22.01.2022 Life is amazing. And then it’s awful. And then it’s amazing again. And then in between the amazing and the awful it’s ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That’s just living. Heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it’s breathtakingly beautiful. - LR Knost... 20.01.2022 We know that alcohol can have negative consequences on our body, however, it is indisputable that we will have a drink or two (or more) - repeatedly - over the festive season. The holidays are a time for families and friends to come together to celebrate, which always leads to high-calorie drinks and meals, and yes, these are moments to enjoy, however, you can do so without overdoing yourself or going to extremes. WHAT DOES ALCOHOL DO TO YOU? Stops ...your body from burning fat Slows down your metabolism Dehydrates you (the hangover is bigger and makes you want to eat more) Makes you retain fluid Makes you feel hungry It can lead to poor food choices Provides empty calories - it doesn't contain a significant amount of macros, the only thing they contribute is a significant caloric percentage FACT: the body cannot metabolize fat and alcohol at the same time. If you drink too much, you make your body's priority to get the alcohol out of the system and metabolize it. Your body stops burning fat as it normally does and loses the ability to reserve carbs as glycogen efficiently. Consequently, what you eat is more likely to accumulate as fat, and therefore your metabolism slows down. Whether or not you will gain weight from alcohol depends on what you drink, how much you drink, how often you drink, what you eat when you drink, and your unique body and lifestyle. To enjoy yourself without going overboard, choose healthier drink options, such as: Champagne 100 to 120 cal per glass, Prosecco 80 cal, Wine 80-120 cal, Vodka 100 cal, Tequila 100 cal, Light beer 100 cal, Sparkling Wine 120 cal, Gin tonic & Martini 160-170 cal, Bloody Mary 123 cal, Cider 50 cal. Although alcohol is not one of the best things you can give to your body, if you consume it in low doses and sporadically its effects are quickly reversible. So, know your limits, don't skip your workout, hydrate, and remember it's all about balance. See more

04.01.2022 Post-holiday guilt? Negative self-talk, shame, and regret over how much you indulged over the holidays will get you nowhere. Instead, cherish the times you spent with your family and friends, embrace it, love it, soak up every single second and every delicious and happy food of it! Now, how do you kick back into your routine without starving, depriving, skipping meals or doing an extreme crazy detox? Here are a few tips to reebot the hea...lthy way and get you in the mindset to get back on track. 1. Take a deep breath, clear all the negative thoughts from your head and focus fully on the present moment 2. Drink lots of water, you are probably retaining lots of fluids 3. Take a break from alcohol 4. Try to fast 12 hours between dinner and breakfast to allow your body to utilize more fat for fuel = burn more fat 5. Reduce the intake of salt, sugar and refined flour as by now your system is overloaded with these 6. Snack smart 7. Avoid processed foods 8. Change your dinner to lighter meals 9. Include protein in every meal 10. Try to sip on 2 cups of green tea through the day 11. Go back to your workout routine; include at least 45 minutes of exercise 6 days a week 12. Get at least 7/8 hours of sleep 13. Cook and eat at home; the food you prepare will always be the healthiest option 14. Practice portion control and mindful eating 15. Eat your greens, whether raw, cooked or in a smootie 16. Write down your goals and make them SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Bound) 17.
