18.01.2022 When it comes to blow off valve locations youll often hear two conflicting theories. One is that the BOV should be mounted as close to the throttle body as pos...sible as this is where air will begin backing up when the throttle is closed and hence this is where the pressure should be released. The other theory is that the BOV should be located closer to the turbo and before the intercooler since its the turbo that were trying to protect. An advantage of this location is that the intercooler doesnt need to cool hot air that is just going to be dumped by a post-I/C BOV when it opens, and this puts less heat stress into the intercooler core. When considering these conflicting options its worth seeing where OE manufacturers place their BOVs and it seems they are just as conflicted. Youll see a pretty good mix of the BOV being placed post intercooler near the throttle body (Subaru WRX and STI for just one example), while in some of the newer generation turbos such as the EFR series from BorgWarner Performance Aftermarket the BOV is incorporated right inside the compressor cover. So which is right and which is wrong? In our experience it isnt as critical as many make out. Often there are other factors that drive the decision such as where in a cramped engine bay you can find room to fit the valve in the first place. This is particularly important if youre using a plumb-back valve where the return needs to be plumbed to the turbo inlet pipe. Want to learn how to tune a boosted EFI engine? 05.01.2022 It was good to get the car out again today on Billy Geddes test track. We have found a few things we need to change - primarily we need a diff gear change or a ...1st and second gear ratio change . At the moment we are struggling to get the car moving out or berms and launching it off the line - once its moving and above 50ks and hour it pulls like a freight train . We have also been fiddling around with spring rates with our shock tuner and found we need some changes in this department aswell. Developing a prototype vehicle is hard work but we will keep pushing on and trying to get it as good as we can for racing next year. Thanks again Billy for the help and advice today and to all my crew for the mega hours they have been putting in lately to get this car ready for a test drive See more
