25.01.2022 Covid-19 in 2020 is something that children and adults will remember for the rest of their lives. May we support our children to make sense, find growth and develop resilience in the midst of this chaos.

23.01.2022 With great disappointment, I would like to let you know that Blossom Care Psychology is no longer going to start the practice at Cannington due to unforeseen circumstances. Unfortunately, it is harder to get a council approval than previously expected. The good news is, I will join Three Waters Psychology Clinic to provide face-to-face sessions starting 18th May 2020. Blossom Care Psychology will continue to provide Telehealth sessions as needed and possibly creating more o...nline content in future. :) Thank you for your support!

22.01.2022 Too often, Specific Learning Disorder (SLIs) such as Dyslexia and Dysgraphia or Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) might be the underlying reasons for a childs difficulties at school. This may be contributing to a childs anxiety and depression or school refusal. Poh is an experienced Educational and Developmental Psychologist with 12 years of experience. As a new practice, Blossom Care Psychology currently welcomes new referrals and happy to travel to school... to complete assessments. We dont have any waitlist at the moment. Please contact us at [email protected] or 9356 5663 if you have any questions.

21.01.2022 Blossom Care Psychology is currently practicing at Three Waters Psychology Clinic in the meantime while the actual location at Cannington is undergoing council approval and renovation. When you visit us or attend an appointment, please note that we are upstairs next to F45 training at Leeming.

20.01.2022 #Repost @drbeckyathome I know something about the group of parents here: we are all trying to do the best for our kids. Here's something else I know:... we have hard moments when we just can't hold it all together. If you've emotionally lost it on your child, here's the one thing that means: you're human. You're part of a club that includes every single parent I know, including me. Welcome. Stay. Let's connect & hang out & learn together. Ok, so what do we do after we've lost it? Well, we don’t start with the words on the post. We have to repair with ourselves before we can repair with our children. Follow the steps below: 1. Place your feet on the floor & your hand on your heart. Pause. This position is a perfect antidote to the way your body & mind are likely spinning out of control. We have to ground ourselves first. This position can help you re-find yourself. 2. Take 5 deep breaths, deep into your belly & then slowly out. You're not trying to achieve anything here, you're just bringing your attention back to this moment. Notice any self blame and greet it ("Hi self-blame voice! Yes, you do tend to pile on to my most challenging moments. I could have predicted you would pop up. Hello!"). 3. Tell yourself these words: "I'm here. I'm a good parent who had a hard time.I'm a good person. Nothing about me has changed." Repeat a few times until you feel a bit more grounded & until something in your body has released a bit. Now... & only now... find your child. Use the words in this post or use your own. Key elements of a repair are an apology, telling a story to help your child understand what happened, explicitly stating that your behavior isn't caused by or the fault of your child, sharing your dedication to change, & asserting your child's goodness and your love. And more important than these words are the non-verbal elements of the repair, as a child "hears" this before he can even process your language. This is why your internal repair is so critical - it will allow you to soften within yourself and then you can approach your child in this same way. What questions or follow-up do you have here? How can I support you and how can we support each other ?

20.01.2022 In line with government's recommendations, I am now available on Telehealth to continue seeing clients during this time to fulfil the social responsibility of physical distancing, at the same time continue to support clients during this difficult time. Collectively, we are experiencing grief and loss. Loss of our familiar routine and readjusting to the new normal. Seeking help is a form of strength. It is showing up. It's a good course of action to look after yourself. Worr...ied that Telehealth might not be the same as face-to-face? Guess what? Kids, teens and adults that I have done Telehealth with said that it is just like face-to-face! If you have any questions or concerns about Telehealth, please do not hesitate to contact me at 9356 5663 or [email protected] Please enquire or book a session via the 'book now' button if you are interested. Bulk-billing options may be available. Please see a GP to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan. Photo by Artem Beliaikin from Pexels

19.01.2022 Thanks Dr Leech for the opportunities to talk about how we can support kids and parents during this tricky time. I am truly honoured! :) As we adjust to the 'new normal', here are some tips and strategies to support our children during lockdown, instill "calmness" in difficult times and returning to schools. If your child presents with adjustment difficulties, signs of distress and anxiety, do not hesitate to seek help. We can work through this together.

17.01.2022 Check out this 5 minute video for 4 to 11 year old kids about coping with worries about the Coronavirus! Thanks Calm Kid Central for their generous sharing. https://www.calmkidcentral.com/covid-19/

17.01.2022 And through the rain, you see rainbow. You see the soft glow of the sun. You see your pain. You see that behind that pain, there is you who love and care... You see that you are stronger than your feelings. You see that you are bigger than your feelings. And that you can hold your feelings gently rather than hating yourself for having those feelings.

15.01.2022 I like how this infographic sums up my passion at work - the wellbeing of individuals across all ages. "Educational and Developmental Psychologists are concerned with optimising the learning, development, and wellbeing of individuals across the lifespan. They receive specialised training in the identification, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health, developmental disability, behaviour and learning issues affecting critical periods of development."

13.01.2022 Have a listen to this podcast that I recorded recently about understanding childs reaction to the pandemic. More to come in the next episode.

13.01.2022 Autism awareness day... A dear friend of mine shared with me this amazing video. Individuals with ASD has amazing abilities and temperament. Perhaps they are so sensitive and gentle that other peoples emotions or their own emotions overwhelm them so much. I dont want my friends to be sad, ... I just want others to treat me with decent amount of respect. Let their voices be heard near and far. The world is a better place, because of peoples neurodiversity. We are different but we are the same after all. We are amazing humans with the same needs for care and connection after all. I am thinking of all of you that I have met in the past, those that I am currently working with and the awesome people that I will be working with in future. Be strong and stay safe!

10.01.2022 R U Ok day - special Mandarin edition Today is R U OK day, a day for raising awareness about mental health and checking in with each other to start conversation that could save lives. 09.01.2022 Oh this is a great video! Watch this! A letter to yourself is a therapeutic tool that we sometimes use in the therapy. What would your letter say? How would you say it to yourself? Can you say it in a warm and compassionate tone of voice? Thanks Hamish!

07.01.2022 Happy #autisticprideday from Yellow Ladybugs! What are you proud of? We would love to hear. Autistic pride points out that autistic people have always been an i...mportant part of human culture. Being autistic is a form of neurodiversity. As with all forms of neurodiversity, most of the challenges autistic people face come from other people's attitudes about autism and a lack of supports and accommodations (ableism), rather than being essential to the autistic condition". 06.01.2022 Sharing the gratitude, presence and being with are the most powerful things that we can do for our loved ones during this difficult time. Thanks Jess Hall and Mardou for sharing!

06.01.2022 Imagine if we could make our response to this crisis our finest hour. Imagine if a year or two from now we looked back on this and told the stories of how we came together as a team in our community, in our state, in our nation and across the world. Your contribution to the finest hour may seem small, invisible, inconsequentialbut every small act of not doing what you were going to do, and doing an act of kindness or support will add up exponentially. These acts can and will save lives. The Apollo 13 crew made it their finest hour by letting go of the word I and embracing the word we. And thats the task required of us. It can only be our finest hour if we work together. You are all on the team. And we need all of you to shine in whatever way you can. Thanks Dr. Gretchen Schmelzer via Trauma Informed Parent.

06.01.2022 Is your mind similar to mine during this time when Covid-19 is spreading around the world? I dont know about you but my screen time chart shot up with me spending more time reading the news all about Covid-19 and following up on the statistics. Where? When? What? How? Why? My mind was so busy working hard to stay up-to-date with the news, Just in case, What if the pandemic crisis is declared? What can I do to prepare for the worst? What can I do to protect my kids? ...Continue reading
