balance required, that led me to offer Restorative Yoga workshops for mothers. 02.01.2022 Happy New Year!! We hope you're having a joyful, safe holiday season wherever you are. Here's to 2021 shepherding us all through (and beyond!) these challenging Covid-times as ease-fully as possible. A reminder that yoga is always there for you as your personal sanctuary of calm and support. It's certainly been my constant companion for the over 30 years I've been practising. And as we always say here at Bliss Baby Yoga the wonderful thing about a feminine approach to yoga ...is that it will morph and change as we do, and as the times do... Here's a great blog by one of my teachers Eve Grzybowski on how her own yoga practice has changed to accommodate ageing and various health challenges over the 50 years she's been practising. Eve sums it so beautifully when she says: "The good thing about staying with yoga all these years is that those injuries, conditions and ageing have taught me how to adapt. They’ve all been teachers, shaping my approach to yoga, and even my attitude towards life. Yoga is an amazing discipline for helping you get in touch with yourself if you are willing to learn. " I'm off on a little road trip this week for a summer intensive with Eve on her home turf in the mid-north coast. Feeling grateful that I can just jump in the car and get there in a few hours and that, so far, we are not in lockdown here. I wish you a wonderful start to the year, whatever you're doing (or not doing!). May yoga be your constant, loving companion too. Ana xo See more

01.01.2022 Did you know that this week is Black Breastfeeding Week? Why is there a #blackbreastfeedingweek, you ask? The below information has been taken from the @blkbfingweek website: . "Black Breastfeeding Week was created because for over 40 years there has been a gaping racial disparity in breastfeeding rates. The most recent CDC data show that 75% of white women have ever breastfed versus 58.9% of black women. The fact that racial disparity in initiation and even... bigger one for duration has lingered for so long is reason enough to take 7 days to focus on the issue, but here are a few more: 1. The high black infant mortality rate 2. High rates of diet-related disease 3. Lack of diversity in lactation field 4. Unique cultural barriers among black women 5. Desert-Like Conditions in Our Communities" . THAT is why. For more information and to get educated, please check out @blkbfingweek's page and their website. .
