20.01.2022 The great thing about the NDIS and Specialist Disability Accommodation is that you get to decide exactly how you want to live. Our job is to simply listen and then build the home you want, with the customisations you request. #NDIS #SDA #disability #BlueCHP #GuideYouHome

17.01.2022 Hallways. When planning #SDA this can be an area that requires attention to detail, they need to be wide enough to not only travel up and down the hallway but (what can be missed) wide enough to allow someone to easily turn into doorways, planning for enough clearance when the door is open. This can include planning for medical devices/assistive technology to be moved between rooms if that is required as part of the individuals needs, or future needs. Some 'mobile' devices ...may have wheels but can be large and hard to manouevre. Plan your hallway for the ability to move these devices to different rooms including turning into doorways. Including room for the one or two people maneouvring the device. Hallways also allow for good line of sight, and can allow for natural light to flow through the home with good planning. Getting hallways wrong can make day-to-day life inconvenient, getting them right can make a home easy to navigate, bright, and welcoming. #disability #sda #disabilityliving #guideyouhome #bluechp

13.01.2022 A helpful note, if you're building #SDA put some thought into the garden. Some plants, like lillies, are a hazard to pets. If you plant near a window, will it grow to block the views? Keep in mind whether it would be a benefit to choose hardy, low maintenance options.

13.01.2022 Are you attending SDA Insight? Catch Charles discussing Making SDA a Success at 9am. Free registration: www.sda.archealth.com.au

12.01.2022 Backyard space in #SDA. Backyards are often a place where someone goes to enjoy being outside, to entertain, pot around in the garden and more. Look for flat plots of land, a level area that can be made accessible, and easy to maintain garden beds. #sda #ndis #bluechp

12.01.2022 This is one of our new completed homes, in Condell Park. To dispel one myth about #SDA, they dont look odd or institutional. They are modern homes, with perhaps a few additions, like a ramp. #NDIS #BlueCHP #disability #guideyouhome

11.01.2022 When looking at SDA, the bathroom often has a lot of customisations, make sure you talk with your team to assess options. In this image you can see an additional backrest, railings, also the toilet design. #sda #disability #ndis #bluechp #guideyouhome

10.01.2022 SDA Insight is just around the corner. If you havent registered, do it now, its free to register -https://sda.archealth.com.au/ If you are navigating SDA and are interested in how to make it a success, catch our CEO Charles Northcote at 9am in room 3. #sda #ndis #sdainsight #specialistdisabilityaccommodation

10.01.2022 In an SDA home, a lot of customisations occur in the bathroom, so this space needs to be carefully planned. Devices like hoists can require extra space, including enough room for carers and the individual to safely use the devices and navigate the room. #NDIS #SDA #GuideYouHome

09.01.2022 What great news! Strokes touch so many people's lives. At BlueCHP our colleagues have experienced what it means for a family member to suddenly become disabled, from roles to change from wife/daughter/son to carer. In a moment the future of the family has changed, family celebrations can change, suddenly a family has to navigate NDIS, organising carers, and now when planning gatherings you find that many options are inaccessible. It's great news to hear there is new technology becoming available to help patients get back the mobility they may have lost.

09.01.2022 A look into SDA - Living rooms can feel spacious and cozy. The rooms should allow for adequate space for furniture and to navigate around living spaces. #sda #specialistdisabilityaccommodation #ndis #bluechp #guideyouhome

07.01.2022 Such a great idea from an Aussie mum, Natalie Bell first made these for her daughters safety, so first responders could quickly know about her hearing loss and cochlear implant. Its always great to see innovation coming from the community. https://personalisedbynat.com/products/seat-belt-covers

07.01.2022 When building SDA you may find creating larger combined spaces (living and dinning) and creating an easy flow between outdoor and indoor entertainment spaces creates a welcoming home, maximises space, whilst fulfilling design requirements.

07.01.2022 Wed love to see every person in a wheelchair using an adapted kitchen. This video is a great example of all the workarounds a wheelchair user has to adopt to be able to make a simple dinner in a kitchen made with only the able-bodied in mind. https://youtu.be/Zt_gBayqTuY

06.01.2022 Looking back at an inspiring story from January. After over two decades unable to play the piano, master pianist, Joao Carlos Martins, is able to play the piano again using custom made bionic gloves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioqGuAdvdKw

04.01.2022 When designing SDA, the whole home should be accessible, including routes around the home - in this case from the garage to the backyard. #sda #specialistdisabilityaccommodation #NDIS #blueCHP #guideyouhome
